she doesnt even actually ATTEND the school for him. she enrolls for him, she went to that first class for him, but after that moment where he talks down to her despite making it in to Harvard, its just a movie about a woman applying herself to FULLY PASS LAW SCHOOL to spite a man who she realized didnt respect her as a person.
i have no doubts that she fully payed that harvard tuition planning to go to One (1) class and win him back, and when that didnt happen she straight up became a lawyer.
This is not a romcom. It's a career com. Her success isn't dependent on a man. It's based on her accomplishments!!!! This was SO SO SO important! Especially in 2001!!!!
I don't think Jennifer's character is meant to be dumb. She's shy, lacks confidence and had been spoken down on by her Verbally abusive ex. She showed the typical Abuse victim Characteristics.
I made my husband watch this and in the court room scene he figures out of the reveal because his mom would get perms when he was little. I was so shocked I had to pause the movie to laugh and text everyone.
@@kotaniyumiko I think we can all agree to disagree. The music from Cruel Intentions still lives on but yet I can’t say I remember a single track from Legally Blonde. Legally Blonde is a good movie for sure but it’s also another stereotype movie and there’s a lot of those so it can get lost a little bit easier
Saying "she has her book club and production company" lightly as a passing comment is funny because it is such a brilliant business move!!! She basically has an ongoing successful book-to-movie machine because she can see the books that perform the best in book club and gets first right to make it a film at her production company! Never ending lucrative cycle of media!!!
This is going to be controversial, I love a lot of the songs don't get me wrong, however, I think that the fact that Emmet is the reason she starts wanting to succeed in the musical makes the premise weaker than the original movie. In the original movie, she has help that is true, but her drive to succeed is within her and she is struggling but she is the ultimate decider of her own success, where as in the musical Emmet is the reason she starts to even really try in school. He is the reason she even begins to study in the musical. I think the movie is more inspirational for having the strength within and ownership of your own destiny. I still do think the musical has a fun spin and songs that are serious ear worms :)
@fallingstars360 my thoughts exactly! It takes away from her badassery! I understand they wanted to give him a bigger role but they should've found another way
UNPOPULAR OPINION: the musical version of legally blonde is better than the movie 😱 The develop enemy’s and Elle’s relationship waaaaay more in the musical
Also also something that blew my mind. One of Elle's sorority friends the redhead ......yeah eventually plays cassie's mom in euphoria. 'OH she needs a fucking exorcism' lady.
i love how obsessed with the musical zach is. legally blonde was my first broadway show when i was in second grade! still know and love the entire musical and has my dad pirate the MTV recording onto a dvd so i could watch it on my portable DVD player on long roadtrips
I absolutely love this movie. It showed how femininity that was usually dismissed in society is valid and wonderful. I’m visually impaired and the discussion about the title took me out 😂 this podcast is so good. Zach is such a fun guest!!
some more fun facts about Legally Blonde! Delta Nu is based on Delta Gamma, and the scenes in the sorority house was filmed at the Delta Gamma house at UCLA. Even the Delta Nu crest is the Delta Gamma crest, but with Bruiser's head in the place of the Delta Gamma cream rose (can you tell that i rushed DG directly after Legally Blonde came out?)
The MTV taping of the musical is amazing. I still watch once a year. Also shout out to the mtv competition show to pick who would be Elle woods in the traveling show
Karen and Kirstin are two the most underrated screenwriters. Even when people acknowledge how objectively good their work is there's some sort of guilty pleasure caveat attached to it. Goddamnit
My film professor repeatedly said this is the perfect film, at least in theory terms of a hollywood film. Always used it to explain fabula and syuzhet and to contrast art house film narration’s loosened cause and effect.
My all time favorite Elle Woods line is when she sees Warner for the first time in Harvard. Warner is like “You got into Harvard law?” And Elle goes “What like it’s hard?!” I get so hyped every time
The reason they couldn't use Stanford(like in the book) is because Stanford wouldn't allow filming. Insecure is the only show that got to film on Standford's campus I believe in the last 20 years.
FINALLY THANK YOU!!!! This is one of my favorite movies. The court room scene is my favorite part, I could watch that scene every day and never get bored of it. Also, PLEASE watch the legally blonde musical! It’s so, so good and very easy to find on TH-cam. Like Zach said, I think it’s better than the movie. The chemistry between Laura bell Bundy and the actor who plays Emmett is INSANE
This is so timely… I randomly thought of the MTV reality show last week and have been consuming Legally Blonde musical content nonstop ever since. Just watched the MTV recording last night!
OMG YES ZACH!!! The Sweetest Thing is one of my favorite movies of all tiiiiiiime!! I was literally thinking they have to do that movie during this episode!
You all just unlocked a core memory. I quoted the endorphins line including how happy people don't kill their husbands in health class in high school. Omg. 😅
Speaking of Owen and Luke Wilson, I think the gang would like Home Fries with the Wilson brothers and drew Barrymore, and a few other notable cast members
never forget the fact that Elle got a 179 on her LSATs. That is ONE POINT OFF OF THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE SCORE YOU CAN GET. And we see her work her ass off. There's a scene where she gets a significantly lower mark on her initial practice test and she somehow jumps that after like... maybe a few weeks study? In a field she's never even thought about joining before this. Elle is a hidden genius.
One thing I like about this movie is the scene where they argue about the sperm donor, because it shows that not only is she wasting her time trying to get back with her ex, but it subtly warns her about her teacher. Her ex makes an argument that would help a stalker get off scot-free and the teacher agreed with it.
I also went to school with Jessica Campbell! Congrats Zach, on making it out of Missouri and hope you don’t have to come back often. It sucks here lolsob
The guy in Election (1999) and the rival character with the guitar in Just Friends (2005) is Chris Klein who's most famously known as Chris Oz in the American Pie movies, along with Jennifer Coolidge. Also, I'm with the opinion of other people of suggesting "The Sweetest Thing (2002)"
she doesnt even actually ATTEND the school for him. she enrolls for him, she went to that first class for him, but after that moment where he talks down to her despite making it in to Harvard, its just a movie about a woman applying herself to FULLY PASS LAW SCHOOL to spite a man who she realized didnt respect her as a person.

“i’m a fat cat, you’re a fat kitten, and she’s stupid.” DEAD
I don't think Jennifer's character is meant to be dumb. She's shy, lacks confidence and had been spoken down on by her Verbally abusive ex. She showed the typical Abuse victim Characteristics.
She’s not stupid, she’s naive. She has the equipment and needs to read the manual, to perfect her bend and snap, but she tried. That’s smart
I made my husband watch this and in the court room scene he figures out of the reveal because his mom would get perms when he was little. I was so shocked I had to pause the movie to laugh and text everyone.
THATS SO CUTE LMAO
"I thought Kelsey was stupid, but now I'm thinking we're both stupid." 😂😂😂😂
"Reese Witherspoon's breakout role" - excuse me, the 1999 classic Cruel Intentions would like a word
What I’m saying 🤧
Yes but this was her breakout lead role. She was usually in an ensemble like Cruel Intentions or sharing a lead role like in Election.
Cruel Intentions was not NEARLY iconic enough. Reese in Legally Blonde is still relevant to the culture over 20 years after the movies release.
@@kotaniyumiko Did you just say that Cruel Intentions was not iconic enough? How DARE you?!?!?!
There is a Netflix show about decluttering where they clean up and tidy up Reese Witherspoon‘s closet and she does indeed still have the outfits.
It’s the hone edit on Netflix
Most quoted moment is “what, like it’s hard?” 💁🏼♀️
For me it’s “you have the right equipment and just need to read the manual” or “I object!”
Saying "she has her book club and production company" lightly as a passing comment is funny because it is such a brilliant business move!!! She basically has an ongoing successful book-to-movie machine because she can see the books that perform the best in book club and gets first right to make it a film at her production company! Taking notes lmao
Crazy that the writer of this wrote 10 things I hate about you , she’s the man , house bunny and Ella enchanted . What a run
I always use this movie as a example of the tightest, most succinct, easy to follow screenwriting like it’s PERFECT in every way 🙌🏻
Legally Blonde the musical deserves a watch just for Christian Borle alone
That show's original soundtrack was my introduction to Borle's Emmett and I've never been the same since 😍😍
The cheater?? Poor Sutton Foster. But yeah, he can sing pretty well.
It never occurred to me until this episode that Luke Wilson is Owen Wilson’s brother. Makes so much sense!
As a hair stylist, teenage boys are the ones getting perms nowadays
PLEASE watch Legally Blonde the Musical! I don’t care if you are not a musical person it is the best musical adaptation of a movie HANDS DOWN.
Yesss it’s so good
Totally agree!!
This is going to be controversial, I love a lot of the songs don't get me wrong, however, I think that the fact that Emmet is the reason she starts wanting to succeed in the musical makes the premise weaker than the original movie. @@fallingstars360 I understand your take! I didn’t think him helping her study took away anything from her though!
@fallingstars360 my thoughts exactly! It takes away from her badassery! I understand they wanted to give him a bigger role but they should've found another way
Zacks bend and snap helped Kelsey’s point
Rainie's iconic reaction at 26:52
Zach making me lmao "why do you hate women?" + "now she's homophobic" 😭
You should do Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen

Immediately re-download Legally Blonde the Musical to rewatch it when they mentioned it. I LOVED that shit
I absolutely love this movie. It showed how femininity that was usually dismissed in society is valid and wonderful. I’m visually impaired and the discussion about the title took me out 😂 this podcast is so good. Zach is such a fun guest!!
The legally blonde musical is my FAVORITE musical ever i know every word and song by heart
Can Zach #2 stay permanently 😁 (as an ADDITION not REPLACING ANYONE)
Reese Witherspoon was also sooooo good in Man on the Moon as a pre teen

Been waiting for this one for a while.

comedy courtroom - Liar liar, he was a lawyer afterall.
Karen and Kirstin are two the most underrated screenwriters. Even when people acknowledge how objectively good their work is there's some sort of guilty pleasure caveat attached to it. Goddamnit
Preach other Zach! That MTV version of the musical is classic! I have trouble watching the movie now without hearing the musical songs.
The Oracle... Dungeons and Dragons Zach? It's the MATRIX, CMON.
Also Jesus, all these callouts and you already noticed Selma Blair but you didn't connect Reese to Cruel Intentions?
I thought they meant the oracle of delphi 😂
You guys should go ahead and make it a "thank-you-next" Month and do "13 going on 30" and "bring it on"
My film professor repeatedly said this is the perfect film, at least in theory terms of a hollywood film. Always used it to explain fabula and syuzhet and to contrast art house film narration’s loosened cause and effect.
Can confirm, I have rewatched the musical way more than the movie. Emmett's character is WAY more interesting!
I love Zach for bringing up Carmen: the hip hopera lol & yes, I need y’all to watch the sweetest thing!
I grew up with this movie and I still think it's one of the most perfect films ever made. Now I'm going to have to watch the musical!
So nice to see ZNT and Kelsey on the episode again. Such fun! ❤
Please please please, add new merch with “We see the bend. We see the snap. Awoogaa” 😂😂😂
THANK YOU ZACH for being present to represent the genius that is the musical!! I was gonna be so sad if it wasn’t mentioned, it is inCREDIBLE
As a femme lawyer who loves pink and has watched this movie sooooo many times, I am SO glad you did this movie and gave it justice 💕
My all time favorite Elle Woods line is when she sees Warner for the first time in Harvard. Warner is like “You got into Harvard law?” And Elle goes “What like it’s hard?!” I get so hyped every time

Shocked y’all haven’t done THE SWEETEST THING. Iconic and Selma Blairs parts in the movie are hilarious.

the musical is SO GOOD
Love love love this movie choice! Would also love love love if you did Lisa Frankenstein
I always miss Garrick, but im so proud of him!
LOVE this movie! It’s so fun
Love this trio!! Fun as a Kelsey fan so see them here! Great energy as always!!
she helps everyone around her, and even though she herself is wealthy, she doesn't help anyone else with money
This is so timely… I randomly thought of the MTV reality show last week and have been consuming Legally Blonde musical content nonstop ever since. Just watched the MTV recording last night!
BEGGING the pod to do Best In Show y'all will LOVE it!!!
Well now you need to do Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
Yes pleaaaaase do THE SWEETEST THING!!!
Yeah but they need the R rated one so they get the Too Big To musical number. 🤣🤣🤣
ALSO, I agree with Zach! The musical is so good and I’d watch it over the movie, as amazing as the movie is.
I second you guys watching The Sweetest Thing! It’s so so good, hilarious and I bet Kelsey would love it!!
Legally Blonde is one of my all-time favs!! I want to rewatch it again today now 😻😻
It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve seen this film, it just gets better every damn time.
another fun fact Elle has a different hairstyle in every scene
OMG YES ZACH!!! The Sweetest Thing is one of my favorite movies of all tiiiiiiime!! I was literally thinking they have to do that movie during this episode!
You all just unlocked a core memory. I quoted the endorphins line including how happy people don't kill their husbands in health class in high school. Omg. 😅
I remember the musical!! I watched it so many times. Iconic film and musical!
Sorry I didn’t get the notification but omg this movie was a watershed moment in culture. Also, EMMETT OP
Speaking of Owen and Luke Wilson, I think the gang would like Home Fries with the Wilson brothers and drew Barrymore, and a few other notable cast members
The Sweetest Thing has become one of my new favorite movies. Such a great friendship/girlhood movie for us in our 20s💖
I thought legally blonde meant that she was a chemical blonde and she was legally blonde on her drivers license
Lmaooo

the most important thing i learned from this episode “chihuahuas are like turtles”
OMIGOD YOU GUYS THEY’RE DOING LEGALLY BLONDE
Please do an episode on Aquamarine 🌊
Underappreciated masterpiece of friendship 🩵
*Love* Aquamarine, so underrated 🩵
1 of my all time faves to watch. It is a "comfort" movie.
34:14 yes yes PLEASE do The Sweetest Thing 🙏

the "brown hair block head" was the Look for duders back then. "you got into law school?" "what, like its hard?" is a Mood
I need to hear their opinions on the musical. I LOVE THE MUSICAL!!!
I didn’t expect Zack to look like that 😊
PLEASE WATCH OBSESSED NOW THAT YOU'VE MENTIONED ALI LARTER AND BEYONCE. THAT WAS SUCH A FILM LOL
Reminding y'all that THE SWEETEST THING MUST STILL HAPPEN BECAUSE IT'S INSANE
love the musical! the soundtrack is so good
17:55 100% Chris Klein from American Pie
ZNT had to move seats because he & Kelsey are partying too much like 3rd graders 😂😂😂😂
14:13 she’s the trademark fat funny friend
There’s also a version of the movie with several extended scenes that didn’t make the cinema version!
Omg no end quote to close the episode… LIKE ITS HARD
Zach is honestly right. Legally Blonde the musical is better than the movie, any day!
Can not fucking WAIT for the sweetest thing!!!❤
YES Sweetest Thing! so bad and so good!
my favourite musical is Legally Blonde!
it's even better than the movie. it's on youtube so go watch it!!!
I absolutely recommend reading the book, I loved it as a kid, but the film is more feel good
ZACHARY. Reese had starring rolls in Cruel Intentions and The Election wayyyy before Legally Blonde
we need a reaction of legally blonde the musical
