I think it's underrated to look at really bad maps and come to your own conclusions as a dev through playing or building them to understand and avoid their flaws.

HEY make sure to add invisible ramps to your stairs to make climbing them as smooth as possible

@ronniemcnuttgaming959Yeah, we should just mash the space bar a million times instead. Bonus points for hitting your head on the 2-block-tall ceiling on the way down to bedrock.

@MethOverdose2001 i might be a dumbass but explain why?
wouldn't a simpler collider equal better performance, assuming there is alot of spaces?
or is this sarcastic and i'm a dumbass

What if you wanted your game to have a certain game’s graphics. How would you do that by coping files?

good video but i don't think using multiplayer maps for singleplayer is a good idea. Multiplayer maps have to be balanced for both sides, but in singleplayer, you have much more freedom to craft the expierience.

CoD is not a good reference point for a "Good" FPS map, unless you're going for something really specific. Especially the CoD4-BO2 era. They do one thing extremely well (ultra-casual, easily accessible) but it's awful for everything else, because they break a lot of 'good' game design rules to achieve their goals.
If you want a shooter that's; Competitive (Counter-Strike, R6 Siege), Class-based (Overwatch, Valorant), Arena (Quake, Unreal Tournament), Tactical (Ready or Not), or "standard" (older Halo, Battlefield titles) it will ruin your game.
Where CoD succeeds is that it throws balance and game design theory out of the window, to allow players of all skill levels to enjoy themselves by having plenty of opportunities to get easy kills. An example of how they do this with map design is the fact that they're incredibly non-linear and chaotic, which enables a lot of ambush kills. Constant exposure to 5+ angles of attack through lack of cover and an overabundance of windows, doorways, multiple floor buildings, and open pathways. No "loops", lanes, or pathing flow. No structure or consistency. Video said there was 3 lanes, but there really isn't, because building interiors count as well, especially when you can shoot out of them. So it's completely freeform.
It leads to a lot of randomness and uncontrolled variables, which is the enemy of "proper" game design. For most things, you want to eliminate that as much as possible. However it's really good ultra-casual gaming because it compresses skill difference by drastically reducing skill-based gameplay, so anybody can pick it up and feel happy by the end of the match because they managed to at least get a few kills. Or they can blame bad performances on bad luck, since there's no consistency, which forces people to face the reality that they need to improve if they don't do well.
