These major printer brands came up with these ink tank printers only because for several years prior many third party modders came up with this idea. They would attach several ink tanks (albeit a bit awkwardly) to the side of the printer and the heads would draw ink directly from those tanks. If it weren't for those modders we'd still be stuck with those ink cartridges that cost way too much. Whatever excuse the printer makers had back then to justify the price of ink cartridges, these ink tank printers PROVE that they've been feeding us a lot of BS all these years.
Also known as a “CISS system.” Yes, the new scam is chipped maintenance cartridges. Technically, these waste ink pads should be easily user washable and replaceable, but software in Canon, Epson, HP, and other printers disable the device until the maintenance box is replaced with a new one and a fresh chip. Not to mention most printers’ irreplaceable printheads. The newer Canon G-series (3260, etc.) allow users to self-replace the printheads - 2 of them (black and color) that are around $30 each.
There are proprietary use restrictions on most brands of cartridges these days, however. Canons are the sole survivor of the ciss revolution and it is better to set up your own Canon printer w/ciss or merely refill cartridges, or do a BCH mod, or insert Pop Carts and refill those, than buy an ink tank printer. The thing everyone is ignoring with ink jets is clogging. CLOGGING!! is the elephant in the room. You need a printhead that is easily accessible for cleaning with distilled water. The lids pop off those Cannon cartridges easily and they are easy to clean and re-use. Epsons ink tanks print heads are exceptionally hard to get to so I wouldn't buy one of those. This reviewer isn't even addressing this problem so this review is nearly worthless
Good day, I just have a query about HP ink tank. What is the process of waste ink collection of this printer? Unlike Canon, Epson or Brother, they have a maintenance cartridge or waste ink box that collects the waste ink once they perform head cleaning. And what is the advantage of this to other brands? Thanks for the reply. More power

No, you never need to reset the absorber in all HP inkjet printers except the HP PageWides. But after you make a bulk printing-task there may be some waste ink below the printer and make contamination.
Sharing is caring: Bought HP printer and had multiple quality issues. I regret buying HP printer. Their aftersales support is just HORRIBLE! Their customer support is very slow to respond and just gives copy and pasted answers without even reading customer's reply. For those planning to buy, do yourself a favor: buy a better quality printer. HP printer is simply NOT worth your hard-earned money.
I need adivice about the print autonomy. I own the smart tank 7005. Do you think 12000 pages is too much for someone that may not use the printer for one or two months sometimes? Maybe just 400 or 800 pages of autonomy is enough?
Could you do an hp 9015 vs the hp tank plus 651? I have a home based business I print a lot of black and white docs but I also print color for stickers and for my child care! Knowing that Ink is expensive is the smart choice getting the 651? I also print double sided and scan 10+ documents Thank you IAV!!
I bought the Costco version of the 9015 last summer or spring and have been very happy with it except for the ink cost. The good part is there are excellent aftermarket ink refill kits for them much cheaper and you just need two sets of cartridges to refill and keep swapping out. I liked it enough I found a used excellent condition 9025 to get the upgraded features and speed. It has dual paper trays and prints faster but uses the same cartridges as the 9015 and the same print heads. They can get expensive but they sure print nice right out of the box. I paid like 169 for the 9018, and the excellent used 9025 was 100 with local pickup, I got really lucky on that one and the ink was full.
Not informative enough regarding long term performance. Ie the cheaper Epson Eco- tank printers are reputed to have an error code appear after so many printing cycles that advises printing stopped and not available because the waste ink pad is full and needs replacement but it only can be reset after replacement of the pad if the printer is returned to an Epson service centre.
Man, I was with you until you recommended Epson. That's the brand I'm currently getting rid of. Will never buy again. My purchase of the WF-7720 was a nightmare. Crappy customer service that doesn't have a toll free number, transfers to an Indian call center, and answers zero questions. Prints that won't align, difficulty getting proper borderless, a document feeder that never worked, a print head that died. WASTE of money. Should have purchased a laser Brother (the option I was torn between). This is a half-step until I'm willing to trust again. Epson -trash. Never again.
It's not the INK that makes them expensive.....those expensive ink cartridges also have the printhead integrated into them....that is what makes them so expensive.
officejet pro 6978 has refillable cartridges with dye ink in it ,i did several printhead cleaning and print head solution with distilled water and alcohol, now it only print the yellow and black . wont print blue and red ink. whats next
In my experience the idea that third party inks damage the printer is a lie. However the original manufacturers' ink almost always does give better printed image quality, particularly for photos. Sometimes the difference is tiny, sometimes it is a big difference, depending upon the quality of the third party ink.
HP Smart is a complete headtwisting nightmare. Honestly... I have had days where it took me 2-3 hours to get it to print something. I would give anything to have bought a cabled plug and play printer now. I am binning this heap of garbage and buying something that just works without having to micro manage it every week or two...
If you use the scan feature and prefer a good program, run away from the Epson... unless you have a good 3rd party scan programs. I'm soooo disappointed in the Epson 3760 because the scanning is garbage!!!
Thanks for helping me make my decision after my Epson XP-610 reached its "restricted life span". I was so confused between choosing Epson and HP until I found out about this video!
Spot on insight! PC Magazine gave this HP 651 Smart Tank Plus, a lesser rating than the Canon Prixma G7020 or the Epson ET4760. Even the Brother Inkvestment MFC-J6545DW got a better review. I need a good quality, save money in ink, and also a printer from 200-280 g because I use it for craft, creative paper for parties, so I would be very grateful if you could give me your opinion. Now I have an HP and quality is very nice for this works, the problem with Epson is the way of alimentation paper, and HP has a very nice tray. I hope you can read my message in order to help me. Thank you so much for this video
The features on either printer aren't as good as the better office jets that have removable print heads. The Epson Ecotank printers generally have more features and the ink should be easier to find. Maybe they will have a version based on the 9010 and up printers and keep the advanced features like double sided everything and the better ink and print head setup.
@@syberpunk Great, more manufacturers should have easily removable and replaceable print heads so you can fix it if you like it. The other option is heads built into the cartridge. My old hp 990 had that setup so if it started printing badly I'd just pull the cart and clean up the heads. As long as it had ink it would work again. When they ran out I'd pop the fill plugs and refill each color. I could usually get about 5 refills before the cart finally wore out and broke. You just can't find good carts OEM or rebuilt for it anymore.
My Smart Tank Plus 651 is truly awful. It randomly omits text and lines of print; reprinting yelds the same errors. I've done all the usual maintenance, ink is HP, etc. nothing helps. Because the errors are reproduceable, It is obviously a software/ firmware issue, but HP won't fix it. This is my LAST HP printer (and I've been using them for 30 years). Stay away from this one.
I Have a brand new 670 Printer. managed to print 2 pages nicely the 3rd jammed so the 4th and the 5th.. Can't get an assistant via phone or whatsapp Do not buy this printer. Its build quality is a shame, feels extremely cheap - and performs as well.. Now i have 1 day old printer that will be sent to a lab for testing for a month or so and after that i'll have a nice refurbished one for the price of a new. DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER!
No. Simple answer. Its very messy if something goes wrong, the scan and print quality is very average at best, printing speeds are from 15 years ago. Machines are pricey aswell. Better use something with auto refill cartridges.
Now I'm so confused haha. I'm planning on replacing my HP Officejet 6700. Primarily we use it for family needs: printing and scanning documents. I rarely used it for printing my photos because the printer started to have problems and the quality was awful... I've seen the Epson ET-7700 which fits the family needs for documents and I would use to print few pics, but costs 520€... Then I've seen the HP Start Tank's 551 and 570 that are a lot cheaper: 240€ and 290€... But after this video I don't know what to do: if take a cheaper one for the family and saving for a photography oriented printer or take the epson... Thank you for the video!

Amen.
I need adivice about the print autonomy. I own the smart tank 7005. Do you think 12000 pages is too much for someone that may not use the printer for one or two months sometimes? Maybe just 400 or 800 pages of autonomy is enough?
I don't think it would print all 12k pages of 100% coverage (Like a Photo)
Yes 400-800 roughly is a good amount.
@@BestPrinters Yeah.
Can I sublimation print on this hp
i have a epson L3520 where can i get the printer head
How is the HP Smart Tank 651 on making heat transfers for t-shirts?
I would like to know the answer to this!
Heat print head can't do this.
Could you do an hp 9015 vs the hp tank plus 651? I have a home based business I print a lot of black and white docs but I also print color for stickers and for my child care! Knowing that Ink is expensive is the smart choice getting the 651? I also print double sided and scan 10+ documents
Thank you IAV!!
The 9015 is apparently much better in functions, but that model is quite HP, I mean, High Price.......
Hello this printer is a laser??
No it is not.
Should I make a Pt.2?
Very helpful! 👍
Glad to hear!
EPSON started it!!! Hopefully it can be converted for sublimation
Laser printers are a good way to go.
It's not the INK that makes them expensive.....those expensive ink cartridges also have the printhead integrated into them....that is what makes them so expensive.
officejet pro 6978 has refillable cartridges with dye ink in it ,i did several printhead cleaning and print head solution with distilled water and alcohol, now it only print the yellow and black . wont print blue and red ink. whats next
Is it true that remanufactured ink can damage the printers or is that just what hp want you to think
In my experience the idea that third party inks damage the printer is a lie. However the original manufacturers' ink almost always does give better printed image quality, particularly for photos. Sometimes the difference is tiny, sometimes it is a big difference, depending upon the quality of the third party ink.
I think you prefer EPSON in general mate,
It's sad I have already purchased the HP 651 before I stumbled upon this video 😢
Sorry
How about hp smart tank 519 for hest transfer for t-shirt is it good idea?
Thank you. Very good help
No problem!
Is ANY of the ecotank ink liable to sublimate on a mug
HP smart tank 5000 is only $169 Black Friday sale
BUY!
HP Smart is a complete headtwisting nightmare. Honestly... I have had days where it took me 2-3 hours to get it to print something. I would give anything to have bought a cabled plug and play printer now. I am binning this heap of garbage and buying something that just works without having to micro manage it every week or two...
True!
Hi! Do you recomend HP smart tank plus 570 at 280 euros tax incl?
If it fits your needs then yes thats not bad.
If you use the scan feature and prefer a good program, run away from the Epson... unless you have a good 3rd party scan programs. I'm soooo disappointed in the Epson 3760 because the scanning is garbage!!!
Can you print shirt with this?
What do you mean?
@@BestPrinters
Im looking for an affordable printer that is good for printing shirts.
@@BestPrinters They may mean using heat transfers
@@Rhawn246
Yes i mean using heat transfer paper
Heat print head is less appropriate choice.
Thanks for helping me make my decision after my Epson XP-610 reached its "restricted life span". I was so confused between choosing Epson and HP until I found out about this video!
So happy to hear your printer is working again!
Which one did u take ? And how is it now ?
Spot on insight! PC Magazine gave this HP 651 Smart Tank Plus, a lesser rating than the Canon Prixma G7020 or the Epson ET4760. Even the Brother Inkvestment MFC-J6545DW got a better review.
How would you compare the Canon Prixma G7020 vs Epson ET 4760 to the Brother Inkvestment MFC-J6545DW?
A few days ago I purchased a Brother Inkvestment MFC-J6545DW and I am thinking of excanging it for a Canon Prixma G7020.
Thanks for your insight.
Hi!! thank you so much!! I am in this step and I have a lot of doubts.
Which HP please as I am looking for a printer too and I am not sure which one to go with
Sorry I wasn’t able to get to your message. Please create a new comment with the same question if you still need a response. Thank you!

Phone holder on a printer is the dumbest thing I have heard thus far this year 2025.
Wow.
printers could have wireless phone charger in them.
Good one!
so confusing
The features on either printer aren't as good as the better office jets that have removable print heads. The Epson Ecotank printers generally have more features and the ink should be easier to find. Maybe they will have a version based on the 9010 and up printers and keep the advanced features like double sided everything and the better ink and print head setup.
Canon’s G3260 is an inktank printer with removable and user-replaceable printheads. The black and color printheads cost only around $30 each.
@@69Dartman 100% agree 👍
In parking lot of staples watching this. Going in to buy an Epson et4760.
Thats a good one!
You're giving a review of something that you don't have. No print samples, nothing....what a waste of time.
Search my channel, I have reviewed many Hp smart tanks.
1:57 and video is off.
Oh, no need Hp Inktanks, too much complain.. And cannon also, Brother is best for my experienced. ,
Brother is good!
Hp is dual band and Epson is only 2.4
I Have a brand new 670 Printer.
managed to print 2 pages nicely
the 3rd jammed so the 4th and the 5th..
Can't get an assistant via phone or whatsapp
Do not buy this printer.
Its build quality is a shame, feels extremely cheap - and performs as well..
Now i have 1 day old printer that will be sent to a lab for testing for a month or so
and after that i'll have a nice refurbished one for the price of a new.
DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER!
Thank you for your feedback to your fellow viewers
You could make the vid 4 mins instead of 18 :(
No. Simple answer. Its very messy if something goes wrong, the scan and print quality is very average at best, printing speeds are from 15 years ago. Machines are pricey aswell.
Better use something with auto refill cartridges.
Ok
Paying $20 is not saving, it's SPENDING
Do a cost analysis and you end up saving.
too much chatter before you get to the meat.
Its called an appetizer.
Damn boiii
Ye!

@Brandon I believe HP has 7 models now of this type of tank printers.
Yes because they just released new one this January. I am coming out with a new review on the Hp SmartTank 5100 series.
