this verse is one of the verses im holding on.. Like Paul, i have a thorn in my flesh., The more deeper I study the word of God, the more closer i am becoming to the Lord, the stronger this thorn in my flesh trying to pull me back. Im having a battle in temptation everyday! This is my weakness. But thru this weakness, it strengthens my faith, for whenever temptation comes, i pray and pray and pray..

My addiction to nicotine is genuinely the worst thorn that I cannot remove. I have to hold onto this verse because I feel like I get no response when asking God to free me from it. It's very disheartening. I feel as if the accuser is telling me that I am not saved every single day because of it. I don't wish to be defeated nor do I wish to die in my sin. Thank God for grace. I deserve it not.

@@TheQweerdeer00 do not feel bad facing the difficulty of trying to remove your addiction. God knows how difficult its gonna be. Trust in the Lord, for His grace is new every morning. Surely it will take time for you to remove that addiction, and God knows it. Depend and rely on the love of the Lord. He understand what you’re going through, and He forgives you ❤️🙏🏻 God bless you

@@gracedtoserve222 Yes our God is faithful. His WORD says in 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
So us Christ followers, we should pray without ceasing as God knows our every weakness. We should be joyful in the Lord.

I Like David's explanation. I thought the same thing. Scripture confirms Scripture. In the parable of the sower, Mat 13:22 says, Some seeds fell among the thorns, (worries of this life and decietfulness of wealth). Perhaps Paul's irritations were caused by people who opposed his doctrine eg Gal 1:6-9. Neh 6:11-13, records that someone had been hired to tell Nehemiah of plans to kill him. HE realized this was intimidation designed to make him commit a sin, (God hasn't given us a spirit of fear) which would have given him a bad name and discredited him before the people.

I just read it in the NLT and came to the same conclusion! It’s almost like when God said “my grace is sufficient and my power works best in your weakness” it’s almost like he is saying to Paul you are no different, you know how to use my power. Thanks for the confirmation!!!

Thank you, David, for explaining that Paul's "thorn in the flesh" was only a figure of speech similar to someone being a "pain in the neck." Neither one refers to a sickness or disease in someone's body. In the same way, Paul was not asking the Lord for healing when he asked that it, the messenger or angel of Satan might depart from him. The reason the Lord didn't is that He never promises to remove Satan or his angels, but promises to give us the grace to overcome the enemy and triumph over him. We can see this in Ephesians chapter six!

I always have experienced that having Greek and Hebrew scholars integrated in the Bible is a significant help for making the Bible so much more relevant and interesting to me. Because of Yancy and Stanford who are Greek and Hebrew scholars in my NIV bible it motivated me big time to read the entire bible. Kjv never did that for me. God bless all of u here.

The phrase "thorn in the flesh" continues to be used as a metaphor for "a source of continual annoyance or trouble." It is synonymous with the phrase "thorn in the side," which is also of biblical origin, based on the description in Numbers 33:55.

I have often wondered the same thing. As a recovered sugar addict, I did a lot of work but I was praying constantly and seeking help from God. Funny enough, I developed food allergies right when I started recovering from food addiction. I can say that I prayed for both to go away for a while and then for years daily asked God for wisdom. I still have to be mindful of what I'm eating, how much, and why I'm eating it. I did have to do a 12 step program but I'm no longer attending. I'm just thankful that sugar doesn't control my life.

Thank you for sharing that. I have also heard and believe when God said my grace is sufficient for you He was telling Paul you take authority over it. You get rid of it. Jesus gave us power over the devil. We need to lean who He is in us for greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world. Praise God

    • @davidzion5031
      @davidzion5031 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Sheila Eagy that sounds so true because to not heal it almost seems like the word is lying, especially in the promises of healing in the book of Deuteronomy. God is clear on what we have to do to get full healing or suffer the curses. And with him giving us authority over serpents and demons, we should by faith and obedience be able to overcome. In Daniel 10 Gabriel needed the help of archangel Michael to fight the evil prince of Persia who then called a evil king of Persia. So that would seem that since the angels are a level above us, and God dispatches the angels to help mankind fight in the spirit, any evil spirit we cant defeat with the word and angelic help then it can be done with Christ’s authority. But our faith and walk has to line up exactly how God expects. Cause he said nothing is impossible thru him. (Mind racing as I’m trying to figure this out lol, hope I was clear)

    Spot on interepretation. Thank you!!
i have also read the thorn was not so much to keep Paul "humble" but that rather that he would not be exalted in the 'eyes of others' as some kind of special servant of God. It was for the benefit of other believers and non-believers to see that Paul was no different than them. This makes more sense to me than the traditional interperation. Which basically suggests God revealed all these things to him, and then in effect 'puinished' him for not being humble enough. That doesn't seem like something that makes sense or something God would do.

Thorn is a general term denoting negative. When Paul referred to thorn in the flesh, it can still be considered a physical ailment. As you say, Paul referred to it as a messenger of satan. We know from the gospels that physical ailments were often associated with affliction from satan.
While it is good that people seek healing from God, God will not always heal for whatever reason he determines. Note that Paul, who was utilized by God for a lot of healings including raising from the dead, also advised Timothy to take some wine for his frequent ailments. This illustrates that while God heals, he does not heal everyone all of the time even if they ask for it.

Being schizophrenic I relate to Paul because I also feel I have a thorn in the form of voices. They can be very critical and hurtful but also they do not allow me to stray from the path. Were I to try or even consider it I would be tormented. So I wonder if Paul had a similar thorn.

Pail spoke of strongholds of the mind. How we are ti take them captive.
I believe it was a strong hold that would speak on behalf of a demon to cause a grandiose spirit. Paul understood how pride and arrogance is dealt with by God.
When you're constantly having to defend yourself and on the other hand know of God coming to your defense in great and mighty ways it could be easy to slop into pride. We witness it in the rise and fall of some evangelists.

Paul’s thorn in the flesh? It was obvious that Paul was persecuted by Satan messengers because of Pauls powerful ministry and revelation. . We are not redeemed from persecutions in this world as the godly man will receive persecution. 2 Timothy 3:12. But it wasn’t sickness or disease but persecution

Hi David, I am sure you know that the original text didn't have chapters/verses. Start reading the 11th chapter, which leads up to and flows into the subject. Paul mentions his sufferings several times, eg 1Cor 4:11+, Col 1:24, Gal 6:17, 2 Tim 3 & 4, and the profound exclamation in Phil 3:10&11. Read oall of this together with God's calling on Paul's life in Acts 9:16. It ltroubles me to see so many people reading something into the Bible or speculating, as you have rightly shown about this simple topic, while it should never have been neccessary.
May God bless you and your ministry

David, another thought - Mat 12:43-45; When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
I wonder if the thorn in the flesh is varied for all of us… and is somehow related to the unclean spirit that was cast out of us when Jesus Christ baptized us with his Holy Spirit (when we were born again, and the Spirit of Christ took up residency in us). The difference between us and those who are not regenerated (born from above) is that the unclean spirit will not enter back into us who are continuing in the faith. But I wonder if that is the source of the thorn… namely, that unclean spirit that was cast out of us can trouble us and tempt us to give into our flesh (thinking of my own life and my struggles at times). I think at times…”who better knows the lay of the land” in my former life, than the unclean spirit that was cast out of me. Just a thought, so take it with a grain of salt and prayer.

But off the top of my head he was single, grew up and traveled in a highly sexual area, and spoke against sexual immorality a lot.

Thank you for the video. And you know there do seem to be demonic messages that enter my mind. There have been running themes all my life. However, what I find interesting is when family, friends, co-workers, and people I know tell me the same messages. Usually coming from people I don't trust all that much, so I never tell them about the message. Likewise, there are Godly messages that enter my mind, and sometimes they are confirmed by family, friends, and co-workers that I can trust without them having knowledge. So watching this video, those messages make a lot more sense with that scripture.

God did not say He is not going to heal Paul. You were mistaken. God said His Grace is enough to heal him, and he has to have faith in God. Paul has taught us ,and we should be better than Paul otherwise you and I learn nothing on Paul's teachings. Whether it was a disease or a sickness ,whichever, it is from Satan worst than Diseases and sickness. Paul stated the reasons. The main point is ,Paul needed to be humble and case closed ,healed and got well.

Jonathan Grandt or possibly a person who reminded him of his past and disobedience. Other thorns in the flesh in th OT were there because of disobedience.

It is important to know what the thorn was. He says it was a messenger of Satan. So it pertains to a message (thoughts) that Satan tries to derail his ministry with.
Now to understand what it was, we need to look at passages in scripture that speak of a thorn and of messengers of Satan. Regarding the thorn, we find in Numbers 33:55 that a thorn would be left in Israel if they fail to drive out all the inhabitants. Spiritually speaking than, it has to do with a sin that we struggle to overcome. This is made clear by way of a passage in the non canonical writing known as the Shepherd of Hermas. For it tells us that every person hears from two angels. The angel of righteousness speaks into our one ear while the angel of unrighteousness speaks into the other. So the thorn in his carnal mind/flesh is the angel of unrighteousness and his attempt to get Paul to commit a grievous sin. This notion is backed up by another statement of Paul's when he says in Romans 7:15-20 that he is a slave to sin and does what he does not want to do and doesn't do what he wants to do. He says that he does do what he hates.
The thorn, therefore, is a sin that he has difficulty over coming. So what was this sin? Well, it is pretty clear that it was the sin of homosexuality. In essence, we see that Paul had no regard for women due to his homosexual desires. This is why he kept women under the thumb of men and why he never married.

I agree that Paul's thorn was not a sickness. BUT, you're going to have a much harder time explaining away Galatians 4:13-14 where Paul specifically says he has a bodily illness. Paul writes, "But you know that it was because of a BODILY ILLNESS that I came and preached the Gospel to you the first time; and that which was a trial to you in my BODILY CONDITION you did not despise or loathe, but you received me as an angel of god, even as Christ Jesus himself." Can't get around that one. And, I might observe, you are wearing glasses so you are not in perfect health either.

Tia where do you get that from! There is no where it says it was an evil spirit living inside paul. A messenger of satan, means sent by satan, meaning those pple troubling paul where send by satan. The thorns in the flesh it was an outside attack, an irritation, enemies of the gospel, critics etc how do I know that! Thorns in the flesh, Paul used the phrase because it was a Hebrew idiom that referred to Israel’s neighbors who were a constant source of irritation (Ezekiel 28:24). paul was not the first one to use that idiom. If you look on the the verses in the Hebrew bible there is where it refers to a disease or an evil spirit. Thank you!

I know what the thorn in the flesh is . I have had it for a long time. I do not expect most people to accept that I know it or to believe anything I say. The reason someone has it is because they have received surpassing great revelations from God. The thorn truly does come from a messenger of satan and these messengers are not known by most as messengers of satan.. they are praised as wise men of God and scholars of the bible.

David Servant .... Paul's thorn in the flesh was he was God in the flesh! What God creates God destroys! God gave specific dietary laws and his Sabbath .... 2 Colossians 16 Paul abolishes the TRUE Sabbath and the dietary Laws from the Constitution Written in Heaven! His thorn in his side may have been JeZEUS was muscling in on Paul's territory! Butt, we ALL know pope (inc) is god in the flesh! It infers so itself!
