- Learn to tie this easy, yet extremely effective little Mihulka Foam Panfish Popper using tricks I have developed over years of fly tying. Never cut a hook placement slot in the bottom of a great looking foam head again after seeing my simple technique to put a foam head on a hook!
Enjoyed it this is the second time I watched this one .
Thanks for watching my videos. This little popper is always in my box when going after panfish. Hope it works for you too!
Chris I appreciate that you are well prepared, that your explanations are clear and understandable and the videography is sharp. Well Done!! Great series you've put together. Thanks
I appreciate that!
this fly looks great. i am fairly new to fly fishing and the summer has kiced up here in nevada so i have been targeting bluegill and crappie to hold me over until fall when the trout pick back up. i purchased some panfish poppers from K&E and they work pretty well but the more i looked at them the more i thought i could save money and tie my own once i get a kit. this will be the first fly i attempt. simple and looks very effective. thanks for the video!!
Great popper..grwat technique..easy and efficient..thank you
I enjoy your videos. They are very informative and inspirational. Have you ever made the panfish poppers with rubber legs? If so, do you feed the legs through a hole in the side or do you tie them behind the popper?
Both ways can be done. Legs tied in with the tail cast easier, but legs through the body move more water and make a better disturbance if that is the effect you are after. With the new extra fine rubber and silicone products, you can run legs through the body with a sewing needle threaded with the leg material. Just remember to add a touch of tying cement to the legs before pulling them into their final position.
nice fly what size hook also what size foam disc any info would be great thanks Mark
Hi Mark, The hook is a Mustad #9672 size #12. The foam head is 1/4" diameter. Watch my "Foam Flies Part #1" for the details on how to make the heads.
I like this pattern. I am going to try tying it. Thank you!
Thanks for the reply
