See, everyone talks about Blur; Oasis; Pulp; Suede but for me Supergrass defined the British music scene in the 90's, totally original and an outstanding live act, totally underrated IMO...
Blur turned out to be great in my opinion. I loved the weird directions they ended up taking, but yeah, Supergrass were rocking right from the word go. That tune Time on I Should Coco, for example sounds like it was played by fellas a lot older than 19 or whatever age they were when they first emerged.
If OASIS were the Beatles of the 90s and BLUR were the Stones of the 90s then SUPERGRASS are the WHO of the 90s! Can't wait for Leeds in a couple of weeks...
Gaz is the reason I grew, I still have side burns! Saw Supergrass playing back in the day, and Gaz play solo in 2015.Will always be one of favourite bands!
Why are roughcoatrd lurchers more popular? I mean I remember that. Like a beddie cross would littley fly through the window at the time rescue. It's just fashion tho I think. And personal preference. Alot of the breeding is relative to the ground you are working
They did. They were only allowed so much change as long as the "industry" was concerned. Trust me ...most my friends in Oklahoma KNEW who Supergrass were! Especially musicians
I can remember when I first heard them. It was 1996 and I was in a record store in Chicago and the owner was playing their first album. I couldn't believe it had just been released. Buzzcocks, the Jam and the Who all in one, yet unaffected and originally performed by such young talented lads. Never interested in running a useless race, Supergrass continued to make great music long after the fever of Brit Pop waned.
I was 12 when this came out and loved SuperGrass as a kid, listening ti their songs now makes me both cry and sing along as filled with memories of fun, carefree times back when my beloved dad was still alive😢
Just keep loving him and enjoy every moment as much as you can. It's the best way to honor the ones who have left. I am truly sorry for your loss and I send all the best. Sincerely.
1997 Big Day Out. Auckland NZ. Supergrass came on around 2.30 in the afternoon and started with this ripper . Pretty much turned the BDO on it's head and blew the crowd off our feet. Needless to say I didn't see my 2 mates til midnight back at the car when it was all over😁😁 Cheers boys🍻🍻
Incredible! Sounds even better than it ever did! For me after much thinking and listening I've decided Supergrass are the best band of the nineties. (It's just my personal opinion)
This came out when I was 10. I already liked Supergrass but I was so obsessed with this song. I liked the organ, the horns, the catchiness and simplicity of the lyrics..just a great song.
Without question definitely influence by the Beatles. Even the drummer with his hat and the way they take a few of the shots. And this is definitely not an insult towards supergrass but a compliment that they would mimic and be influenced by the Beatles. Great song great video nice job boys.
This track also shows how much Supergrass seems to descend from the edgiest psychedelic pieces by Kevin Ayers and other musicians from the extended Ayers univers (including Syd Barret)

Love love love this track. When it came out I looked like they do in the vid! I was 26 but could pass for 19. Real life was still round the corner and this track, with the great Hammond and guitar lines just blew me lid. Thanks guys. You were a great band and captured a very special time in my life perfectly. Ran into Gaz at around the time on the street. Just thought, genuinely, there's somebody I know, a mate. He was with some gorgeous bird mind you. He handled it well. It was only later I realised. Best of luck to all of you.
Danny and Supergrass played at the Taylor hawkins tribute show. Hawkins loved the band and loved how Danny played, saying he played the kit as a piano player would, not as a drummer. Praise indeed!
Even when I was a Pop-music-only kid, I oddly liked this rock song+video a couple of times I viewed it; two years later growing up I bumped into a band called Oasis, stuck around, got into 1997 Britpop scene & was a proper rock fan by 1998. Cheers from India.
True, but only because they didn't want to be huge, they chose not to sell themselves with marketing and money, they didn't want to lose focus. Ultimately it didn't matter how big they were, they produced brilliant music for almost 20 years and that will always be valuable to me.
I found their CD "In it for the Money" in Beijing as a 'waste cut out CD' back in the late 90's. I still have it. The cut went into the disc about 1/4" but the didn't touch any of the tracks so it still plays fine. I took a chance on it because I liked the cover and it was (of course) cheap.
There was a long time I didn't hear their music (I didn't forget them, bof course!)... And I realize how I was wrong! It's soung cooler than in the past! :o When I hear them again, I realise how many good songs they have written.
Great songs! I actually like to sing'em. Gaz's voice is the best. So clean and clear. If you want to go out( the song). The harmonies make the perfect song. Great instrumentals too. =)
Never liked their first hit "We're alright.", but I've always loved this one. Great drumming also! One of my favourite 90's songs, which sadly doesn't get enough AirPlay on the radio these days.
They are kinda forgotten, which is annoying. I love three of their songs (which is more than I can say for many other bands); sun hits the sky, this one and pumping on your stereo. I'm sure if I listened to their albums I'd find more to like. I'd completely forgotten about them myself. It's only because I've been on a 90s binge listening to Ocean Colour Scene, Blur, Kula Shaker and Suede did they eventually show up in the related section.
I like how video looks a lot like a mix of The Beatles' "Paperback Writer" and "Strawberry Fields Foverer" videos. The song is definitely influenced by them as well, so it's a nice nod :)
This video always reminded me of the Queen vids for "We Will Rock You" and "Spread Your Wings", which were filmed in similar wintry conditions! Great track, love the drumming :)
This must be the greatest Beatles song that the Beatles didn't write. Masterpiece
Beatles sound, haircuts, a couple look like a younger Sir Paul and even the video is a similar vibe to the Beatles promo films from 1966/67.
its a great song on its own terms.
But the fact you compare it to the Beatles is a nice thing, so thankyou on behalf of everyone.
Yeah...very Beatlesque and brilliant. 💜💚💜💚💜
the drummer looks like Ringo somewhat
I came here to say this.
See, everyone talks about Blur; Oasis; Pulp; Suede but for me Supergrass defined the British music scene in the 90's, totally original and an outstanding live act, totally underrated IMO...

@MusicalElitist1 I imagine Mickey was the one who encouraged their musical maturity in that case.
@MusicalElitist1 OCS and The Verve for me
Blur, Supergrass and Kula Shaker were the great ones. Pulp and OCS were good. The rest were a bit bland for me.
If OASIS were the Beatles of the 90s and BLUR were the Stones of the 90s then SUPERGRASS are the WHO of the 90s! Can't wait for Leeds in a couple of weeks...
What i wouldn't give to go back to the nineties.
Agreed
fuck yeah
Supergrass did their own thing... This is why their music is timeless.
sadly, you can say it this way too: this is why their music is forgotten.
@@FlickanIDetKroktaRummet Not by us, the fans. I bought the album in ´97 by chance and immediately loved them.
@@AlfaGiuliaQV always be a fan they are awesome xxxxx

Very Beatles vibe though, in sounds and the video. So yeah they did their own thing by giving homage to some of the greatest 60's tunes.
One of the most under-rated bands ever!!
Really
So good
🤓😎 not by me
They remind me of the Kinks.
Great band
Supergrass were totally underated
Tasty looking four leg

It's just fashion tho I think. And personal preference.
Alot of the breeding is relative to the ground you are working
I think Doris was bred to hunt squirrels up trees and low flying aircraft
Totally!
This encapsulates that era in British music perfectly, great melodies, upbeat confidence, a nostalgia for the 60s. Great track.
Their music has aged like fine wine
The 90's were the greatest decade since the 60's.
you mean the 80s
70s and 80s were pretty good too.
It was regarding rock bands yes.. But the 70s was good for rock.. 80s was a good decade for music though.
The 1970's was pretty rad, it had the mainstream rise of funk, reggae, and punk.
The 90's were culturally closer in spirit and vibe to the 60's than today.
When this first came out I thought these guys were gonna change the world. They still did for some people.
They did. They were only allowed so much change as long as the "industry" was concerned. Trust me ...most my friends in Oklahoma KNEW who Supergrass were! Especially musicians
I paid little attention to Oasis and Blur. Supergrass was the one I thought needed to be watched and listened to. The most talent was there.
The best British single of the 90s.
You're twisting my melon man.
Very beatle esque
Agree awesome single xxx
The fact you mentioned Oasis says that you are a numbskull tosser

This video is perfect. Captures the spirit of the band and the song perfectly.
I miss those pointless Brittish winter days.

There's still plenty of pointless Brittish winter days about.

They were awesome in Australia Big Day Out. Amazing.
Great band. They do it their own way and didn't compare themselves to any other group
An absolute homage to 60s brit music.❤

Ridiculously underrated band!

This has to be one of the very best of the nineties. Absolute knockout tracks. AWESOME!
Man...Danny really knocked it outta the park with the drumming on this one didnt he!
2:36 that 5 second build up is so good, i just love how full the song sounds, the horns, guitars and the drums are all perfectly mixed for the style
i love this song so much. what an album in it for the money was.
the end of the song where gaz pulls his guitar out of them amp. is a brilliant touch

Bit like Keith Moon, yeah? Thought that when it came out.
Danny and Supergrass played at the Taylor hawkins tribute show. Hawkins loved the band and loved how Danny played, saying he played the kit as a piano player would, not as a drummer. Praise indeed!
This song is a dig at the drummer Danny for his A-list celebrity lifestyle and being pictured in the papers
Is that so? That's interesting.
