In all honesty, I wouldn't change the Horus Heresy era Angron or World Eaters. I absolutely love their story, and in my mind, Angron was absolutely the must justified primarch. Even more, I love the dynamic he has with his legion. They're torn between wanting desperately to please their gene-father, but they are also aware that he's unstable and needs to be dealt with. It's the mindless 40k World Eaters I find boring.
When a world eater says “I am no slave” before rushing to a glorious death in the early HH books I literally shed a tear. Because they are. They are a slave to the fact that they are slaves and no matter how far you take angron from the sands he is still a slave. Doing what they do best is all they have and they are slaves to that as well. It’s beautiful. I love the world eaters, and they aren’t even my top three legions.
For me, the main problem with the World Eaters is that Games Workshop have written themselves into a corner with the Butcher's Nails. The Butcher's Nails maybe a cool concept on the table top, but when applied to story telling and character development, it leaves the World Eaters little to no agency in their decisions to the point of being a comical parody. A Legion of irrational crazed retards isn't exactly what I envision as a true threat to the imperium. So much so that I find it troubling to comprehend how said legion even functions on any real strategic level. Beyond the nice aesthetics of the army, it lacks any real seriousness that allows me to really immerse myself into the legion. Although I am aware Games Workshop have World Eater characters that do show rationality within some books like the Black Legion and Night Lord novels, I ultimately find these examples irrelevant to the general trend Games Workshop has set with the two main leaders being Angron and Kharn. At least within the 40k setting, I feel there is little to nothing interesting you can do with these characters, there is very little room for anything interesting regarding their development as that would require room for multifaceted complexity that would contradict the Butcher's Nails. Therefore, the way I would change the World Eaters really boils down to either heavily retconning the effects of the Butcher's Nails, or even removing them as apart of the story. I deem this to be crucial as without it, the Legion fails to embody any other notable aspects of Khorne. One aspect in particular that I want more front and center than anything is honour through open battle. I don't want crazed idiots going around killing whoever as they please, I want rage filled but truly honourable warriors of Khorne who wish to take the skulls of those they deem worthy for the Blood God via fair but brutal combat.
I find the blood for the blood god meme more funny when it’s adapted in communities of other games than in 40k. Example: Blood for the blood lily for White Mage in FFXIV is funny when done on occasion.
GW really needs to revisit and give more complexity to the primarchs. North your re- imagining\ re-engineering of Angron' s World Eaters, really makes me want to build, collect and play games with them. They're to one dimensional currently.
Back during 3rd edition, GW actually TRAINED it's employees to scream out during demo games. In a completely unrelated story, shortly thereafter most GW stores in the US closed...
I'm seriously thinking of starting a world eaters army once the dex and box come out. Hearing the little bit of lore where angron isn't angry makes him interesting. They would most definitely be white and blue as per pre heresy. I've got a lord zhufor model kicking around somewhere I need to build
I never understood why Angron would have inflicted his whole legion to the bucheres nails. It seemed silly to me. I've really enjoyed your lore videos a lot. I think most of your chamges are fantastic and well designed.
I love the Angron name change! This is certainly an interesting take on the legion, especially the part with Angron and Guilliman’s friendship. Iirc, the astronomican’s light doesn’t extend past the galaxy’s edge in canon. That is the primary reason Lord Solar Macharius had to end his crusade, and also why the other beacon needed (narratively speaking) to be overloaded to actually reach far enough and attract the tyranids. Obviously you can change that, but I personally don’t mind it…
I remember reading the world Eater lore in the white dwarf supplement for them. I thought wow, this lore is so tragic and understandable. "Then the legion decided to also put the butcher's nails in themselves too" and then I thought it was the most retarded thing I read. Goes from so good to so stupid. Only good thing I've read since is Angron is a bodybuilder
Yet another thing ruined by memes. I like the lord the way it is but I do prefer this version. Also yelling “WAAAGH!” when playing orks. wasn’t there a old rule where ork players had to do that if they wanted to use certain abilities? I think i heard about something like that being a thing but i can’t remember if it was for Fantasy, 40k or both. either way glad it’s not there anymore. Stuff like that should be reserved for friends joking around when playing games against each other.
I gotta say North, I like your version of the lore a lot. Not just the World Eaters, all the Legions. Except the Night Lords, nothing about them appeals to me. Nothing personal, except personal taste.

In fact, I never even made the connection of it being a portmanteau of Angry man. Only after I heard someone else say it did I realize and even then I kinda shrugged and thought... I guess.
Well I'm sold. Here's the low down. I won a cubic fuckton of space marines on my online raffle type thing. Like 500 quids worth, very very silly anyway. I was going to make black Templars and I've gone as far as getting two upgrade packs I think I might go Horus heresy World Eaters now. The wrist chained weapons will cross over well and I can fudge the rest.

Same goes with the Khornate greater possessed stuff, the 8 demons within one silly Marine. Its like an afternoon cartoon villain story telling every time, its cheap and its removing the flavour of factions and the setting at large. I mean.. For Gods sakes... Look at what Games Workshop made Roboute Guilliman do... A Primarch... Kneeling... To Space Wolves... The "WaaauW" effect and overall lore is in the toilet and that is said from a Eldar and Ultramarine fanboy... The constant cringe is over the top and its destroying the whole spiel of Warhammer in general. I wish the writers or "rulemakers" or heaven forbid GW knew their setting better.

And one can "break" the banishment in more ways than simply that, the whole spiel of "eight" fluff is just god awful. The writting is on the wall and the lore is dying by the day because of horrendous story telling.

Angron never should have been taken as a slave when you have the likes of perturabo being able to kill literal monsters as a boy. Makes no sense to me tbh, even after killing the eldar.
I think they did it because they hint that the world has advanced tech that can hold him and also they take advantage of the fact he stays there more out of a need to help people than anything.

Great video,but you forgot to add lore about Magos. The sheer balls of this SM to confront his father Angron and tell him that he's under arrest, is insane. The final battle between Magos and Khorne was awesome. I tend to think what if Magos won and Kharne was killed. That would have been ideal. A normal WE besting a WE empowered by the butcher's nails. That would have proved to Angron that his sons can be strong without the nails.
