I want to thank you for this very well-made video. I needed to know more about the transport to and within the IOW, and you answered most of my questions. Well done!❤
In a similar position trying to cross a very rough Bay of Biscay on a cruise ferry. Told at check in sailing would be very rough and offered a free transfer. Had already out car in long term car park and thought they wouldn’t sail if it wasn’t safe. We had to hug the coast of France rather than go across the Bay of Biscay so took 7 hours longer. We would have had 7 hours ashore but on arrival captain said he’d give us 5 hours ashore for a break before heading home. Was very bumpy and some people were sick.
My partner took me for a weekend in Ryde last year where we stayed in a hotel on the seafront. We went for a walk and saw the hovercraft parked up so next day we went on the hovercraft from Ryde over to Southsea and back to Ryde. It was an amazing experience! In East Kent where I have lived for 14 years now we discovered the derelict site where the hovercraft travelled between Pegwell bay and France back in the 80s. So sad this mode of travel here in Kent did not survive over ferries.
Blimey, two hours just to get to the ferry, eh? As a Londoner myself, just going from London to Portsmouth alone would be a day out in itself from the sound of it. I'm sure I'd be too knackered to do the Isle of Wight after that 🤣. Seriously, though, thanks for the video and I probably will give it a whirl one day, well, either the Isle of Wight or at least Portsmouth.
1h 10 to Southampton and then 25 min on the red jet, takes just over 2 hours to go the Island (to Cowes) . I think he wanted to see a bit of Portsmouth first.
I’m 11 years old. Last Week my dad drove us 4 hours from Leicestershire to Portsmouth, then we had another almost one hour of ferry and driving to hotel I love IOW
I don’t really know if you can hire a boat. If your wanting to cross in your own boat you would need to be experienced, it’s quite busy and not always calm
Great that you showed us how to get there and all the beautiful sweet Places ! Thank you

They got the stopping service. It usually takes 1:20 mins then 1 min walk to the wightlink boat.
