Something that makes Asha's 7 companions look even worse. Encanto had 11 side characters and we can remember them all and all of them had memorable personalities and were all very fun on screen and many of them even had story arcs that we cared for, Bruno, Isabella, Luisa, Dolores, Antonio, Abuela... heck all of them, the entire Madrigal family, had memorable parts in the story and even story arcs despite their limited individual time on screen. you could not take them out of the movie without taking an important part of the movie with them.

Everyone in this movie is genuinely more than decent at singing, even the ones that don't sing. Ariana Debose and Chris Pine have backgrounds in musicals too. But how good the singer is doesn't matter when what they are singing isn't. The songs really brought down the whole movie.

Jennifer Lee said she wanted Disney to do a story about a mom...was "Rumplestiltskin" not good enough? And LMM or the Anderson-Lopez team needed to do the music.
They try to reference Snow White, but only six of the seven dwarves? I'm confused. Why did they cut one out? Magnifico was the hero, Asha the villain. Change my mind.
You never really spent time on the story; unless I misunderstood the basic plot, you "give" your wish to not-Doctor-Strange, you won't remember what it was...in the hope that *maybe* he'll grant the wish you don't remember??? In the words of Aristotle, "whaaaaaaaaa?"
The Disney references to older properties really shine through in this movie! They even reference the lack of good comedy from Home on the Range with that “deep voice little man” joke that they revised for the goat!
Fun Fact: Netflix made a movie that combined 2d and 3d art style and it actually looked really good, the thing was that Netflix made 2d look 3d and Disney *tried* making 3d look like 2d

It's the crystallization of everything wrong and generic and confusing about this movie. I do not blame Ariana DeBose for a moment. I have no complaints about this movie. After watching and rewatching it, I personally find it a fairly good movie with a great storyline, fun characters, and catchy songs. Plus they did a great job contributing to 100 Years of Disney Magic
I actually rewrote some of the songs lol, I rewrote “this wish” “at all cost” and “this is the thanks I get.” When I rewrote “this wish” I accidentally called it “I wish” because I forgot the title had “this” in it lol. Here’s my version of “this wish.” *Context:* In my version of this story, Asha got adopted by king Magnifico and queen Amaya. She starts singing about how upset she is because she misses her real parents and no one will tell her what happened to them and why they left her, (they left her because her real mum passed away, and that made her dad get depressed so he decided to put Asha up for adoption because he couldn’t take care of her anymore. I didn't think that life could be even more confusing than this, I thought growing up was going to be fun but I guess I thought wrong.. I thought that we would always be with each other, together forever..but you just drifted away from me like the wind. I wish that I could see you again, I wish that I could understand everything that's been happening so far instead of wishing on a star, begging for something brand new. I've always looked up at the stars so they can guide me, but all they do is shine and haven't given me a sign to work with..Nobody has ever answered my questions that I desperately needed to know. I've had many dreams but whenever I try to achieve them they all turn to dust..Could this mean that my life has no meaning at all? Is this the universes way of telling me to give up on my dreams? I always ask the stars to tell me why i'm here and to tell me what will come next, but I get no response.. Maybe the next day will be fun, maybe the next day i'll feel happy, maybe the next day i'll feel like I matter. If anyone or anything could give me a sign then maybe everything will be just fine for me!!! ... I wish someone could give me a sign to tell me if I should trust them. I wish to believe that I matter.. I wish that life wasn't so confusing and difficult.. All I want is some hope but I can't find any at all. If nothing ever works out for me, then why should I pretend to be happy? Why should I keep trying to chase my dreams? Why should I stay here when all I do is suffer?! How can I find my future when I have all of these obstacles in my way everyday? All they do is try to bring me down and sometimes it feels impossible to get back up.. I wish..I wish..I wish~ I WISH!!!~~ I wish to have a normal life! I wish to feel happy and feel like I matter!!~ I've always looked up at the stars so they can guide me..But all they do is shine and haven't given me a sign to work with..How can I feel happy when it feels like no one listens or cares? How can I feel happy when nothing ever works out anymore.. I wish.. I wish.. I WISH!!!~~ I wish that I could see my family again.
I love the voice actor that voiced the protagonist, I love her role in West Side Story, but jeez, this time around she got involved in a horrible thing. And underperformed, it's sad honestly.
Wish had so much potential. I saw it in theaters and when it was done I just thought "That was mediocre." I liked the hand painted feel of the background but the animation of the characters didn't fit in as well as it could have. The plotline wasstupid and I don't think the ending payed off as well as it could have. I do however, love peppy and upbeat villain songs, but an unnerving slow-paced villain song that wasn't motivated by self-absorbedness (or genes from outerspace) would have really made Wish feel like an 100 year celebration. I'm sad Disney scrapped the villain couple and star-boy plotline.
4:37 I know with The Flash and The MCU and stuff we've already seen enough sci-fi multiverse stuff but I have an idea. What if it was a multiverse story where maybe there would be a villain and every single Disney princess would come together to stop him anyone like my idea?
First off, wonderful analysis! Yes, perhaps Wish has gotten its fair share of criticism already, but I still think there's something to be said for good-faith critique of it, particularly considering that it seems like a studio that's made animated musical film projects, both in short cartoons and feature films, for 100 years really should've been able to produce something better. It really is a perfect example of something being more than the sum of its parts -- there were good things in this movie, but they couldn't come together in a good, cohesive whole and they often were overshadowed by elements that fell short. One thing I would like to just touch on, though, about the song At All Costs...the theory that it was about the Star Boy and Asha singing it as a love duet is sadly just fan conjecture. Nothing in the Wish art book or the released deleted scenes ever really insinuate that any incarnation of Star was going to be Asha's love interest -- at one point Star was even supposed to take a physical form that resembled a younger version of her grandfather (deceased in that version of the story). And really, looking at the last ten years of Disney projects, it isn't unlikely Disney had envisioned a more platonic relationship between those versions of the characters a la Nick and Judy in Zootopia or Moana and Maui in Moana. The real backstory that can be pieced together about At All Costs is sadly almost MORE depressing -- as is discussed in a Variety article, Julia Michaels really wanted to write a love song, but since Wish didn't feature any romance in its story, she wrote the song deliberately as something that could be taken seamlessly out of the film's context and played at people's weddings or used as a lullaby for one's kids. The songwriter was *literally* writing a song for a film musical that had nothing to do with the film's story, themes, or characters so that it could be repackaged as something completely different. This was how little the songs in this film were written to help tell the story -- one was explicitly written in such a way that it had no real connection to anything going on in the movie.
The most incredible thing about this movie honestly is that fucking RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET got a BEST ANIMATED FILM NOMINATION… *RAPLH BREAKS THE INTERNET*…and this didn’t even get a passing mention. Their naked lame cash grab effortless sequel was more successful than their 100 year legacy celebration… Bob Igor needs to get fired already.
Apologies for leaving so many separate comments, but I noticed that “this wish” especially alternates between 3/4 timing and 4/4 (or 6/4). Wish is set in the 1200s, and it 100% fits that; fluid time signatures and the selected instruments seem very specifically chosen and well though out.
I think Disney realy missed out on the idea of blending 2D and 3D as we could have gotten a movie like spirit stallion of the Cimarron which marred both 3D and 2D so well that its hard to notice the difference if you don't work in animation or didn’t know it beforehand so it looks like it was all done in 2D animation and i would have loved to see something like that in wish.
I think everyone should boycott Disney movies in theatres. They all go onto Disney+ a month or two later anyway, and that's a hell of a lot cheaper than a movie ticket.
"Wish" happened to be the biggest Disney movie since "Frozen II" in Japan and topped the box office in Argentina and Uruguay. It also did well in countries as diverse as France, Spain, United Kingdom, South Korea, Australia and Brazil. How can you say then that "it failed on every level"? It is clear that only North Americans have a problem with accepting this movie, but the world is much bigger than just the US and Canada.
Whenever i see bad episodes or movies, i always think, "man they should redo this." Then i remember that its a production of film and that costs a lot of mone.y
I think the single side affect of poorly fitting lyrics timing wise is that you end up with some really cool syncopation, but there’s kinda too much of it, and the nonsensical lyrics are funny and entertaining, but just because they’re so odd
oh my god...I wondered if you'd reduced the quality of the clips in your video to avoid copyright or something; the more I watched though, the more I realised what it reminded me of: those straight-to-DVD Barbie Sparkle Horse Princess movies or whatever they were called, but as if somebody decided to remaster them using AI that's partly trained on concept art from Tangled...
I feel bad for the art style, because it's honestly not bad. I haven't watched the movie yet, so I can't say much about it, but I listened to the soundtrack. Lemme tell you, it takes a lot for me to truly dislike something. I loved The Marvels despite what everybody else says. I can ironically enjoy the likes of The Room or The Twilight Saga. I supported the Prequels even when people clowned on it, even when I admit to its glaring flaws. But that fucking soundtrack just fills me with such disappointment and resentment that it made me spiral to an obsession over it because I just can't comprehend how it can exist. Oh, I still listen to it, but not because of a sense of "so bad, it's good". No, I just listen to it because I'm a masochist apparently and those excuses for songs fill me with so much pain.

And the main character isnt a princess or any way related to royalty unlike most disney shows. Thanks I get .... was my fav soundtrack in the show too on that we on the same page. I support your critism though.
I know. This movie is so bad and it makes me wince as it had potential to be great but it’s… meh…. As for King Magnifico, I feel sorry for that character. I compare him to Prince Hans in a sense that you can tell that the writers were forcing them to be villains because the story needed villains and it had to be “the light skin evil man”. King Magnifico could have been great if he had been straight up bad from the beginning or!!! Or!!! Been a twist hero. Had they gone the twist hero it would have been both amazing and a breath of fresh air as it’s something Disney had never done before and overall it would have made the story better as the movie portrays King Magnifico as a good reasonable guy with flaws, the whole turning evil came as a “what the f?” Kind of move that just did not work. As for Asha, I did not like her. I blame the writers. It is clear they live in a bubble and have not seen the outside world. Have they been outside!? Also they sell this to the USA mostly and if you do not know the USA is having a crisis, we are having the highest rates of homelessness in years, people are living paycheck to paycheck and struggling to put food on the table. Combine this and the movie it really makes Asha look like a spoiled brat who is throwing a temper tantrum because she did not get what she wants. The movie is just really tone deaf. Like read the room! Go outside and experience the real world!
They didnt let Star Boy in because modern disney is "woke". They look upon love as a sin and something a girl should never condone to if she wants to be "badass" and a "leader" which is a shame since Disney's very premise is based on love stories. Snow White was a love story which made them famous, so was Beauty and the Beast, The Arabian Nights and Cinderella...

I wouldn't be surprised if she said that line the same way every time because a) the directors told her to say it the same way or b) she thought she was rerecording the same lines over again but with a few changes, because apparently this movie was still being written while it was recorded.
Yeah, I wouldn’t say that it’s her fault. She’s clearly a good singer, I think the directing is to blame.
@@isaacmurdock I think that basically summarizes the entire movie. Everyone who worked on it could have done amazing, the directors ruined it.
I realized the lyric “throw caution to every warning sign” although it sounds off, kinda makes sense. When I see a warning sign, I use caution, but the similarity to the expression “throw caution to the wind” which has the opposite meaning causes a lot of confusion.
This movie had so much potential to be a Disney Classic, and they seriously wasted it.
Maybe not a classic, but up there with Disney’s better films.

The villain song was my biggest disappoimtment, because Chris Pine is so good ar singing, he could pull out a great villain song. Just listen to Agony from Into the Woods
I know! Chris Pine is awesome!
Everyone in this movie is genuinely more than decent at singing, even the ones that don't sing. Ariana Debose and Chris Pine have backgrounds in musicals too. But how good the singer is doesn't matter when what they are singing isn't. The songs really brought down the whole movie.
I 100% agree with you Of what you said, in the video, the potential for this movie was squandered by the writers crew and directive decisions The music Is garbage the characters are flat and boring and for me, I like the animation and art style and feel like that it’s very unique, but wish the animation was in 2D Since the movie was gonna be animated in 2D I just feel bad at this movie was just squandered by Disney and it does not live up to the title of a 100 year celebration for me. It’s my worst movie of 2023 because of the wasted potential and directive decisions behind the scenes justice for Asha X Starboy and the evil king and queen, Disney villain couple
This is a great comment!

No seriously what if the direcors watched the Space Pants song and put in that lyric cos they were drunk and thought it was funny?

Hellfire. Now there is an epic villain song. Disney has fallen a long way down.
It's just a little bit of a whiplash because encanto was so good. And I'm pretty sure a decent front of that production was during the pandemic too which was probably a bit challenging.
The funniest thing is that my younger brother hated Sabino and said he was annoying as well for wasting his wish on inspiring others by playing guitar. His words: “What a stupid wish. If I was the king I would’ve crushed it in front of the girl.” LOL (Shoutout to your brother tho)

Magnifico was the hero, Asha the villain. Change my mind.
When It comes to music, I honestly love the "Welcome to Rosas" song.
"The thanks" would have been nice for the goat, or one of A's boring friends

7:22 "TO have something more for us than this" doesn't invite multiple line deliveries because it is absolutely INANE and devoid of meaning. It's the crystallization of everything wrong and generic and confusing about this movie. I do not blame Ariana DeBose for a moment. (Besides, it's entirely likely that she DID give it different line deliveries, and simply that the producers/music team are responsible the ones that made it into the final film.)
Oh for sure, this is definitely a directing/producing issue.

I have no complaints about this movie. After watching and rewatching it, I personally find it a fairly good movie with a great storyline, fun characters, and catchy songs. Plus they did a great job contributing to 100 Years of Disney Magic

I actually rewrote some of the songs lol, I rewrote “this wish” “at all cost” and “this is the thanks I get.”
When I rewrote “this wish” I accidentally called it “I wish” because I forgot the title had “this” in it lol.
Here’s my version of “this wish.”
*Context:*
In my version of this story, Asha got adopted by king Magnifico and queen Amaya.
I wish to feel happy and feel like I matter!!~
I've always looked up at the stars so they can guide me..But all they do is shine and haven't given me a sign to work with..How can I feel happy when it feels like no one listens or cares? How can I feel happy when nothing ever works out anymore..
I wish..

I WISH!!!~~
I wish that I could see my family again.
Wish was basically a bad Once Upon a Time episode
I love how the critics are acting like disappointed parents and I’m honestly all for it 😅
Encanto was the last good Disney movie after moana. Moana is quite a few years old now. Disney now sucks arse
I love the voice actor that voiced the protagonist, I love her role in West Side Story, but jeez, this time around she got involved in a horrible thing. And underperformed, it's sad honestly.
Ariana Debose is very talented, she definitely deserves better material than this.

@@isaacmurdockalso good editing🎉
I've wondered since they first announced this movie and its title/premise if it was their attempt to overtake the new puss in boot's success
Disney sabatoged this movie 100%.

I enjoy your comments, thank you! 😊
Lmao the song lyrics😹
They definitely aren’t… the best. 😅
We couldve had star boy and villian couple. Disney robbed us
I think Disney realy missed out on the idea of blending 2D and 3D as we could have gotten a movie like spirit stallion of the Cimarron which marred both 3D and 2D so well that its hard to notice the difference if you don't work in animation or didn’t know it beforehand so it looks like it was all done in 2D animation and i would have loved to see something like that in wish.
I think everyone should boycott Disney movies in theatres. They all go onto Disney+ a month or two later anyway, and that's a hell of a lot cheaper than a movie ticket.
All I can say don't assign Jennifer Lee as head writer again.
Wish is like if you get all the traits thats in all Disney movies with about 88% less budget.
5:37 The grammar in this line infuriates me!

King Magnifico is really the best character in this movie 🙂👍❤️
oh my god...I wondered if you'd reduced the quality of the clips in your video to avoid copyright or something; the more I watched though, the more I realised what it reminded me of: those straight-to-DVD Barbie Sparkle Horse Princess movies or whatever they were called, but as if somebody decided to remaster them using AI that's partly trained on concept art from Tangled...
I feel bad for the art style, because it's honestly not bad. But my expectations were also TOO high JUST because I know of a series that did something similar and all they did was add what looks like lines like the 3D was hand drawn.

I had to agree with you
I actually loved the show. Its sorta authentic......since it had alot of disney puns like peter pan building a plane. And the main character isnt a princess or any way related to royalty unlike most disney shows. Thanks I get .... was my fav soundtrack in the show too on that we on the same page. I support your critism though.
I’m glad you liked the movie! Your opinion is valid! :)
As for the villain, CARE BEARS DID IT!
Here. I. Are.
2:49 😂😂😂😂😂
They didnt let Star Boy in because modern disney is "woke". They look upon love as a sin and something a girl should never condone to if she wants to be "badass" and a "leader" which is a shame since Disney's very premise is based on love stories. Snow White was a love story which made them famous, so was Beauty and the Beast, The Arabian Nights and Cinderella...
