- Emperor penguins check out the humans... I'm no BBC cameraman but took a few minutes from my 2am photoshoot to capture this short video of the colony. As you can see, the Emperors are very curious & friendly... Enjoy.

Penguins have a special gland that filters salt out of their bloodstream, allowing them to gulp down mouthfuls of seawater while swimming. The salty brine is then pumped out of their nostrils, giving them a constant case of the sniffles and causing them to shake their heads a lot.

I love how we never stop and consider just how weird penguins are as animals and especially birds. The first person to see one must've been so confused.
oh trust me, as much as I love and adore penguins, they're one of the strangest things I've ever seen. that and kangaroos. but for some reason to me, I can't fathom how dragons make more sense as an animal than penguins and kangaroos.

@lambsauce8937 Compared to other flightless birds they are weird. All other flightless birds retain long legs and necks, making them look like therapod dinosaurs. Penguins have the complete opposite, having short legs and necks while also having an upright posture unique to them, much more similar to humans than birds.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are lost in thought. Some penguins have managed to figure out how camera lenses work, and there's the emperor in Japan who adopted a family, knows the route to the fish store, and understands the routine of buying fish for the family. They're incredibly intelligent, graceful and gentle creatures.

If someone is coming upstairs, I can tell who is coming up just by the sound of the footsteps. This example works the same when Penguins are looking for their chicks or when they're finding their mate. Sure to us they emit the same sounds but to the penguins every sound is differently unique that only their mate or chick can recognise.

They know each other by scent, or sometimes specific calls. Like Dolphins how they actually have “names”, very specific clicks, chirps and whistles for each individual.

I like how ridiculous the babies look when they fall asleep standing up. Their head is just hanging upside down and their neck is twisted up, but they're totally comfortable in that position somehow.

Most bird necks are way longer than other animals but that can be their downfall, more neck vertebrae that's at risk to being damaged and if you got hollow bones ur extra toast

Penguins are my favorite bird. I especially love Emperors because of their height and how they work together in these huge numbers to accomplish any task.

Well there are few penguin predators.
For example:Leopard Seal,Killer Whale,Polar Bears,Sharks,The Orca and etc.

Wandering Dude No, when the video was shot in Antarctica, it was 2 am. Normally, at 2 am, the sky is supposed to be dark, but in the video we see it’s not. That’s what OP meant. It’s hard to believe this was shot in the middle of the night because the sky is bright blue.

I love the Emperors, way way back a couple of mates and I travelled by dog sled from Mawson base to Auster rookery in late Spring, the chick's were still young but starting to creche. The rookery is hemmed in by huge icebergs. My favourite photo from the year is of two adults facing one another, each with chick on feet. Emperors are so graceful and splendid, I have very fond memories of them.
Not sure what I was expecting in terms of "penguin sounds" ... but this sure wasn't it!
Would love to take a trip here someday. :)
