    Best video on youtube for Rug Doctor water pump replacement! A couple of suggestions ... remove the wheel and axle AFTER you remove the panel, take a couple pictures of where the wiring and tubes are arranged around the axle. When putting the unit back together, install the axle BEFORE you replace the panel so you ensure a clear path from one axle hole to the other around the wires and tubes. Would also highly suggest using screw clamps (less than $1 each) for easy installation, and in event you need to remove the clamps at a later time. Great job!

      Thank you for the comment. I totally agree with the screw clamps. A small price to pay for a huge improvement should you even need to remove the hoses again!

    Thank you so much for posting. We love our Rug Doctor and changing the pump ourselves will save us a few bucks. Saving money is why we bought it in the first place.

    Thank you! Just replaced my pump and it’s good as new! I had my X3 at a local vacuum replace place for the past 6 months because he said he couldn’t find the past. Found it online and replaced it in 90 minutes. Great video.

    Picked up one of these, very clean for 5 bucks, wouldn't spray. They even put a new pump in it. After talking it apart 2 times I figured it out. They had inlet outlet reversed, left the diode in line and had it powered backwards. Thanks for the vid.

    I went to use my Rug Doctor last night. Vacuumed, made up the mix & filled the tank, pre-treated the area, & then no spray. The pump looked like the one in this demo. I unscrewed the metal plates on each end of the pump, which hold the plastic fittings in place. The arrow on the pump indicates the flow direction. Inside the base of the arrow side there is a heavy spring & a metal piston. In this piston is check valve which allows water to only flow in one direction. Under the opposite side of the pump, the one that the arrow points to, is a small spring with an attached ball that also serves as a check valve. The metal piston was stuck inside thee pump housing. Took it out, & noticed a small amount of what appeared to be some kind of rust-like deposit. Cleaned the piston & the channel it rides in with some good metal polish, so that the piston is free to move. Now I have to put everything back together. I don't have many hours on the machine, but have had it for a number of years. The only issue I had with it before this was the suction hose strainer falling of in the tank. Needless to say, I was a bit pissed off when I discovered that no water was being sprayed. I feel confident that the pump will spray again, but for how long is anyone's guess.

      Sometimes the black flow plungers get deformed (epically when vinegar is used). The coil could also be bad. I did have one a few weeks back, I was trying to figure out why it would not pump and could not figure it out either.

    What was the original problem that required the pump to be replaced? I ask because mine is not spraying and the vacuum doesn't seem to be creating suction from the base although there is a strong suction when checking by removing the filter in the clear dome. Any suggestions?

      Hard to say. I've seen the elbows or even the sides of the pump crack. Best to dig into it before ordering parts.

    Eric, excellent video, however, the wire connection section part of the video was stopped; I couldn't view how to reconnect the four wires. My old pump had two white wires. The new pump has a thick and thin black wire. I read below your answer is to connect the fuse to the thin black wire. Okay, got that part, now where do I connect the other end of the fuse, to the black or white wire? Then I assume the thick black wire coming from the pump connects to the only wire left. Thank you.

    Great video! I am trying to complete the installation of my new replacement pump and I am stuck. The old pump has 2 white wire (female connectors). The new pump has a thick RED wire (male) and the thin black wire (female). They sent a red fuse (male one end female on the other end). Trying to reconnect I’ve tried different combinations - get stuck. Short black wire from switch (green clip female end) fits nothing. Won’t connect to any pump wire. White wire from switch ok. Do I have the wrong pump? Should I change an end? Called rug doctor twice - no cb yet. Thanks for your great video and help!!!!!!!!

      I think we spoke on the phone and figured it out. On some machines the ends don't match up or fit together depending on the age of the machine. I personally remove the connectors and use wire nuts. You could also replace with the same type of connectors if you like.

    I have the wide track it has 3 wires. What is the 3rd wire for. When i ordered the pump i didnt know that it took two. So it sat for a while until i got the 2nd pump. Now I'm so confused with the wiring. Only one pump originally had the diode. So does both pumps get the fuse to replace the diode.

    nice work. mine sprays just for a few seconds while holding the red button then the spray will stop and be very weak. if i hold the red button down for more the 30 seconds. it will not spray and the carpet will not be wet. just really hot. is it possible that some ofthe motor hoses could be clogged up? ive used other soulutions in my rug doctor. not just rug doctor shampoo?? hell ive used Awessome powder, laundrt detergent, pine soil, and rug doctor shampoo.

    • @ClassicVacuum
      @ClassicVacuum  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rug Doctor pumps do not do well with powder detergent. Do not use anything in the pump other than Extractor Detergent and maybe an Odor Removing product designed to be used in Extractors. There are line filters and in the clean water thank that will get clogged or gummed up. Check that as it could be your issue. If not take it to you local Vac Shop. Call and make sure they repair Rug Doctor before making the trip.

    I must've ordered for a different model. The pump I rec'd looks like this one but my Rug Doctor Mighty Pro has blue wire connectors and the red male blade connector that came with the pump (fuse link) doesn't fit into the female blue connector on the machine. I think to get myself running, I'm going to butt splice the blue connector off of my old diode onto the end of the fuse link.

    I couldn't get through the entire video, but here are suggestions to help avoid borking parts during the first few steps of the removal process:
    1. The spray hose can be loosened as instructions request, by sliding back the clamp side of the brass dram connector.
    2. If you need to reuse the cap nuts, pry upward from underneath on each side of the retainers with a pair of screwdrivers or similar tools.
    3. Avoid stripping phillips screws by using the drill's low speed and, before operating the driver, seat the bit well and apply enough pressure to keep it from backing out.

    Hi can you give me a bit of advice my pump works fine with the hand tool button is pressed, on machine but when I turn it to carpet and press the button on the top of the handle nothing comes out ? It's a new machine only used 2 or 3 times my mate bought it new and has lost the recipe or I would claim the warranty hope you can help thank from Scott in Scotland

      I would guess it's a bad switch or loos connection. Check all the wire connectors to both the Red and Black switch inside the machine.

    Hey Aaron, what a great and in depth video you have made. Please keep up the good work. I am from the UK, and I have the same machine. The problem being is the front brush does not oscillate, everything else works fine. Any ideas that may help...?

    • @ClassicVacuum

      Thank you for the feedback. It is most likely the "Drive Motor"
      classicvac.com/brush-drive-motor-rug-doctor-mighty-pro-x3-wide-track-quick-dry/
      If the motor is getting power than replace the motor. You can also test the motor directly. Some times the motor can fall apart. If this is the case you will see the silver end separating from the black body.

    Between the thick and thin black wires coming from the new pump, which one connects to the fuse?

    • @ClassicVacuum
      @ClassicVacuum  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends on the how the connectors are configured in your machine. It does not really matter. I would connect the thin wire to the fuse if I had a choice. I would personally wire it Hot > Fuse > Diode > Pump > Ground.
