Yeah, when this aired on tv in germany I would be home from middle school past afternoon with my abusive family and these wholesome moments of DBZ were everything I could wish for to relax a little.. I left that pieces of shit family behind me as soon as I graduated and never turned back. I'm a teacher today and Videl and Gohan are still my favorite. Also Piccolo.

Yeah, it definitely seems more so instinctual. He wasn't expecting Trunks to succeed, so when he got grazed, he immediately retaliated like he would in a normal fight. But immediately after, his rational mind returned and he realized that he just punched his child for doing exactly as he asked.
Of course, his pride would never let him admit it was a mistake, especially as it technically is a valuable lesson for Trunks to learn. But the most important part that the video skipped out on is that Vegeta kept his promise. And Trunks was really happy.
It's clearly cuz he got mad. Vegeta has always been jealous of his son trunks.

His love for bulma can be seen as somewhat selfish because he gets something out of it. He finds her hot and they do sexy stuff.
With his son it’s an emotion he’s never really known and it’s so strong it scares him.
I’ll agree that he was mad he got hit. But his retaliation was also instinct. It’s his instinct to get mad and fight back.
But the shock on his face was clear. He did not mean to hit his son. His anger and instinct got the better of him and then his pride and insecurities took over and he blamed trunks for not keeping his guard up to try and relieve his guilt.
He was raised in war. By trunks age he had killed millions of aliens.
Battle never scared him. But love? That feeling of vulnerability when you love a child is almost too much for him.
Unlike Kakarot who was loved by gohan before he killed him. Then he created an amazing found family that all loved him.
Tho it’s funny Kakarot is a worse father by far.

It was a really fun lil detour.
It is impressive videl got a handle of ki control in a matter of days. As for goten; well he is a saiyan and they already naturally have an affinity for Ki control.

Videl is Hercule's Daughter, and while Hercule is fodder to the cast, he is still an elite level Martial Artist among earthlings
So i believe Videl probably has a lot of untapped potential relative to all Earthlings.

The entire mini arc with Videl and Gohan during the Buu saga was honestly my favorite part of the entire series. Events and people years and years beforehand leading to the meeting of this otherwise bizarre pairing, evolving around each other over the saga, with them going from being on very shaky terms to complete and total trust and closeness is just such a wonderfully fascinating and heartwarming thing.
The fact that she could even learn to fly is impressive

I just realized that Videl must've really felt bad by this. In DBZ, she's always shown to be this tough girl with sass but here you see her vulnerable because of those around her. You got Gohan who is an expert martial artist and very good with ki control and you have his little brother who is quite younger than them and is learning quickly as they go while she's left in the dust trying her best to compete
I feel as though she probably, eventually, became less vulnerable when she realized that Gohan and mostly everyone around her were literal aliens that have a keen sense for martial arts.

When you think about it, it’s kind of amazing how fast she was able to learn this. We went through multiple arcs in Dragonball before anyone could fly, and more still before anyone was doing it casually. Videl is just flying whenever she feels like after, what, a week or two?

while that is true you have to remember that back in Dragonball the show was more focused on the martial arts not the powers and the power of flight was a "secret technique" of the crane school that Tien and Chiaotzu were a part of thats why those two were the only ones who could fly....... (-_-) until you get to DBZ where everyone and there grandmother can fly
Early on, flight was basically a secret technique known to the crane school. Once more people learned it, it became easier to teach

I miss when Videl was about that smoke. It'd be awesome if we at least see her training with Gohan and/or Pan whenever DBS wants to start back up again. Seeing as how Pan is on a promotional poster of the new DBS: Superheroes movie possibly hinting at her fighting in it, I hope Videl is seen doing something in it as well because we haven't seen her do anything since the Buu arc after her battle with Spopovich, besides being saiya-woman. The only current female fighter the Z Fighters have is Android 18, so it'd be cool if she became relevant again and also gained more ki mastery.
I think the main issue is that Toriyama has no intention of making humans relevant. Even in super he realized he wrote himself into a corner and neutered so many of the z fighters that he had to inconsistently power boost them for the tournament of power. Then proceeded to forget about them afterwards. Krillin, roshi, tien… they don’t do shit. Don’t get me started on yamcha.
So I feel sad cause videl was so feisty and cool as hell. She had the passion for fighting that gohan lacked and they coulda been an amazing duo. Or even thrived solo. But they were both sidelined. For different reasons. But yeah videl was hard capped because she’s a human anyways.
I’m praying so hard for pan to be relevant. She already has better ki sensing than her father. And has more of a drive to train. I really want pan to have a significant role and not just be a goofy strong kid with no purpose like goten.

Reminds me of learning to fly in my dreams. It was an internal energy that I forced downwards towards my feet. I found that the power got stronger when I brought my arms to my sides and weaker when I lifted my arms away. That technique was raw power though. It didn't have much control. Either the power was on or it was off, like flicking a switch. Probably the worst technique to learn when just learning to fly. So in the first dream of flying all I really did was super jumps. I was too afraid to really commit and soar.
Eventually I learned to also fly by telekinesis, pure brain power. That technique was all about control, but not much power. The exact opposite of the first technique I learned. It was more like floating through the air except I had control of where the flow took me. That of course led me to eventually be able to use both techniques at the same time. Starting with the telekinesis and slowly learning to add my internal energy.
Now I can fly whenever I want in my dreams and with complete control. Except for in those dreams where you are trying to run but your legs feel heavy, flying doesn't work there either and that makes those dreams even more frustrating when you know you can fly.
It is for those dreams, nightmares and dreams you can't control, that I am learning to shut down dreams. If a dream is going bad and I can't stop it then I'll just shut it down. Bring it to blackness, nothingness, start it over, hit the big reset button, start a new dream.
That's so ool hopefully I get a dream when I learn how to fly then I will be flying in most of my dream haha

I highly recommend checking out the Lucid Dreaming Experience TH-cam channel because he talks about a lot what you said, and how you can take your lucid dreaming to the next level. Even with how advanced you are you can get even better at it. Btw if you don’t if you don’t know what a lucid dream is, it is a dream you have where you are aware that you are dreaming. Now for you not only be aware, but have significant control over your dreams as well is extremely powerful, and something a lot of people can’t do.

For everyone saying Super ruined Videl and you wished she hadn't had a baby or still fought.
Her attitude her Feistiness that's her complex not her character. People who don't understand Videl constantly wishes she would fight. But if you look at her character she's always trying to reach Mr.Satan, Hercule's status because he's made a career of lying and taking other people's credit like saying he defeated Cell.
Her complex was always trying to reach that. She finally became happy and wasn't so brat like when she found Gohan the person WHO ACTUALLY defeated Cell and that tore open her complex. She learned from him and found strength because of that. She and He defended the city together as the Saiyamans. If you notice after her Spopovich fight she became MUCH happier and her complex was gone.
Super didn't ruin her character, you guys just don't want to pay attention. Even at the end of Z she'd settled down with Gohan. She was finally happy and able to be strong and confident in herself because of Gohan.
Her Attitude and Feistiness is her complex of living up to her Dad, not her character. That's called character development. Chi Chi and Bulma are Feisty and that's their Character.
Just had to say that because the last thing we should want for these characters is to live some artificial life.

I actually loved this part of the buu saga. Vidal was such a great person for Gohan. Then having that brotherly bonding sess with Goten. God damn i was a teenager when i watched this. In my mid 30s now haha!

The only problem I have with Videl and seemingly everybody else being unaware of Ki is that it's not exactly an ancient forgotten practice or anything. In the timeline, just a few decades ago practically everybody in the World Martial Arts Tournaments had some sort of Ki attack, from Tri-Beams to Solar Flares to Kamehamehas. It shouldn't exactly be a bizarre secret or anything, even if the older tournaments were a bit smaller in scale.
