My favorite thing about your videos these days is I feel like I'm getting read one of my favorite books before I go to bed but also there's a massive rave.
Mavis sounds great and you make modular look so easy and fun! I explicitly said to my wife only two days ago "don't let me get into modular synthesis", I don't have the space or the money!
Once that DFAM triangle folding kicked in, I was sold. I need this exact setup. So many timbres, so many mod possibilities, and it does drive the output very well. That moog lader filter is still such an icon too! And doubly so when folding it afterwards. Like, "New Death Grips just dropped" gritty. So good!
The wavefolder is a type of diode wavefolder, using a diode ladder going into a set of op-amps, but it’s completely wild and like nothing I’ve ever heard (or seen on an oscilloscope) before
I’m just getting into modular and there’s a LOT of vids to choose from on here. Yours are by far the most informative for me as a beginner. Thanks man, I’m learning a ton off of you!
it's hard watching through your videos because after less than a minute you already have so much inspiration from them that you just wanna up and make some tunes
Using a stackable cable with that tuner was an inspired move... almost as inspired as using that multi-mode delay, filter and reverb pedal ;) Great to see Love Beams in the mix
If you see this as an eurorack module, it is a synth voice for under $400. The malekko manther growl is $500. The only direct competitor at this price point would be the east beast which includes a pseudo sequencer. Awesome musical review as always Sir. This is the werkstatt I was expecting last year.
Bang on about the burnt acid vibe of the filter. It's that acidic tinge that sounds most interesting about this. Plus the Moog Wavebender, which is what they should have called the synth. Or Wavejumper after the Drexciya track.
I mean this pretty much sold me on the Moog mavis, so thanks for that...ordered one this week, also the music that starts at 30:22 till the end really gave me inspiration. A tad confused as to what each module is contributing at that point. .great jam
Starting at about 21 1/2 minutes is what will be on my first generation Sony Walkman when I am free boarding (back country Moon boarding) just west of the Sea of Tranquility in that 1.5 km diameter bowl of Moondust that empties into a sweet Ridge run right into that little tavern on the backside of Reagan’s Brow. I’ll be banging Daphne Buffet Gates obviously, so it’ll all be comp. 1/6 earth G is hella sweet. Nice sounds.
Great sounding little synth. I like it. I'm tempted, even though I don't feel like I need it! :-/ Thinking of selling my Kilpatrick Phenol and filling the desktop space it occupies with a Mavis and Make Noise Strega! Erm ..............
I'm about to start moving up to more expensive equipment like moog for example and Eurorack systems. But I'd be really interested to see what you could do with some cheaper gear like the Behringer crave for example or behringer td-3. What to put them to and how to enhance them. Maybe talk about why they are cheap. Behringer is like the gateway drug to many of us so I'm interested in your perspective after year's working with higher end equipment.
If I didn’t already have a Werkstatt, I probably would. But that is a lot to pay for a waveshaper and a bigger patch bay, and its fitting in a modular case is not a selling point if you’ve not got the hp to spare. Loved that tuner though!
Excellent video and sounds. Can’t wait to get my tiny little fingers on those knobs. Speaking of knobs, tell me about those DFAM knobs. I’d love to find a set of those.
You should build Eurorack systems for people and sell as a complete set. This is a perfect sound and imagen adding the acid Eurorack you built previously. Wow a complete rave box. How did you create this Eurorack case for all these? Could you make a video adding this and the acid Eurorack together in one case? Then show us so I can build my own 🙏
Routing the oscillator to the S+H is one of those “why didn’t I think of this myself” moments. This is gonna provide me with hours of fun on my Neutron while I save for a Mavis- which is, more or less, exactly what I’ve been looking for in a semi-modular synth.
Neutron + Mavis looks like fun. I have the 904A VCF which works nicely with the Neutron. I use the Neutron as a sound engine for my Roland AE-30 wind synth.
Amazing as always. Moments of Morton Subotnick masquerading as a humble product demo. Will you ever perform in San Francisco? I’d love to hear you live.
Yes, I remembered Mavis the fairy from Willo the Wisp and thought, "Nice touch! But why the pink dog thing?" A brief Google image search later: "Ohhh!" Which now begs the question, did Moog name the Mavis in direct reference to Willo the Wisp?
Get a powered (eg integrated power) 104HP case and it’ll take both! As it’s 44+60hp - or get a 6U 104HP case would be my recommendation so you have some space below/above for other modules
If I were just starting my eurorack I'm sure that this would have been the main voice around which I built the system. Edit: 4:40, if you got it you might as well swing it around
My favorite thing about your videos these days is I feel like I'm getting read one of my favorite books before I go to bed but also there's a massive rave.
certainly the Bob Ross of synthesizers 😂
Better have your big, fat pants on Jeremy. ;)
You both put some great jams inside the videos.
DJ David Attenborough
Brilliant description @redmeansrecording

I passed on a Mavis for two hundred bucks last weekend and now TH-cam is serving me up videos of them and I feel like an idiot. This is a great one!
Wow! That pattern at 19:17 is gorgeous.
Thanks!
For synth education that is also musically pleasing you are tip top Alex. This is the best Mavis video by far and I've watched every one I could find.
The wavefolder is a type of diode wavefolder, using a diode ladder going into a set of op-amps, but it’s completely wild and like nothing I’ve ever heard (or seen on an oscilloscope) before
For all the criticisms you can level at Mavis, and there aren’t many, the bottom line is it sounds absolutely phat.
Well done Moog x
I’m just getting into modular and there’s a LOT of vids to choose from on here. Yours are by far the most informative for me as a beginner. Thanks man, I’m learning a ton off of you!
Ooof, that timbre that comes in about 27:41 is freaking amazing. I'm definitely hooking Mavis up to DFAM when it shows up.
Your West coast Acid / B-Boy stuff gets my heart pumping! Awesome!
The higher pitch stuff that starts at 31:45 is lovely, such a cool sound to end with
That’s due in part to the pedal! The Love Beams does a wicked pitch shifted delay
dude idk how can I express all of this but... you rock 🧡
Thank you for making the best synth videos on the interwebs
love this demo.... I really super love what you were doing at about 19:40. Passing through that delay made it very dreamy...

Any idea what the tuner is?! Looks great.
Korg DT-4!
@@mylarmelodies Ah, thank you! What a cool little tuner.
Great video, it sounds awesome. I know me though I would make one bass patch I love and never touch it again for fear of losing the patch. 😅
One of your best videos yet, Mr. Melodies! “Mavis Vs. Electro” would be a sick concept for a live set…
Dude you have like a whole Electro Ep here :)
saw a lot of tutorials on this beast but now i hear!!! its so good!
Big sibling to the werkstatt. They gave it a volume knob, S&H, Wade folding and a real envelope
You're making me want one...
I really like your format. You show us how the damn thing works; then you actually play it. Nice, man.
This will definitely be the best video for Mavis. I want to do exactly what you did 😊
If you see this as an eurorack module, it is a synth voice for under $400. The malekko manther growl is $500. The only direct competitor at this price point would be the east beast which includes a pseudo sequencer. Awesome musical review as always Sir. This is the werkstatt I was expecting last year.
it’s an easy beast with a wavefolder/s+h and made by moog and so i think it really just comes down to if that’s worth the !100 extra.
Thanks for the tutorial
Mavis is so much fun
that jam around 21minutes is proper fire, very much drexciya style 👏
Bang on about the burnt acid vibe of the filter. It's that acidic tinge that sounds most interesting about this. Plus the Moog Wavebender, which is what they should have called the synth. Or Wavejumper after the Drexciya track.

I have one but I’ve been planning to move so it’s I assembled in my box’s , I had no idea it was capable of bass like that!
Informative and delightful as always. And +1,000,000 for including Mavis Cruet.
heh heh, something for those of a certain generation and place 📺🧙♀️
Excellent demo! Sounds really dope!
That rave is so powerful...jaming skills 10/10

Finally someone who knows what they're doing with this thing
Came for the Moog, left with an Otis - Love beams
Aha, it’s lovely that and a pretty sick drive pedal though I couldn’t use that aspect here
Great video! You are hilarious. You can convey joy with only your hands.
I love the first jam when Mavis comes out of its shell, but the Mavis with the DFAM is really getting my attention now.
Before loopop? Blimey.
It's like an upgraded Werkstatt and a similar price point.
DAMN IT!
Thank you, for the thoughtful rundown on the Moog Mavis.
Amazing Mavis! Thank you for another inspiring video
Gnarly af… love your Moog reviews
An upgraded Werkstatt-01 with a proper patch bay and a waveshaper, you say? And it'll fit in a eurorack case? Don't mind if I do!
Serial No. 00002. That's insane. I can almost guarantee you that No. 00001 is with Moog in Asheville.
The only demo I really need
Sounding very Mylar. Nice.
I have a few synths, but might have the most fun with my Werkstatt. I didn't feel GAS for this until I heard this video.
Damn you! 😉
you can really make that thing sing. nice demo my dude.
excellent sum up!
Banging vid as always x
Nice indeed lol...badass demo!
You certainly squeezed some marvelous sounds out of that little box. Would love to have explored the patches in depth ... but it was what it was.
Nice 2 hp panel you have there in the Eurorack case.
Thought you’d like that!!
@@mylarmelodies Yes I do.
Guthrie would be proud
I feel like one of the screaming girls at a 60 beetles concert when Alex releases a new video.

Wow that's an amazing sound with the dfam
That Love Beams pedal is 🔥
Yeah it's lovely I must say, swirly odd delays and reverbs - it's also a pretty sick drive pedal
Thank you for this… I’m considering buying my first synth and this was a great video!!!
Excellent video
Serial # 00002 👌🏻
👌👌👌
Love it. The Moog people obviously love you.

Nice one Alex
genious as always!
finally, moog volca 🙌
Awesome video. I can’t be the only person who wants to know where to get those custom potentiometer caps? I need some of those babies.
Thonk tall trimmer toppers are an option! Alternatively I’ve fitted Davies clone knobs to mine (the ones with grub screws)
If I didn’t already have a Werkstatt, I probably would. But that is a lot to pay for a waveshaper and a bigger patch bay, and its fitting in a modular case is not a selling point if you’ve not got the hp to spare. Loved that tuner though!
And a volume knob. Wish my werkstatt had that
Wave folding is a nice touch 👽
Excellent video and sounds. Can’t wait to get my tiny little fingers on those knobs. Speaking of knobs, tell me about those DFAM knobs. I’d love to find a set of those.
@Finn Clarkson Thank you! Looking forward to tweaking these little things.
Yep Thonk Tall Trimmer Toppers! They fit on Mavis too
you had me at "burnt acid" ❤️

Oh wow
Very cool, sounding supet good
Nice 🔥🔥🔥🔥
My compliments to the chef
mavis + dfam + m185 + 880 = 🔥🔥🔥🔥💣💣💣💣
The best kind of filthy...OOF! Thank you!
“ but will it aphex twin?” Yes my friend
Can I get to know who's making these beautiful 808's?
What's next? Willow the whisp or evil Edna?
Car Wash on synths in space 🤓
Very cool sound example
Oh. Ryk sequencer. Nice
earned another sub with this. fantastic video
Great video! Thanks again...
So this is the Moog 0-Coast? I like it!
You could make a case for that I think, though it definitely still a bit more Easterly!
what is that mat underneath? it looks awesome! reminds me of king gizzard
moog products usually come with posters like this (: part of moog experience, even my 3 tier stand came with one
@@SomeOne-pd6vm ahhh ok, thank you
Yep it’s the poster you get in the box! They’ve gone all in for psychedelic imagery in their promo materials it seems

Seems that after all the Behringer cloning going on, Moog now goes head to head with them in the
How do you tell to a quantizer what notes would you like to hear? And what order...What is sequencing the notes? thx
nice one cant wait to try it
We definitly need more machinedrum (seq + sounds) inside eurorack !
Cool addition to the Moog Family. What tuner is that? Would love to check it out.
Korg DT-4!
the Willo the WIsp reference made my day. No really.
You’re the first to pick up on that! God bless Kenneth Williams

Late to the reply to say they're Thonk tall trimmer toppers! www.thonk.co.uk/shop/tall-trimmer-toppers/
Been thinking to build something similar. Maybe from Minimoogs schematics, hmm..
