I volunteered to make Thanksgiving dinner this year for the first time…..I now appreciate my Grandma and mother more than ever before. Instant regret 😅. Wish me luck ya’ll.
I love how he does one ingredient at a time & not "rush" throughout the process. Here in the BLACKBELT is how this Chef is exemplifying his decades of " tasty " cuisine simpler than ever , even those who say they can't make it happen (cooking), often works out quite well.😂❤
I agree. How a person puts it together and explains usually determines if I’m going to try the recipe. If the prep work and explanation is disjointed, cut with tangents, or not explained well….I don’t have the time or patience for that.
We watched this video and everything looked so good! My wife completely changed the food that we have on Thanksgiving. The turkey was Awesome! This was the best and juiciest turkey I have ever had, No really, as I was curving the turkey turkey juice was all over my knife. The stuffing was so easy to make and absolutely delicious. No more stovetop stuffing in this house. Thank you so much for your video, these recipes will be handed down thru generations. Again Thank you for sharing your recipes with my family.
#1. This traditional way of doing a turkey is labor intensive and time consuming. Thanks to Alton I figured out a super easy way to prep and roast my turkey without all the work! #2. Very good demonstration LA Times! Thanks for sharing. #3. My turkey comes out tender falling off the bone, super juicy and super flavorful! #4. Everyone is always impress at how I can get my turkey so flavorful and tender. They all want to know. It's now a family secret that I've all shared with only a few people. #5. And it's not labor intensive as the traditional method shown here. Growing up the turkey was always super dry! It made you want to cry! LOL The turkey is suppose to be the best part of Thanksgiving right? So when I became an adult I tried a dozen different methods until I came up with one I thought was perfect. I got rave reviews every Thanksgiving! #6 Then I saw Alton on Food Channel and his unusual prep method for his turkey blew my mind! I just had to try it! And wha-la! I have the best Thanksgiving turkey or for any poultry recipe, for that matter, in the world! Now I'm going to share my top secret with you! Not only is my turkey super flavorful, and juicy but the most important part is not labor intensive! No blood, sweat and tears here. *READ THESE DIRECTIONS ALL THE WAY THROUGH BEFORE FORMING AN OPINION.* THE PERFECT THANKSGIVING AWARD WINNING - NO FUSS TURKEY RECIPE😃🥰😁 (Spend more time with family and not in the kitchen) DAY 1 THE NIGHT BEFORE #1. Let your turkey thaw out completely on the counter overnight in packaging. That's right! And this may seem scary for some of you as they say don't do this. I think that warning is just to scare folks. I've been doing this since the early 2000's now! Why do this? To seasoning the turkey deep on the inside. Possibly Day 3 #2. When completely thawed out remove the packaging, pieces and gravy pack. Trim turkey as desired as he did in this video. Rinse the thawed out turkey under cold water. (Don't skip this step. Turkey need to be be thoroughly rinsed.) No need to pat dry. #3. Get out a large pot the turkey can be immersed in upright. If you don't have one then purchase one. If you don't want to purchase one Alton used and suggested a large bucket you can get at your home improvement center. Make sure you wash it out first. THE NIGHT BEFORE THANKSGIVING DAY #4. Put the turkey in the large pot/bucket and fill the pot with Swanson herb/chicken broth from the box. The can stuff has a metal taste. Get two or 3 boxes to cover turkey completely. Use a chicken herb seasoning blend with no salt and no garlic. (Too much salt will ruin the taste and garlic is strong. No strong herbs.) I only use Italian herb seasoning with no salt and sparingly. #5. Marinate/Soak turkey in broth overnight in the fridge. I think it goes without say but I'm going to say it anyway. Do not leave out! Put in fridge. Marinate in fridge overnight. THANKSGIVING MORNING #6. EARLY Thanksgiving morning take turkey out of broth. Do not rinse off! Place turkey in Reynold's oven bag on rack in roasting pan. Follow directions on using roasting bag. Place turkey in oven. Discard broth. And that's it. I guarantee you your turkey will fall off the bone. No cutting required! You'' have a perfect turkey every time and more guest than you anticipated. The whole neighborhood clamoring for a taste! LOL Enjoy! Now you know my top secret, you are sworn to secrecy! LOL😉
Huh this seems labor intensive to me wow lol , I do a dry brine night before , compound butter her right on up and under and voila with of course seasonings and aromatics inside cavity but you get the jist of what I’m saying is easy in comparison but it sounds wonderfully delicious ❤️
He makes it very simple, no fancy turkey rack, not even an Allclad roasting pan or turkey lifters! Man, thos dripping look awesome! You can’t make a bad gravy with that!

Wouldn't you need a deeper turkey pan, with all that butter and juices? Oh my gosh, looks delicious! Alot of great tips, such as thick onions under turkey, lemons inside. Full preparation of turkey is great 👍 👍👍
Thats what i was thinking! I would have sloshed boiling turkey fat right on to my feet sure shootin'! 😂 It did look delicious, but my head would roll if i changed the family recipes! I think i'll try it with a whole chicken first and see how everyone likes it. Hope you have an awesome Fall! 🧡🙏🕊
Paula is the best!! She's so down to earth. I met her in person on a flight to Savannah, from Southern California. 😂 On the last leg of my flight from California to Savannah, I kept hearing a very distinct and familiar voice. I was certain i knew who it was, because her laugh was undeniable!!😂 I'm an original southen gal myself, born and raised. South knows south!! As I contemplated my assumption, as to who this pleasant southern voice belonged too, I still wasn't certain. As it turned out, when our plane landed, I was eager to see the face to the voice. Undeniable, I was in star struck mode!! The minute we all stood up, to retreive our carry ons above our heads, we both looked at each other at the exact same time. Yes!! She knew!! before my nerves, initiated my question, " are you Paula Dean"? She replied, with the most friendly and gracious " yes mame I am". We walked and talked like old friends, about what a fan I was and about her jewelry line, her youtube presence, and her Resteraunt in Savannah. I wanted to capture the incredible moment with a picture, and Paula in her graciousness, suggested taking a selfie. We took a selfie, and parted ways. My friend and I was in Savannah only for a three day visit, so we didn't get a chance to visit Paula's restaurant. However, we plan to return in the future. Paula is indeed, the "real deal" and still a big deal!! All the best Paula Dean!! Huge fan. Regina Ricard, Bay Point, CA 🌺🌺🌺🌺
This is one of the most enjoyable viewing experiences I’ve had watching someone cook. Kudos to this fine chef for his skills in the kitchen. I will be re-watching this again. Subscribed after seeing this 😊
Great to see the basics from the beginning-just what a newbie needs. :) I don’t trim the skin, I let it melt to make extra gravy. Salt & pepper. Stuff with fresh herbs - parsley sage rosemary thyme. And 1/4 onion. + a stick of butter. That way the dripping are flavored an all I need to do is bring all this dripping and stock to a boil and stir in a slurry of potato starch and cold stock. Super easy. 🍗
We make cornbread dressing its a mixture of half cornbread and half toasted french bread. We use chicken stock. Everything else is the same. I do use more broth so dressing is more moist. Make sure your cornbread doesn’t have sugar. Don’t use Jiffy cornbread mix. Use a cornmeal mix.

ALL THE EXTRA SKIN was used back in the day, to hold the stuffing in the bird, even the neck cavity! We used metal skwers to sew up the cavities. I still do it! We are still alive! 56 years, 78 if you count my mother's turkey.❤

My absolute favorite food for Thanksgiving is the stuffing. I could just eat that and be happy without anything else. Your stuffing recipe is perfect, easy, looks so 👍 good.
I’m team stuffing also. I’ve been known to make a stuffing sandwich with plain white buttered bread, toasted and stuffing in the center 🙈occasionally I’ll spread cranberry sauce on it! Top Chef stuff here!!! Lol 😅
My brother, too! We would double the stuffing and warm up some gravy from the glass jars. That and some cranberry, and he'd forgo all but a turkey leg.
100% and I’m no hater for some stove top lol like 3 x a week lol literally under 10 min a plate full of hot stuffing yup my midnight snack a lot of times hahah
I literally cried with joy and heard angels sing when I learned of your sweet potato casserole. I’ll be making this for Thanksgiving this year! THANK you!!! Best video ever! You are a Blessing to the world!!
Thank you for sharing step by step all these great recipes, you were very easy to understand and easy on the eys😂 I will be making some of these dishes for my sides for christmas day, I know they will turn out perfect!
You can put that carnation in a pot and cover the can with water for 3hrs also and it will turn into Carmel. But i think your way is faster.Thank,s Teresa.
Amazing. I pretty much cook the same traditional foods every year but this year, I’m going to change a couple dishes using your recipes. Thank you so much. I watched your whole video!
Magnificently done!! I intend to try each one of these recipes for Thanksgiving and Christmas...unless you have some recipes to share for Christmas. You are an excellent instructor and I appreciate this video very much.
Such wonderful mouth watering recipes. The last several years I have started to warm my completed pumpkin pie mIx in the microwave for a few mins. It takes off the chill,so bakes a little faster and my pie crust edge doesn’t get too brown.
I made the turkey and the cornbread dressing it was delicious. Everyone commented on how tender the turkey was. Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed the video so much. Blessings!!

I watched the entire episode and learned so many things! And your presentation/instructions were so on point. Easy to understand and follow! I’m updating several of my traditional recipes as a result of this video! I’ll be following you from now on. Thanks for EVERYTHING❣️
I truly enjoyed watching this chef cook. I watch the entire show. He is a great teacher voice so pleasant and great tone. I will just say he is very smooth. Again i really enjoyed his presentation. I want to try all that he cooked especially the sweet potato and apple and the dressing/stuffing. Thank you chef you are awesome and amazing.
This is such a great compromise on technique! It makes it so much easier than the full blown cheffy versions, but it's still elevated. And I've never had dressing with egg in it, but it makes complete sense. I'm going to do a dry run of this with a whole chicken and see how the family likes it so they don't Marie Antoinette me on Thanksgiving 😁. Happy Fall 2023, everyone! 🧡🙏🕊🍂👻🎃🕷🍁🕸️🦃🥧
I used Herb de Provence last year on my turkey with a sour cream run, I put the spice in the sour cream and rubbed my turkey down. It was so juicy the meat fell apart and melted in your mouth. My family loved it and requested it this yr
@@rebeccahall4961 that's brilliant! I've always wanted to marinate a turkey in buttermilk and buffalo sauce like i do for chicken, but that's just asking for a contamination catastrophe with a big ole slippery turkey. With sour cream (or yoghurt), it'll adhere and tenderize like a curry! 👏💚🙏🕊
if you make a chicken, you could put the stuffing inside... and with a turkey, try apples and mugwort (sagebrush) - it's traditional in Germany for filling ducks and goose.
I made the turkey, the stuffing with bread , the mashed potatoes, the cranberry sauce. And it was sooo good. I made the apple pie with already cooked apples and crumble on top (take care that the piecrust, apples and crumble are really cold, so preferably make this the day before) and cooked some veggies to complete the dish.
@@latimesfood difficult to choose. First time I made a Thanksgiving diner. (I live in Belgium.) It was the best diner I ever ate. I loved tge turkey, the stuffing and the apple pie.

Yep, fantastic! Yes, you're so fine! You are so detailed oriented by how you explain the recipes and how you give options and also thank you for sticking with mother nature😊 Appreciate you 😊
I bone my turkey, marinate the entire bird for 48 hours. Then make the dressing, smash it into the open caucus, sew it up. Looks like a duck, but when it’s cooked, slicing is a breeze, each piece is wrapped around the dressing. Lovely presentation and the taste is amazing. Worth the work, usually I have a few on lookers sipping wine as I prep.

I also cook the gizzards, livers, neck with onions, celery and any spices you like to make your own stock for the gravy. I also use the juice to put in the stuffing. I don't like big stuffing. I use more smaller pieces of bread.
I also make my stuffing the way my Mummy used to make it. Cooked and chopped gizzard, liver, onions. Cooked boiled eggs, S&P, worcestershire sauce, cooked chopped potatoes. I also add l pkg of stuffing mix with sage. Melted butter. Very tasty and moist.
Everything looks scrumptious. Not too difficult to make which definitely gives me the incentive to try them all. Very different from how I make Turkey but I’m anxious to give it a go. I’m so happy to have found this channel. Please keep the recipes coming. Very much appreciated.❤❤
I love all your recipes, though I cut back on the salt a bit...lol..I especially like your recipe for green bean casserole from scratch...Im allergic to soy and can soup is loaded with it... I will be trying this for turkey day😊
I hope they do one Gor Christmas and holiday baking. On the latter I would love to have them make the macadamia nut tropical fruit cake the Times published ad bout 1980. My copy of the recipe got "borrowed" and then "lost". The LA Times always had the best recipes!❤
Great 👍 informational video. Very detailed and thorough. I love cooking and the holidays. I have cooked turkeys before, but your video is the best video for overall, start to finish preparing. Really appreciate all your time in this video and effort. I am here in So Cal, born here, but will be moving out of state next week to beautiful Tennessee. Can't wait, open space. Average and house being built, so will be able to cook your recipes next year for Thanksgiving 2024. I am currently watching 9-22-23. Blessings 🙏
My stuffing is cornbread, sage, red apple, cooked wild rice, walnuts or pecans, broth, celery, onions, garlic, & chives. Put into bird & extra pan for munching on with all the vegie left overs. That's my favorite part of Thanksgiving, turkey only good for skin & stuffing. Tho my husband likes it.
I use a deep roasting pan with a rack lined with parchment paper. Easy clean up. Cook the neck, heart, gizzard and liver, bay leaf Use the broth for the gravy.
Or if you don’t have an expensive roasting pan buy a disposable Turkey pan at your dollar store. Just make sure you put a baking sheet under it for support. Lining it with foil to protect against leaks or spills isn’t a bad idea either.

I am so impressive on how well you explain every dish you make especially the pumpkin and peacan pie which by the way is my favor one thank you for sharing 🎉 N
The way he cuts that orange, you know he's a perfectionist. Kudos to him. Unfortunately, I don't have that amount of patience to cut the ends and slice around it, when I can just peel it.
Thank you so much for your wonderful Thanksgiving foods and recipes. I love Thanksgiving. Appreciate your more simple ways to prepare all the favorites. Blessings 🙏
Enjoyed this video very much. Got a lot of tips and some new recipes although I thought you used way to much salt! I usually beat my mashed potatoes which makes them very smooth and creamy. Glad you added orange to your cranberries which makes them all the better. Your instructional detail was excellent.
You can also add dried cranberries -- soak them in warm water so they plump up -- about a cups worth --- adds a festive element -- oh! and make the stuffing the night before and let all of the elements merge overnight in the fridge! Happy Thanksgiving!
I have personally cooked for decades traditional Thanksgiving menus.... I commend you on all your items, both the prep, to the execution. Great demos, advice and, when's dinner? Bon apetite. !
If I only had to peel 3 pounds of potatoes I’d think I’d died and gone to heaven. My son loves potatoes and mash potatoes in particular. I peel at least ten pounds of large russet potatoes. And because he is 99% vegan, more than half are getting vegan butter, and the rest get lots of butter and milk or heavy cream. We hope to have leftovers to enjoy the next day, I like my leftover potatoes smothered in giblet gravy. Yum. I’m really enjoying this video. I’m back in Texas but lived in So Cal for 27 years. I have a lot of recipes from the LA Times….. Happy Thanksgiving!
Interesting to watch the prep of the turkey, all the steps except what I consider an important one, rinsing through the cavity and the outside with cold water.
Fantastic! You're a fine teacher. You look great; you sound good; you are easy and relaxed. making us relaxed. This was fun. But, you do not need that "music"! It upstages your great work. It made me crazier than I already am. You are super! Don' upstage your hard and special work.
@@almasmyth9361 Thanks for that! I literally grew up in professional showbiz. By the time I was 18 if someone had tried that music in a performance of mine I would have called my agent immediately!
@@mattmiller8614 Hi. Because I don't call that music. Of course, I realize it is to many people. Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving. I hope it was a good one for you.
I volunteered to make Thanksgiving dinner this year for the first time…..I now appreciate my Grandma and mother more than ever before. Instant regret 😅. Wish me luck ya’ll.
Watching people cook is relaxing therapy. Especially if they are talented cooks like this Chef
It certainly is. Very relaxing.
Yesss it is ‼️🤗🤗❤️
Just like going to a 3d art museum.

Hey leave stove top out of this lol
Huh this seems labor intensive to me wow lol , I do a dry brine night before , compound butter her right on up and under and voila with of course seasonings and aromatics inside cavity but you get the jist of what I’m saying is easy in comparison but it sounds wonderfully delicious ❤️
He makes it very simple, no fancy turkey rack, not even an Allclad roasting pan or turkey lifters! Man, thos dripping look awesome! You can’t make a bad gravy with that!

I can not believe I spent almost two hours just to watch this gentleman cooking - And I enjoyed and learned so much from this channel. Thank you.
Ok thank you
I know right? Me too. Loved every minute of it😊
When I was young and made my first turkey I left the bag inside I didn’t know. But it was good.
My dad and I did too one year my mom had to work😂
Wouldn't you need a deeper turkey pan, with all that butter and juices? Oh my gosh, looks delicious! Alot of great tips, such as thick onions under turkey, lemons inside. Full preparation of turkey is great 👍 👍👍
Thats what i was thinking! I would have sloshed boiling turkey fat right on to my feet sure shootin'! 😂 It did look delicious, but my head would roll if i changed the family recipes! I think i'll try it with a whole chicken first and see how everyone likes it. Hope you have an awesome Fall! 🧡🙏🕊
I usually make gravy in that pan.
Oh no
Watching people cook is relaxing therapy.
Such a great teacher
Subscribed after seeing this 😊
Wow, thank you!!
Great to see the basics from the beginning-just what a newbie needs. :)
I don’t trim the skin, I let it melt to make extra gravy. Super easy. 🍗
You are a talented chef and a terrific teacher. Thank you.
The pumpkin pie is a keeper! The pie dough came together quickly and easily and the filling was delicious.
This video is fantastic. Clean, simple and fresh. I definitely learned some things I'll be using this Thanksgiving. Thanks so much.

THE PERFECT THANKSGIVING AWARD WINNING - NO FUSS TURKEY RECIPE😃🥰😁
(Spend more time with family and not in the kitchen)
DAY 1 THE NIGHT BEFORE
#1. Let your turkey thaw out completely on the counter overnight in packaging. That's right! And this may seem scary for some of you as they say don't do this. I think that warning is just to scare folks. I've been doing this since the early 2000's now! Why do this? To seasoning the turkey deep on the inside.
Possibly Day 3
THE NIGHT BEFORE THANKSGIVING DAY
THANKSGIVING MORNING
LOL😉
@@nancydelu4061hahahaha 😂that’s great! Yeah, stuffing is the best part of thanksgiving.
Haven't tried these recipes but was so fascinated that I watched to the end and hope to watch over and over again
Thank you for sharing step by step all these great recipes, you were very easy to understand and easy on the eys😂 I will be making some of these dishes for my sides for christmas day, I know they will turn out perfect!
You make each step look so easy and fun. Thank you.
Thoroughly enjoyed this and I’m a home cook for decades learned from my mother grandmother and great aunt ❤
Me to! but I have perfected some of their recipes.
I love this and cannot wait to replay it three more times as I prepare Thanksgiving (s)!
Magnificently done!! I intend to try each one of these recipes for Thanksgiving and
Christmas...unless you have some recipes to share for Christmas.
Blessings!!

Cranberry Sauce. All your receipes look so delicious!
Turkey, stuffings, gravy, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes.
Very informative video.
Thank you.
😂😂😂😂😂 great plan. I thought the same thing to. Do a dry run
@@vtwlim67 😄🫶
if you make a chicken, you could put the stuffing inside... and with a turkey, try apples and mugwort (sagebrush) - it's traditional in Germany for filling ducks and goose.
I make my own cranberry sauce every year but I add a spicy plum and Apple preserve to it. Delicious 😋
Glad you liked it! Which dish was your favorite??
@@latimesfood difficult to choose. First time I made a Thanksgiving diner. (I live in Belgium.) It was the best diner I ever ate. I loved tge turkey, the stuffing and the apple pie.

Yep, fantastic! Yes, you're so fine! You are so detailed oriented by how you explain the recipes and how you give options and also thank you for sticking with mother nature😊
Appreciate you 😊
I bone my turkey, marinate the entire bird for 48 hours.

Stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and mixed veggies ❤

My stuffing is cornbread, sage, red apple, cooked wild rice, walnuts or pecans, broth, celery, onions, garlic, & chives. Put into bird & extra pan for munching on with all the vegie left overs. That's my favorite part of Thanksgiving, turkey only good for skin & stuffing. Tho my husband likes it.
great recipes-simple, classic and delicious 🤌 and this chef is amazing!
Sausage and corn 🌽 bread stuffing also, looks super great 👍
Excellent!!! I loved your video, your recipes and all your tips. I will definitely make this menu. THANK YOU!!
Adorei o video, uma refeição completa. Parabéns
I use a deep roasting pan with a rack lined with parchment paper. Easy clean up. Cook the neck, heart, gizzard and liver, bay leaf
Use the broth for the gravy.
Or if you don’t have an expensive roasting pan buy a disposable Turkey pan at your dollar store. Just make sure you put a baking sheet under it for support. Lining it with foil to protect against leaks or spills isn’t a bad idea either.

THANKSGIVING MORNING
LOL😉
I am so impressive on how well you explain every dish you make especially the pumpkin and peacan pie which by the way is my favor one thank you for sharing 🎉

The way he cuts that orange, you know he's a perfectionist. Kudos to him. Unfortunately, I don't have that amount of patience to cut the ends and slice around it, when I can just peel it.
Just do you hun ! However you wanna do it and it makes you happy
I was impressed by the beautiful browning of your turkey.
What a great tutorial. Thank you for sharing your skills and techniques. This puts me ahead in preparing for our holiday feast. 😊
That sweet potato casserole! Everything looks delish!
Thank you so much for your wonderful Thanksgiving foods and recipes. I love Thanksgiving. Appreciate your more simple ways to prepare all the favorites. Blessings 🙏
Thank you!!
We roast our pumpkin and it is beautiful orange the key in picking the perfect pumpkin
I have personally cooked for decades traditional Thanksgiving menus....
I commend you on all your items, both the prep, to the execution.
Great demos, advice and, when's dinner?
Bon apetite. !
LOVE, LOVE, LOVED! Great premise to start with, riffing off tried and true faves. Good Job!
I can say Thanksgiving food is very perfectly, Thanks for sharing 😍💕❤❤❤
I’m so glad to see that he’s seasoning the food.
Hey you're one of the most attractive chefs I have ever seen😍I enjoyed watching you cook,💜from Arkansas🏳🌈
I make stuffing with chicken and pork chips often. Gravy too. I think once a year is not enough. I wish you could get whole turkey more often.
Amazing! That you so much for such detailed instructions! Love it! Gonna try tomorrow
I loved this video and all the recipes! Thank you so much for covering the classics!
This is the perfect Thanksgiving meal! TY❤
use extra skin to stuff with the compound butter under the skin
fry the apples partially so they cooked well in pie when baked
Love how you explain the steps to each recipe. Make it look so easy and tasty. Thank you! Have a great Thanksgiving this year!🦃
These r great recipes, I made the green bean gratin and the potatoes so yummy
Thank you for sharing, will be making several of these recipes this year, they look delicious🥰
Wow you went above and beyond for us! Thank you for all these delicious recipes
Interesting to watch the prep of the turkey, all the steps except what I consider an important one, rinsing through the cavity and the outside with cold water.
Really enjoyed your recipes. I’m going to incorporate some of your ingredients and ways into my recipes. Was easy to follow. Saved it.
Looks so good. 🫶
Great recipes. I'll be using quite a few this November, minus some of the salt.
Fantastic! You're a fine teacher. You look great; you sound good; you are easy and relaxed. making us relaxed. This was fun. But, you do not need that "music"! It upstages your great work. It made me crazier than I already am. You are super! Don' upstage your hard and special work.
I agree wholeheartedly with you regarding the background music. Totally takes away from the wonderful video.
@@almasmyth9361 Thanks for that! I literally grew up in professional showbiz. By the time I was 18 if someone had tried that music in a performance of mine I would have called my agent immediately!
I like the music
Why is music in quotations?
@@mattmiller8614 Hi. Because I don't call that music. Of course, I realize it is to many people. Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving. I hope it was a good one for you.
Thanks a bunch for this video! I’m hosting thanksgiving for the first time and this was a huge help!
