    It genuinely pains me to see the hate getting to you, Jack. The synth world can be very toxic sometimes. Rest assured, you are a great addition to the vast amount of synth reviewers out there. If I wanted something dry and technical, I would just read the manual or the specifications on a synthesizer. You bring something else and I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos.

      Jack is clearly a phenomenal player of "traditional" keyboard, I love watching him demo pianos, organs, etc.
      I'm absolutely not going to use words like "hate" because I admire him massively for the above.
      Having said that, I'd be great if Andertons got in someone who understands the synth world to demo synths. Just like they have specific experts for guitar (Danish Pete) and Bass (the two people whose names escape me now - forgive me, I don't watch the bass channel often).
      A good synth demo isn't about keyboard skills, it's about understanding the sound sculpting etc.
      Jack is tremendous, just not right for this sort of demo in my respectful view.

    • @incompetentlogistics
      @incompetentlogistics ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hoagy_ytfc I respect your opinion, my counterpoint however would be that Andertons do bring in people now and then that are more knowledgeable in patching and sound sculpting. In reviews they don't, you can always find someone else on TH-cam that will have covered the same instrument with a more technical approach.
      The playing skills and perspective that Jack brings to the table is a really nice addition to the buffet of synth reviews that exists in TH-cam. And personally, I prefer Jack most of the time because he is an awesome guy, down to earth and generally enjoyable to watch.
      Edit/footnote: Jack even mentions the more technical oriented youtubers in most videos. Like a true scholar.

    Great demo, Jack! Loved that you guys included the whole process.
    Folks here whining about the price - you're getting a genuine Moog VCO/Filter system in a single unit, something in Modular that would be 3+ units and cost twice as much. This thing is a solid starting point, or addition to a small system. Zero complaints. Moog's knocked this one out of the park.

    I absolutely love these videos. If you want more technical stuff there's plenty of that around, but no-one else's videos contain so much joy :~)
    Have I got more technical knowledge? Well, probably, but I've been at it since the early 70's so I damn well should have, (although I'll never be as good a keyboard player!), but these videos are different, they're all about the excitement of trying something new that you don't quite understand, and with enormous amounts of enthusiasm that I'm actually quite envious of. Yes, these days I could patch this thing up in seconds and know exactly what was going to come out, but I wouldn't have anywhere near as much fun....
    So ignore all the badness, it all comes from old fogeys like me (you can become an old fogey at 23 if you really work at it....). You always inspire me to plug something into the wrong hole (ooer missus!) just to see what happens. Keep up the good work!

    Great video, Jack, love how your struggling - also, this is exactly why I sold my Make Noise O-Coast after getting it as my very first synth. The videos on the internet showed crazy stuff what you could do with it but I didn't even know back then what an LFO is let alone what any of the cables did (and the O-Coast manual is like to sheets of toilet paper, didn't help). I'm slowly learning but as of now, I prefer less steampunk-ish, more intelligent gear, like the Norand Mono (or the Melbourne Instruments Nina at NAMM looked awesome, that's next-generation G.A.S. for me).

    I know it’s a real Moog , but way too expensive for a bleep bloop bleep . Not sure , but didn’t Korg do something like it a while back , much cheaper too ? At over £300.00 so much more out there , not sure the real hard core modular guys will want one and casual synth people like me would rather go for a second hand DeepMind 6 / any mono Behringer synth at this cost . The cards are a great idea and some of the noises it makes are very cool , amazing bottom end , but is it £300 plus cool , no arp , internal fx , sequencer etc oh and you have to make it yourself 🤣 Great video as usual from Jack though

    • @Leandrob13

      If you consider it a synth voice for eurorack, it is quite cheap. Compare it to doepfer a-115 and to malekko manther growl. It has more patchable points, more hp real state but more modular features. The only contender in my opinion in this range would be the east beast.

    • @g3cd
      @g3cd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It plays very well with the DFAM or the Subharmonicon and if you leave the case away, you can stick it straight into a Eurorack. So I think that's what the main purpose of it is (and this would also explain why it doesn't have octave shift - it's supposed to be a weird noise generator controlled over CV).

      @modularcafealdershot5321 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jameshall1075 @James Hall I understand why you'd think that from Jack's explanation, but it's really a performer's nerves coming through. They may say 'Oh that didn't work, I messed that up', but the audience engage with them, are interested in their process and passion, and show real support to some incredibly creative people. We are proud to offer an environment where people are able to beat their nerves and play their music in front of an audience, often for the first time.

    The very first thing I'd do if I were stuck with this as my only semi=modular synth is install proper knobs on these pots, ones suitable for adult size fingers not ones of a two-year old. Not sure why of all things the manufacturers decided to economise on a few milligrams of plastic, but if it's the environmental thing - then make them out of metal or wood. One of the most important points in choosing hardware over DAW is direct, manual hands on control, ruining that part just doesn't seem like a very solid market strategy.

    When a company passes the assembly line duties onto the customer! Also, best of luck to the Moog Music Labor Union: Moog workers fighting for a livable wage, better employee ownership practices, and I think that was it.... Oh yeah, marginalized people get fired from Moog at a higher rate. Not to mention a worker recently settled with Moog for gender discrimination. Some of the big news outlets never mentioned this "bcuz moog = God" but the truth is out there now. Not even a fancy desk cactus can hide it. No single company is above criticism.

    I know it’s a Moog but over £300.00 to make random squelchy farty noises is a bit much . The cue cards are a great idea and as a learning tool it’s tip top , although , I think Korg brought out something similar , build your own mono synth etc but at more realistic price . I’m pretty sure the hard core modular crowd will pass it by and you could get a second hand DeepMind6 / Behringer mini Moog clone for the same price / cheaper to make music and the odd silly beepy noise , enjoyed Jacks review even though it’s not for me .
