Yesterday I cooked my very first thanksgiving dinner and I feel the need to thank babish for coaching me through a badass thanksgiving dinner that blew my whole family away
I made my entire thanksgiving out of recipes on this video. Ty Babish, this TG was my first introduction to my GF's family, and I made a delicious first impression.
I do this every year as well. The pie crust from his pie video is the only one that has worked for me. Of course adapted to my area. We have a lot of humidity
Sometimes watching one Babish episode by itself can be a bit intimidating, more entertainment than inspiration, because you're so competent and there's so much to do to put a successful Thanksgiving together. But watching this marathon all together, the common threads between the episodes become clearer, and watching you do variations on the same theme over and over is weirdly confidence-boosting. It brings the huge and significant Thanksgiving Dinner down to, well, just food. Thanks for that; it means a lot.
Also keep in mind that as competent as Babish is, as intimidating as some of his stuff can look, he makes mistakes just like we do 😅 if something comes out slightly wrong treat it as a learning experience and learn it for the next time. You can do it!
I made a carrot souffle once for thanksgiving and my grandmother loved it so much that she now REQUIRES me to bring it for both Thanksgiving and Christmas every year otherwise she gets upset with me 😂😂😂.
@1:31 Andrew, there ain't no gluten in potatoes... over-mixing potatoes can bind up starches in the potatoes, but they aren't made of gluten which is a protein found in some grains.
Hey Andrew, I'm hosting Thanksgiving this year and cooking for 7+ people. I'm off to face the hoards and gather my ingredients for our dinner today, and this is exactly what I needed for some inspo and to get into the Thanksgiving spirit. You're the best.
1:27 - _"That we want to whisk minimally, just enough to incorporate the butter because we don't want to build up any gluten."_ But potatoes don't have any gluten...
I find it very funny that Babish now has over ten million subscribers, but the Basics intro still has that awkward, obvious loop in the music. Stylistic tradition, or something.
I mean, there was an attempt to change the intro while using another part of the same song as a jingle. It lasted around two episodes because many people hated it. And probably hated change in general.
Remember to see the comments in the Turkey Basics if you're bold enough to deep fry a turkey. The Babish team forgot a key part about deep frying. *DON'T* TURN UP THE TEMPERATURE!!!
been doing the one side toasted bread trick since i accidentally put two slices of bread in one side of the toaster as a kid and discovered the superior textural experience.
Being a european cooking show fan during november is so strange. I'm watching all these videos about a holiday I'll never celebrate and a dish I'll never make.
@@ScarletBrimstone I always thought they were yummy. I have adapted her recipe for chicken and rice and it's one of my husband's favorite things to eat. The first time I made for him & our son who was about 2 or 3, my husband had 3 helpings and my son had 2. I slid it into our meal rotation and we've even taken it camping, packed in a gallon sized Ziploc bag.
No complain I love this channel.. but I do miss the classic OG binging with babish, the movie food remakes stuff.. can't find any of those anymore, still love your content bro
Would love to see you make Bubble Buddy's Krabby Patty: No cheese No crust Pickles on the left side 4 squirts of ketchup under the patty Wheat buns Non dairy lettuce Farm raised tomatoes Carnival style
Pardon me while I say things no one asked for It's all about what you're interested in and how it's being presented. A well-made TH-cam video explaining whatever the hypothetical lecture would have been about would probably hold your interest just as well as this, depending on the subject
Please think about making any of these banquet ideas for Thanksgiving: Coraline- Other Mother's Dinner Shrek 2- Royal Dinner (while also reenact family argument) Pokemon anime- Honey Dishes (Danger Sweet as Honey episode) SpongeBob SquarePants- Magic Conch Shell's Gift (Club SpongeBob episode)
Hey Babish, had what might be a fun idea for Binging with Babish. If it's at all sanitary to do Pork Butts and Taters from Cow and Chicken, I'm sure that would be a fun episode.
Since no one else has said it. It's suppose to be baking SODA not baking powder to improve the maillard reaction. The science is to adjust the PH and powder has an acidic component which doesn't help as much as if it were only soda.
Or just purée if you talk to anyone French... Just stick with the recipe from Joël Robuchon who wrote the book on mashed potatoes, and his recipe involves a whole lot less trouble... The trick is to use waxy, rather than starchy potatoes... You actually don't really want all that starch in your mash... That said, the excessive amounts of butter seem about right...
Last year I decided to make Keto Stuffing, following your recipe for stuffing but replacing the bread with Inked Wolf Keto Seeds... it worked amazingly. But it also taught me that my oven is weird... it can go down to 130F. Considering I live about an hour from a place that can actually get that hot naturally, I found that amazing. And yes, I mean Death Valley.
I did the last minute thanksgiving dinner for Christmas in 2020! It was delicious!! Although I tripped at the finish line and burned my hand! :( The next day when I was no longer in pain I could appreciate just how delicious it was! 10/10!!
I watched that and it imidietly recalled a great memory about a stuffed chiken on my grandma's table... The difference is that in Poland we use to stuff poultry with kind of pate with green parsley
I got 6 minutes into this without ever checking the time stamp, and got so surprised when the snoopy clip came on and there was over an hour and 40 minutes left in the video
Wow... The overall vibe changes a lot between the beginning of the video to the end. I get it, it's a compilation, it's just interesting to see the evolution
My father passed away just last month. I loved him so much, yet life took him away too soon and too fast. But I'm sure that I would've had a great Thanksgiving dinner with him, whether we have it properly... Or we just get lazy and order pizza to eat together. I'll think about him a lot while I eat on Thanksgiving.
Congrats on the win, Andrew, loved your reaction. I think, to be fair, you shouldnt get to taste test the competition first. Give you an advantage, that I dont think you need.
Ive been using your greenbean cadserole recipe for two years now, and an expanded version of the cream of mushroom is my go to recipe for the soup in general.
You're sharing this meal amongst, on average, at least 10 people. You could get a few spoonfuls of each dish, one plate full. My family's gathering was around 30 people, so we had much smaller portions 😅 It's more about the variety than anything.
Taters don't have gluten, they become thick because of "starch gelatinization". They don't contain gelatin either, it just means the starch takes on water and becomes gummy.
*Audum in a Glass* the drink made in the last few seconds of this video is also known as a *Broken Leg* ...just needs the whipped cream on top ...and found at every skiing resort in North America
Lol same here. Once when I was a child I snuck away with the whole bowl meant to feed everyone at dinner and they found me asleep under the living room coffee table with a big empty bowl.
Came here for extra inspiration since im not handling the turkey this year, i had chili, manicotti (fried), pecan pie, meatball filled cheese biscuits, mashed potatoes and stuffing planned but felt like it wasn't grand enough.
Between the Gas Station and The Sizzler two dudes on motorcycles. I’m coming around from the gas station where I bought a Dr Pepper and a snickers bar. Just as I round the corner to my bike (we were 12…I’m a twin) dude on the motorcycle closest to the back wall of the gas station is trying and failing to get his motorcycle to turn over. His friend pushed the ignition button and his motorcycle rumbled on.

The comfort content I didn't know I needed. I live in the UK where thanksgiving is not a thing but saving this for Christmas!
I made my entire thanksgiving out of recipes on this video. Ty Babish, this TG was my first introduction to my GF's family, and I made a delicious first impression.
Awesome homie.
how many turkeys did you need?
I wonder if there’s enough Christmas recipes to do this for next month
guaranteed
I forgot I was watching the same episode and was wondering why two different Babishes had the exact same top comment
There has to be
Don’t forget the cookies and hot chocolate 😬🎄
You got the whole world bud
I’ve been going back and watching each of these videos to perfect my Thanksgiving recipes each year. So glad I can have them all in one spot now!
I do this every year as well. The pie crust from his pie video is the only one that has worked for me. Of course adapted to my area. We have a lot of humidity
That’s just a basic pie pastry. The secret is for EVERYTHING to be very very cold and to handle it as little as possible.

I absolutely love this type of video, Idk why but the conversation between Andy and Brad makes me so happy
Pro tip: watch this while eating mac and cheese, idk why but this video improved it tenfold
I made a carrot souffle once for thanksgiving and my grandmother loved it so much that she now REQUIRES me to bring it for both Thanksgiving and Christmas every year otherwise she gets upset with me 😂😂😂.
congrats.
@1:31 Andrew, there ain't no gluten in potatoes... over-mixing potatoes can bind up starches in the potatoes, but they aren't made of gluten which is a protein found in some grains.
I stopped watching because of this. I think many people do not know what gluten is.
He probably meant to say that they get gummy, which is what happens when you over mix
Thanksgiving is my favourite holiday and I thoroughly enjoyed this feature-length film about it.
I'm sitting here eating my last minute thanksgiving dinner for one right now thanks to Babish. The brussels sprout trick is insane!
Hey Andrew, I'm hosting Thanksgiving this year and cooking for 7+ people. I'm off to face the hoards and gather my ingredients for our dinner today, and this is exactly what I needed for some inspo and to get into the Thanksgiving spirit. You're the best.
thanks for this dude, i 1. have something to watch when i should be sleeping and 2. now i know how to crisp turkey
The thanksgiving cinematic recipe collection
Hopefully he updates it with next week's episode
1:27 - _"That we want to whisk minimally, just enough to incorporate the butter because we don't want to build up any gluten."_
But potatoes don't have any gluten...
If you whisk too hard you run the risk of knocking over a nearby tub of flour into your potatoes

it always sounded natural to me

The magic is, you could totally make it
I really appreciate the part at 1:29:35 where you impersonated 99% of the BioWare and Bethesda RPG's that I've ever played.
not me slamming a fast food cheeseburger while babipoo whips up a faantastic thanksgiving din din
One of my favorite things my mother would do with leftover turkey was make turkey enchiladas.
As much of an abomination as it was, my mom did too😅

Nice and hearty 😊 But I don’t think potatoes have gluten, though they are known to get gluey when over mixed from starch.
Perhaps that's what he actually meant
I had homemade mashed potatoes and I swear it was gluey enough to make a school project
I remember that tragic day I put the "mashed potatoes" in the blender. Oy. 🤦♀️ Glue City!
lol I was like “ I’m pretty sure none of the ingredients for the potatoes contained gluten”. Glad I want the only one that noticed that lol
Interesting story 1:16:40 I have that same sweater. And as I have had it for like, 20 years, I find it amazing to see another one.

No cheese
No crust
Pickles on the left side
4 squirts of ketchup under the patty
Wheat buns
Non dairy lettuce
Farm raised tomatoes
Carnival style
On any day in December, you should make Grandma Spankenheimer's Fruitcake from Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer movie
Sweet potato souffle/casserole is better with the pecan/struesel topping. More texture and flavor vs just overly sweet marshmallows.

😂

The milk chocolate chocolate milk from everybody hates Chris next pls lol
My mom’s stuffing. Enough sage that you should have crazy dreams.
Alvin should do the foods from "Kirby and the forgotten land" especially the car cake!
The Thanksgiving sandwich needed a thin layer of cold mashed potatoes and sliced candied sweet potatoes. However, the gravy soaked bread is genius.
