    What was once thought to be a dying segment, GM pumps some much needed life into the full-size truck based SUV market with their redesigned 2015 GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe twins. Based on the impressive new Silverado/Sierra platform, these new trucks offer a presence that simply cannot be matched by smaller crossovers.

    It amazes me how many people have commented on how they can't understand why someone would want one of these "gigantic", "massive" or "huge" vehicles.... Do you have kids? Do you travel? Do you go anywhere? For those of us who answer yes to any or all of these questions, there is nothing better out there for family travel than a full-sized SUV. We own a Grand Caravan right now and are hoping to buy an XL model in the near future. When we travel with our 4 kids, we pack the Grand Caravan out. We also live in the mid-west and get lots of bad weather & snow in the winter time. I like having the 4 wheel drive available to me. I also like the safety of knowing that I am in one of the biggest vehicles on the road. If you want to drive a Prius or a Smart Car, go for it! We choose to drive larger vehicles. It is what it is.

      I agree. We have 4 kids. We test drove it. We are getting the Lincoln Navigator after driving the Yukons and Tahoes. Visually I thought the Yukon and Tahoe was nice inside and out. Rear seat is not good for bigger kids or adults in the Yukon or Tahoe where the Navigator definitely does. The floor height is cramped with the solid rear axle underneath in the Yukon and Tahoe, where in the Navigator your feet are not cramped because the Navigator has rear independent suspension. The Yukon and Tahoe doesn't have independent rear suspension so when you drive you notice that the vehicle doesn't have as good of a ride as the Navigator. Steering the Yukon and Tahoe took way more work but I did like the thick steering wheel where the Navigator steered effortlessly. Gas pedal on the Small V8 is so restricted to try and get good gas mileage. The 6.2 was well powered and didn't have the same lethargic gas pedal but on the Lincoln Navigator the throttle response was not just amazing but powerful across a larger power-band. I don't think the 6.2 would win zero to 60 nor do I think the 6.2 could out pull a full trailer as well.

      I'm confused. What does a mini van have to do with my test drive review for the large SUV's available for 2015? Are you saying mini vans are good or bad? Are you saying Full Size SUV's are unsafe?

    • @rhombus20
      @rhombus20 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      ***** You sure do make a lot of assumptions about me. Just because I chose not to buy an Odyssey, I am ignorant and haven't done research? You have no idea what kind of research I have done. You have no idea what kind of driver I am or that I have been around large vehicles my entire life since I come from a larger family myself. I'm not sure what my owning of a Grand Caravan has to do with this discussion. I would say the same thing if I owned an Odyssey or any other mini-van or any other mid-size or smaller SUV. I gave my opinion based on my experience of owning and driving different larger vehicles including Expeditions, Tahoes, Suburbans, 15 passenger vans etc. As I said in my original post, you are free to drive whatever vehicle you choose. If the Odyssey is your cup of tea, go for it! For the driving that we do and in my experience, I will take my Yukon XL Denali any day over most any other vehicle on the market for my family.

      @SpeedyTase 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'd rather have an SUV than a mini-van. We still haul our kids around: one goes to college and needs the space for transporting physics books and art projects. The other child likes room to lay down safely for a nap to and from middle school! The once a month trip to Costco is a must for cargo space. But we're probably going to go for the Escalade.

    • @YoMoore19
      @YoMoore19 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's still fucking huge. What about a Q7? Or a GL? Or a X5? Or an Escalade? Those are big-ass cars. I mean you can easely fit 3 fathers of mine in the back of any of that, and my father has like 1.7 and 100 kilos. Not to mention it's ugly( the car, not my father).
      Offtopic: why do people make more than 2 kids? Seriously, you have a satisfaction in raising kids? I don't want to be an ass or something, but we're 7.4 billion and not showing signs of decreasing.

    I have to say that the Yukon is better than the Cadillac.. It has the same features engine transmission etc. And the interior is not complicated like the Escalade.. The escalade uses a touch sensitive center console that is overly complicated and requires atleast 2-3 presses on some buttons for it to work.. I test drove all the new GM SUV's (Tahoe LTZ, Yukon Denali, Escalade) and the Yukon Denali is the one that stuck out as the best..

    If you were a full-size man, this wouldn't seem like such a gigantic vehicle. I'm so sick of people saying these vehicles are "dinosaurs". It's stupid to say that -- my city is littered with full-size truck based SUVs.
    And for everyone griping about how you can get a Merc GL450 for the price of a Denali, do me a favor and price out a GL450 with all the options on a $73,000 4x4 Denali and let me know how much more it will cost.
    And yes, I have a 2015 Yukon Denali 4x4 on order. I hunt, fish, farm, play guitar in a band with a ton of gear, camp, tow boats and trailors loaded with tractors, and need something I can load my family and all of our beach gear in for vacations. Find me a vehicle that fits me better than this one.

      i agree
      im a 6 foot 4
      i can fit in my gti fine, but im still looking for something big as well as for my family
      and a nice suv is a fine choice
      plus the gl450 doesn't have hauling power nor the hp for the money
      as you said "all the options"
      the yukon denali gives you 420hp v8 (same in the escalade), over 8000lb towing capacity and more cargo room with the xl trim
      people complaining about prices, but hey go on ebay and you'll see prices dropping to around 65k or less for these suvs

    They may be bug, but they dont offer as much useable space and other cars
    Just google Toyota Voxy, Nissan Serena and Toyota Alphard.
    They have WAAAY more useable space, have hybrid versions, 4wd and except for the Alphard, they cost less than 40 grand fully loaded

      *****
      I always check gasbuddy.com and use the Trip Cost Calculator to see how much it actually would cost to run the cars I am comparing to the places I usually drive. It gives you how much gas in dollars you would be using based on prices in the area you are in. I have found that because this car uses regular fuel it compares really well with the Touareg Diesel and other vehicles I match against this. That gives you a better idea about how much it will actually cost you. I have found that it compares well with cars that require premium or diesel due to the cost of those fuels so it is a good idea to not just take the mileage and fuel type into the equation.

      Everything nowadays is ridiculously expensive. A loaded up Camry is about 40k now. New cars have endless tech and features now. I went to the DC Auto Show this afternoon and test drove a loaded 18' Kia Stinger TT6 that was really nice. We're living in an era where a Kia (the one I tested) is $50 GRAND!!! This Denali looks amazing and the interior is amazing, on par with the escalade and its other competitors. The only issue with this truck is the live rear axle. If this truck only had the independent rear it would have a much more comfortable and more usable third row seat without having to go for the XL.The Durango and GL both have very comfortable third row seats. This vehicle is bigger than both so it should be able to offer a full size third row. For me the third row is not something I would be using a lot but just being able to have a somewhat comfortable third row would be nice. Anyways this truck is still awesome.

      My only complaint is the Denali not having the surround view 360 camera like the 2015.5 and up Escalade. The 8-speed IS available with the Denali (2015.5) for some reason GM released the early versions with the older trans. The 8-speed makes for way better performance times. The XL is the one I'm getting, the 3rd row is way more spacious and it gets rid of that huge hump from the live axle (not as obvious). I can't wait to get my Onyx Black XL Denali!

    I question whether this Yukon really competes with the Mercedes GL, the Range Rover, or other offerings, such as the Audi Q7... Sure it has a fairly luxurious interior, and a respectable engine, but the features, materials, and attention to detail really aren't all that competitive with vehicles of the "traditional" luxury brands. The price is in line with the other brands, but the GMC Yukon as a whole is - debatably - not.

    Well I definitely like the look of the Yukon I don’t know if I’d be willing to pay the extra five or 6000 over the Tahoe for what is basically an exact duplicate other than the nice looking grill

    i did enjoy haha...i will buy the GMC Arcadia Denali 2014 for sure. i really do not like Japanese cars..soo plain. i feel when people buy any other brand, they are only buying a body style with a A/C unit. American cars are more 'mature' with their bold looks, great packed technology, and more bang for your buck...i will never buy a Japanese brand ever again...haha...seriously...not worth the money, time, or the sissy design. people that buy a camry are the same people that buy iphones. they know there is something way better than what they have, but they are denial and wont look at reality that there is more to what others are offering. they want to live in a plain life, with ordinary things, and waste money on crap that is worthless at the end..go GMC!! you rock!

    with every other luxury SUV you listed, the only one i would take over this is the range rover. range rover is simply still a level above this and perhaps the escalade as well, then again the range rover is meant more for sport then luxury.

    • @coureurdebois
      @coureurdebois 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gavin Irvine luxury is refinement, high quality, uniqueness, passion, and above all comfort in all driving scenarios.
      to me this is luxury and im not "american" it is brash, over sized, and isolation style luxury that reminds me of a G class wagon.
      now i don't think this is better than a G class wagon. but it gives the same impression without the over the top styling that the G class has.
      now if you read my comment i did say range rover still feels like a class above this and would be a SUV i would take over any other SUV/truck.
      try not to be closed minded, remember don't judge based on ones country, race, or place of origin. wrather you're from USA, luxembourg, germany, japan We are all car enthusiast who love automobiles of all shapes and sizes :)

      Price: The brand offers products which belong to the most expensive products of their category.
      Quality: The brand offers everlasting top-of-the-line products, which won't be disposed of even after long utilization or defect, but rather repaired and which often even gain in value over time.
      Aesthetics: The brand behaves like a chic and vain dandy, who would never leave the house in less than perfect style. Whenever and wherever the brand is seen, it embodies a world of beauty and elegance.
      Rarity: In contrast to mass-market brands, the brand needs to limit its production and tries not to disclose its (high) sales numbers. The brand plays hard to get and is not available at all times or places.
      Extraordinariness: The brand has a mind and style of its own and its products offer a "kick" and surprise with the "expected unexpected."
      Symbolism: The brand stands for "the best from the best for the best"; its charisma fills the room, and regardless of whether it is of a conspicuous or understated nature, deep inside, it is swollen with pride. clearly this is cut and paste

    • @coureurdebois
      @coureurdebois 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gavin Irvine cut and paste perhaps, but it still manages to have a more premium feel, look, and materials than any ford, chrysler, fiat, chevy, opel, renault, toyota, nissan, honda, mazda, infiniti, acura, ect.
      my point being is if this is not some definition of luxury then what is? you listed some very good definitions, of which many point to this being luxury... but you claim its not?
      no its not on the level of range rover, mercedes, or BMW. but it is very close and better than lexus and audi's (terrible) suv line up.
      i think the badge is getting in the way of your thinking. ;)
