      Wow thanks, I’m honored. It’s been a challenging build for sure with our share of setbacks, but fun at the same time to start seeing the fruits of our labor. Thanks for following along and for your encouragement!

      Thanks for following. As you know, it’s a big task to manage a pond. I’m working on more update videos. Sorry for the delay…life’s been busy. Let me know if there are certain topics you’re more interested in seeing. I hope to have an overall update from the past couple months of what’s been happening on the pond as my next one. Thanks again for commenting and watching!

    Thanks for sharing all of your learnings. Your videos are so thoughtful and interesting!
    On tadpoles, I suspect that they don’t taste good and are a food of last resort.
    On those skinny walleye - I wonder if it helps, hurts, or is of inefficient and nominal value to do a fathead supplementation. I’d guess that it preserves some number of YOY of the other species, and adds some helpful winter fat to walleyes. But maybe it’s 10 # and $100 in, in return for like 3 oz on a few predators and maybe they just help the bass. Hard to know. Our predators are a little skinny and YOY scarce so although we supplement with fish food, I’ve also considered another dump of minnows to add some supplemental food for our fish. Maybe not worth it. 🤷‍♂️

      Thanks for the recommendation and encouragement. More forage couldn’t hurt I’m sure. I’ve seen multiple hatches this summer of our 50# initial stocking of fatheads in the shallows. So I’m curious how many of those fry recruit to breeding size before being consumed by predators. I could do a supplemental fathead and shiner stocking this fall to keep the forage options strong. Too bad the tadpoles don’t taste better! 😂 They’re abundant, and maybe more importantly, FREE! I didn’t pay or ask for them….they just showed up! That begs the question….do tadpoles become tastier as they become frogs? Bass seem to like em as 🐸! Thanks for watching and your advice.

      @goodyfinnndad ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@newnatureadventures I think they DO become tastier as they get bigger. Case in point: frog legs are available on menus but tadpoles aren’t! 😄

    Glad to see the Walleye are doing well. Gets me excited to hear back from the fishery to see if they have the size fish I'm wanting to order. Hoping to stock 50 6-8 inch Walleye in our lake this fall, among other fish.

      Thanks….yeah, now’s the time to get those fish stocked. It turned cool here this week, and water temps are in the mid 60s. Fisheries should be getting their fish shortly. Let me know how it goes!

      @@newnatureadventures Just waiting for them to call me back, hopefully this week. How many more walleye are you planning to stock? Also how are your hybrid bass doing? Haven't seen any updates on them.

      @@redneckmini14 I’m planning 25 6-8” if I can get that size. If not, I may go with 50 smaller size. The HSB…good question…I can’t say that I’ve seen any yet. Not on camera or on the surface that I can confidently say are HSB. I have a number of large golden shiners 7-8” that I have thought are HSB, but after closer look…nope. I’ll share when I find them.

      @@newnatureadventures I just heard back from my local fishery today, and they actually recommended that I stock my hybrid striped bass in the spring. They said that they don't do as well as other fish when transitioning in colder water and that their survival rate would be lower if stocked at this time of the year, so they offered to come back in the spring to stock them. I just thought I would share this with you since you say you haven't seen any of yours yet. I hope they didn't all die off on you, but that conversation I had with them today got me thinking about your pond and fish. Other than that, I will be getting my walleye and yellow perch on Friday. I'm super excited.

    Do you think those walleye will be able to reproduce eventually?

    • @newnatureadventures
      @newnatureadventures  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is my goal and hope. We’ve invested an unreasonable amount of energy and money in building a waterfall to generate the moving water to create the environment that would support walleye reproduction. It would be far cheaper to just stock walleye fingerlings every year…but what fun is that. I believe they will spawn, and the eggs will hatch…..the question remains if they will be able to recruit naturally to adult sizes before being preyed on during their fry stage by other predators in the pond. This is one big experiment….so follow along on the channel and I’ll share our findings. Thanks for watching!

    How big is the lake? Was thinking of adding walleye as a novelty catch in a 2 acre pond if they’d grow to any size.

    • @newnatureadventures
      @newnatureadventures  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Our lake is only ~1 acre. My hope is that I can grow ours to 18-20”….which would be perfect eaters. I have a buddy who has about a 2 acre who put 50 in about 3 years ago and has caught a couple in the 16-17” range. Anything over 20” would be gravy in my pond. But we’ll see. That’s the fun part. Go ahead and try. They aren’t that expensive. Just know that whatever you have for predators in your pond now will look at a 5” walleye fingerling as a snack. Consider the size of your established predators and stock walleye size accordingly.

    I have seen mine take tadpoles a few times. What I've seen destroyed in the shallows are the newly turned froglets. In the evening i have a couple spots i call the killing fields 😆 im glad to see your yelliw perch spawned. Youve got a similar build to myself. I started four types of minnows, two siner species and Georgia Giant Bluegill in spring. Stocked my other species in october 23. I had a ton of forage fish in fall. The population is definitely down as we approach spring. Im hoping to see some breeding.

    • @newnatureadventures
      @newnatureadventures  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the comment. I’m hopeful that some of the “froglets” get consumed. I likely have too many smallmouth bass in the pond long term. I’m hoping they’ll put a dent in these green frog tadpoles as they transition to frogs. I didn’t realize they took 1-2 years to become frogs. That’s a cool pond you’ve got going on with lots of forage. I would think you’ll have some good reproduction come spring. I witnessed multiple size fry last year throughout the summer around the pond indicating multiple hatches.

      @@newnatureadventures I've seen multiple ages of fry as well through the summer. Depending on species 3-4 flushes. I'm in central Indiana and we've had a week of unseasonably warm weather. I decided to take a pole out to get an idea of growth. I caught a 5-6 inch Redear, 7-8 inch black crappie but the surprise was a very large shiner of some type I believe. I'm not to sure if it was a golden, silver or common shiner. It was so large initially I thought it was a yellow perch or walleye. It was ,8-9 inches. They were only 2-3.5 inches in October. I couldn't believe it I wasn't aware they got that large honestly.

      I've got to rework my outlet. My pond stays at a constant depth but an influx of hydrostatic makes it rise. I've got a 15 inch and 8 inch inlet but my outlet is two 8 inch. Under normal days it isn't a problem but on a wet year it would be. I also think when I finish my big this spring I'm going to take a couple more inches out of my intake bay channel.

      @@johncoaleii1423 Wow….that’s a big shiner….I wasn’t sure how big they can get either. But hopefully that means they produce more eggs! We’ve been unseasonably warm here too, but we still have a layer of unsafe ice in the pond. Kinda frustrating I can’t get out on it more. Been a weird weather winter. I witnessed shiners last year feeding on pellet food from the feeder. They were growing pretty big as well. I don’t quite think 8” though. You’ll have a little more growing season in Indiana I think. Cool that you got out already in mid February!
