For solo guitar BB definitely sounds fuller for clean playing like this. In a band, the SB will likely hold its own better, especially if driven. For more mid-high gain application, it’s definitely the SB. BB is not made for that application. BB definitely has a 6L6 vibe even though it’s using EL-34s.
The Betty is what I call a Friender. (Friedman [Marshall] + Fender dual reverb). Dave’s take on a kind of Fender Marshall hybrid. It’s gorgeous high headroom clean. Has a hint of plexi to it.barely a hint. All in a good way. Mine only lacks the built in reverb. It’s also a fantastic pedal platform and clean platform. Killer jazz amp. Killer bright switch.. The Smallbox is a 2 channel 70s/80s Hot rod Marshall dream. At least that’s my impression. I hope to play one soon. One side a kind of Friedman Take on an old school superlead-ish Marshall plexi but with the best master volume in the business. From many accounts also a killer pedal platform. Channel 2 is a modded JCM 800. Each with separate gain and master volumes. I can’t wait!
@@sea-dawg I have a few cabs. Marshall 4x12 sounds incredible. But currently running through a custom closed back 2x12 with a heavy creamback (75w) and a vintage 30. Those have become my fave combo for a 212.
To me it's like saying the screw driver is better than the hammer. Both are so deliciously good. The Betty is the way to go for a more pure clean tone, for sure. It's more Fender than Marshall, but retains the plexi-ish top end in its own way. I agree it's an amazing amp (the clean on my BE50). But the clean Plexi on the Small Box is also gorgeous. I wish they did more here without the effects. Both have a special place and gift. They are still sonically closely related, like 1st cousins or male and female siblings. The Betty is the female, the Small Box the male version. More hairy and chewy. So depends what you're performing which one you'd want to use. For a studio, so awesome to have both!
Excellent clip & playing, thanks for sharing. Question for ya, what speakers are in the cabinets your using, & are they different from one another, or are they the same speaker’s in each cabinet? Keep up the great work!
I agree I was going to get the buxom betty but instead I'm going to get another small box just in case. Being a 70s rocker the small box is what my has always been yearning for. Both channels really do it for me.

Love this video. I wonder what it would sound like with the guitar going through both together.
Buxom Betty all day. Amazing amp. I own the head and the combo. It's that good.

@@RalphKramden-q4t It's true I picked up a small box too and am in love with it also. Your hammer analogy is spot on, I agree. Love them both.

Thanks! :) Always V30s with the Bogner cab.
Hi, thanks for the video. What pickups are on this strat ? thanks !
Fantastic. Great tones on the plexi channels. What are you using for reverb?
Hi,
we used the TC HOF.
I like the smallbox better. Both sound great though.
