This video feels scary to post. Hair loss is something I instinctively try to hide. But I've also found that once I started developing jokes about it this summer, it's bothered me less. So it is with most insecurities and anxieties: If you can find a way laugh about it, you take away (most of) its power.

Hair loss is something we all face. Haircuts that help embrace the hair your still have is the best way to do it.

I had cancer at 17, and I shaved my head so I wouldn't have to see my hair fall out. My grandmother purchased a $200 wig for me to wear, so that I wouldn't "feel weird about being a bald girl" but I totally just went all in on that baldness! I wound up getting myself a $15 magenta wig to wear when I didn't feel like being bald anymore. I think it kickstarted my love of having fun dyed hair, so I've had blue hair for the past two years now!

Don't worry about your bald spot! All of my funny teachers in school had bald spots so you are ok.

Just the funny teachers? So were your serious teachers totally bald or they had full heads of hair?

JoshSundquist yep both teachers who are bald or have a full head of hair are serious, boring or just plain annoying

This is so true. We often initially feel self conscious of the little things people dont even notice. If we laugh about it, then it isn’t so bad. When I came back to school after recovering from my kidney transplant, my doctors instructed me to wear a mask do to infection risk. I am also visually impaired, so between my cane, sunglasses, and mask, I looked like a bit of a medical train reck. I would make jokes to my friends that I looked like some sort of off the wall anime character. I even wore these medical masks that were covered in different patterns like hearts, flowers, and Hello Kitty.

Knitted hats(or 'beanies') are in style right now for the hipster crowd. Some of them seem to never take off their hats, makes me wonder if they are not just losing hair, just like you.

I'm a one-legged pediatrician (birth defect) and I started losing hair on my forehead when I was 50. That annoyed me far more than anything else! I don't mind if patients ask me about my leg, but it's taken a long time not to be self-conscious about my hair.

I was doing the comb-over thing and it was nearly working [not really]. Until I went to a barber who decided it was ridiculous and got rid of those long strands that truly didn't cover much. No one at work noticed the difference. 🤣

I can so relate. 20 years ago a friend accidentally shoved part of his head by mishandling a trimmer. So me & three other friends decided we would shave our heads too in solidarity. Right after I shaved my head and looked in the mirror and underneath my thick head of hair were these two thinner looking spots up by the top my head. I was like wait what is that? And it has gotten thinner and thinner and thinner ever since and now it’s a big old bald spot. And I still live with the same insecurities that you do wishing every day I could get it to come back and replace it by a hairpiece or something. But it is what it is
