Appreciate the video. With no experience I was able to replace my pump and we are up and running as good as new. Great video and instruction. Anyone with this problem following this video WILL NOT be sorry!
Thank you for an excellent video on this machine. I have this rug doctor machine. I just replaced one of the suction hoses. If and when the pump burns out, I'll know what to do.
Thanks again Aiden! Great video. The replacement pump from Vacuums R Us works great. You weren’t kidding about the factory clamps being hard to get to and remove.
@@thefreestylefroggylooking at it from the back with the guard removed it should flow from left to right. There should be an arrow on the pump showing the direction of flow
I have a rug doctor that trips the circuit breaker after it has run for about 15-20 min. I let it cool off, reset it after 10 min or so and then it runs again for another 15-20 min until circuit breaker trips again. Do you have any ideas? It’s a personal use machine. Don’t use it often. I am thinking that the vacuum motor may be pulling to many amps. Thank you.
This shop is awesome. The pump failed on my Rug Doctor. This video explains exactly how to replace it, and I was able to order the replacement pump from VacuumsR-Us which was delivered in three days.👍
Your comments mean a lot to us! It's honestly a lot of work to create these videos and the people who put in the most work are not the ones in front of the camera. It takes me maybe a half hour in front of the camera to pop out a video like this. Our media lead spends hours and hours cutting and splicing it together (mostly removing me swearing). Our inventory team worked hard sourcing the pumps from a reputable supplier. Our technicians spent even more hours QA'ing each pump prior to sending it back to inventory to package and ship out to you! Finally our front end fields calls and orders for them. It really is a team effort here and your comments mean a lot!
Thanks for the video. Didnt have time or money to find or buy a new pump so I ended up taking the pump apart and cleaning the corrosion that seized it. Not that it was difficult but your video was an easy reference on taking the machine apart. Scored a practically new Rug Dr cause someone didnt flush out the system and it corroded the pump. Side question...You have any/couple old pumps laying around so i can have a couple to clean out and have on stand-by? Will happily pay the shipping.
Thanks for this video! I got the old pump out while following your instructions. Is there a way to test the old one with an electrical tester? Simply to know for sure that it's faulty before ordering the new one. If it's not the problem, is there a return policy? Thanks!
Does those pump elbow are universal? I have a mighty pack that elbows get cracked and need to be replaced, are the same for mine machine, model is mp-r2d TIA great video!!
I wish I could just drive to you but I’m in AZ. Do you have a video on how to repair my rug doctor back hose. Not the ones on top, but the big thick hose (I think it’s a suction hose) that runs in the back?
If there is a burning smell there are likely issues other than the pump. I've never seen a pump smell when it goes. Often the pump cracks and the leak takes the brush motor out however. In that case you would need both a brush motor and a pump which gets rather pricey.
I wonder if you could help me I’ve an older rug doctor it’s about 30 years old I’ve got a problem that when in hand tool mode the pump is constantly running even though main switch for vacuum and pump is turned off, I’m in the UK I’ve tried to get a wiring diagram for it but can only find the USA and Canada one, I’ve contacted RugDoctor UK and they refuse to provide me with one when it works like it’s new out of the box except for that issue. If you can help me it’s greatly appreciated
This looks relatively simple. Been thinking about buying a Rug Doctor Pro but I was concerned the repair of these was purposely complicated to generate repair profits. Am I wrong?
There are no "repair profits". Service and repair is break even at best for service centers and more often is a loss leader. The question is if a manufacturer even sells repair parts and components and offers documentation. Shark for example does not sell service components whatsoever nor does it issue schematics. Traditionally Rug Doctor did partner with service centers to facilitate repair which allowed for availability of parts and documentation. That has changed recently with newer models but we may see that change back again when they are inevitably acquired by another company.
If the red button engages and disengages the brush motor without any problems then this is likely crossed wires and is very dangerous. If the brush does not engage with the red button then the most likely issue is the button. Although crossed wires is still not ruled out.
My machine trips the breaker as soon as I hit the red button on the handle. It does this in multiple outlets and has done it at another home. Any ideas as to why this is happening? The red reset button ON THE PLUG feels like it's spring loaded. When I press it down it pops right back up. The white test button moves a little, but not much.
What commonly causes this is the pump has sprung a leak resulting in water getting in to the brush bar motor. This causes the breaker to trip instantly since obviously water in an electric motor will cause a short. This typically turns out to be a repair that is not worth doing since both pump and brush motor need replacement. Generally when we open the base of machines with this symptom it is pretty obvious what the issue is since the water damage is clearly visible.
@@vacuumsrus a friend and I opened it up. The lid to the brush motor has come apart. The portion of the lid that contains one of the screws broke off. It doesn't appear there's any water damage. We confirmed the water pump will come on and now the breaker doesn't trip. I think we could fix this.
The pump is like a shaker siphon hose. There's a 1 way valve that is in a piston inside the coil - aka pump. The water stays trapped in this and the piston freezes from rust and corrosion. You can disassemble this, making note of what goes where and this piston can be pushed out, cleaned up with fine steel wool and so can the barrel inside. You can reassemble it and reconnect everything. I just did this and I found getting axel out of the way and get at everything. There is a Y/T Video of fixing a pump. No need to spend $90-$110 on a new pump!
Those are called OETIKER clips, and they are largely used for BEVERAGE systems. Possible Correction: Where you point and state "this is one of the pumps that has the diode inside the pump, that may be a klixon sensor it is a thermal fuse that will open if the pump gets too hot.
The wire connectors are different on my new pump, small females and only one male connector on the machine that is too wide to fit the new one! When I removed the diode wire, I was left with a too large female connector. What a mess! LOL
Thanks for the video. I checked the metal screen before ordering a new pump. I cleaned the screen and it is working great!
Glad it helped!

Any way to show the wiring for both the brush motor AND the pump?
Due to how they run through the machines it is almost impossible, especially with a tech trying to hold everything in place.

I have a MP-C2C and when I push the "press to spray" button, it trips the machine's breaker. Ideas? Thanks, Mark

When pressing the botton the brush comes on and water starts. When let go of the botton brush stops but water dose not.

Mine came brand new without a working water pump.
That can happen unfortunately. Check with the company and see if you can get an exchange.

Why is it $100 shipping to Hawaii?!?! Ridiculous!!!
for an island in the middle of somewhere, that sounds cheap.
