    To think this was just "a car" back in 1959 and the early 60s...then as time moved it was forgotten and devalued then "wow, remember those" transitioning to something truly revered and valued at 15 to 20 times what it originally sold for.
    It's really phenomenal. Wish I has one just to cruise.

    Beautiful car. The black with red is an awesome combo. My grandparents had one but nowhere near the car that this one is. It was a 4 dr Biscayne, two tone blue with a 6 cyl and 3 on the tree. None the less they were proud of it since it was their first new car. Had the same fins. lol

    That 348 engine is a strong engine too! Back when I was in high school, while I was in motor class, I got to help overhaul one. We put a high lift cam in it. It was in a 60 Chevy. That motor did wonders! The car was awesome too. A lot of fun to work on!

      That 235-6 with Powerglide was common. It had 135 horsepower, and was put in our 59 Parkwood station wagon, . . . and surely not any less "underpowered" than in a Bel Air. It was adequate to pull the car in a sane manner.
      The King of the underpowered cars award goes to the 1979 Ford Granada with an inline 200 cubic inch 6 cylinder : EIGHTY-FIVE horse power.

    WOW! Just beautiful, I have always missed my 59 Impala Sport Coup, and for years I would still have dreams of the one I had. In 1964, I happened to be at an Oldsmobile dealership when a salesman drove by in a 59 Impala and parked it in the back of the used car lot. It was just taken in on a trade and was not prepped yet. I talked to the salesman after he got out of the car, I said I would buy it right then and there. He said I could put $100.00 on it to hold it till it was ready. The Impala was Grecian Gray Metallic with a white side spear and beautiful red and gray interiour. It had the 348 engine, but I did not realise right away that it had the rare, 335 horse engine along with the factory Bog Warner 4-speed. The Impala cost me $ 1,799.00 and that was a lot of money for me at that time. Long story short, the Impala had been raced on the 1/4 mile as I had talked to the original owner about it. He said he ran a best time of 15.3 at 94 mile an hour. I will always love the 59 Chevy's and always regret having to sell mine in 1966, as I had joined the Navy or get drafted. Your Impala is beautiful and wished I had the time to tell some stories about mine. Nothing that is built today excites me like that 59 Impala did back in 1964.

    348, the first chevy big block. Designed as a truck engine for 1958. You could order a '58 Impala with a Muncie 4 speed and Dual 4 bbl carbs on top. Pretty mean in the day. Progressed to be the 409 a few yrs later.

  • @mikemather5
    @mikemather5 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    The 348 block would soon become the 409! It was a truck engine if I remember right, and they came up with the "porcupine heads" for it. Tough motor to beat. My first car was the 65 GTO tri-power. Bought it used in 67. Had the 4.11 rear end, topped out at 85 mph. Micky Thompson made some valve shims for it to take away some of the valve float at red line. That helped a little. Let me break your hearts a little. The sticker was still in the glove box, $2700! Go ahead and cry.

    Power steering, manual brakes, stick shift, black with a red interior, single 4-BBL carburetor, full wheelcovers and whitewalls: Just how I would have ordered it had I been able to buy one of these new. Does it have backup lights? I can't tell from the video. I notice it doesn't have an outside mirror, either. That was another option. I like the single radio antenna, too. My cousin did buy a new 59 Chevy, but it was a 6/stick, Biscayne 2-door sedan, completely stripped. It didn't even have arm rests or a second sun visor on the passenger side! I still loved it and wouldn't mind having one just like it today. It's astonishing what you got for your money back then.

    The solid building quality of this 59' Impala is off the scale, compared to today's cars that are build.
    The '59 Impala is all metal build.
    Nowadays cars are about 80% made out of plastic.

    My dad's first new car, paid $2,500.00 off the show room floor at Bill Jacobs Chevrolet in Joliet, IL. Had a 348 with a 4 barrel rated at 250hp with a three on the tree. Put oversized jets in, 4:10 gears, welded the spider gears for full time posi and ran bias ply cheater slicks with dump pipes and still managed to run a 14 flat in the quarter over at Oswego, US 30 dragstrip.

      In my area Chevrolets were daily drivers...most of them got about as much care as a refrigerator and they looked it in a few short years...then they got sold off or traded in on another one. They like other cars didn't have great rustproofing so most of them simply rusted out before they wore out mechanically and got junked.
