Brilliant video Gary its almost 20 years since ive being there ! fantastic shots loved the 1,s with the dude engrossed in his phone the movement of the other great stuff !
Thanks for the video. It is amazing just being in the moment. I have often thought about doing a little street photography but hesitate because of the reactions of people.
That's charming, bet you didn't expect to get the finger while photographing. I wonder if it was a tourist. Nice video, Edinburgh's a nice city for the weekend.
I take it there were happy for you to film and take photos in the gallery, thats amazing well done Scotland. Your very good at playing with your camera settings and making something happen. And your voice overs are great you sounds the same as when talking to the camera live... good day out inspired me to head to Manchester now..
Really enjoyed this video Gary. I mainly shoot landscape and a little wildlife, but just lately I’ve been doing quite a bit of street stuff and love it! After 30 odd years of landscape photography, street photography has given me a new lease of life and got the adrenaline flowing again.
Hi Gary. I find a change of subject and pace are good ways to get the creative juices flowing. Not limiting myself with preconceived ideas of what I will photograph makes for a relaxing day of shooting. Enjoyed the video!
Impressive what you got in a few hours of street walk. I especially like the gentleman with reflective sunglasses holding an umbrella - class. Though you got those two angry folks, maybe they won't like their photo shared online.
The “work being done” is getting ready for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Quite a spectacle, even if you are not into that sort of thing, still worth a watch.
Good job! I like your images. And you made me even more excited about my trip to Scotland I'm planning for next year. I want to travel to Scotland from the United States, visit Edinburgh, and capture some images in the mountains of Scotland. Such a beautiful country.
Really enjoyed his video Gary and loved what you did with the slow shutter speeds. I remember many years ago doing some street stuff for a photographic certificate in a very different Edinburgh. Great work.
Edinburgh is local to me and it was an eye-opener to see street photogrpahy done by an expert. This has given me an incentitve to get up there again and see if I can improve on earlier attempts.
Cracking video Gary, I’ve never been to Edinburgh but always wanted to, even before I got into photography proper. After seeing this, and a couple of other videos over the last couple of years I definitely want to visit purely for photography.
Loved the stories your photos told Gary. The little girl in the art gallery looking at the weird head, I wondered if she had nightmare. I also like where the girls were being helped up the steps with a gentle push. I have to wonder though if we will still have the buskers and artists waiting for a few coins when we are cashless and there's no coins to give.
Great photos !!! Thanks for a nice walk around Edinburgh !!! (I recently did Paris (2wks) bout 10hrs a day :) with a Z7 n 24-200 Nikkor , really happy with the results!!!! I enjoy the slow shutter speed shots :) The religious people showing the finger (makes Me want to be a believer) :) :) :)
You should have asked the little girl “What are your thoughts on this piece?” Or is talking to children something you don’t do? I’m a woman so find it easy to chat with children of all ages, but for men it might be different? Anyway, I’m always curious as to their take on the world. Fabulous photos-the one of the miniature looks like it could be a real place-that you can step into-and the black and white with movement remind me of Alexey Titarenko’s photography.
Nice one Gary, the building with the curly roof is a new hotel and some locals refer to it as the turd 🙂. Calton Hill where you were up overlooking the city and across the Forth is one of my favourite places to visit as you can get some great images from up there.
Thanks for the reply Gary. It’s interesting that you’re using a zoom for street photography. I tend to shoot with a 24, 35 or 50mm prime. I didn’t say that your images were overly saturated, just a bit more saturated than I’m used to seeing unless I use something like Velvia.
Wonderful photos, thanks for sharing. I was there about 2 years ago, fabulious place. Do you have to deal with model release forms where the propele are recognizable?
The steps at fleshmarket close just outside Waverley station are much more characterful. As for the old town, you need to take yourself away from the tartan tat shops on the royal mile and explore all the little closes that lead off from the main thoroughfare. Surprised you didn’t visit the Grassmarket and the Vennel. Come back in August when the festival fringe is in full swing and bring Gareth Danks with you. Plenty street photography opportunities then.
I’m new to your channel and not familiar with your shooting style just yet. You mentioned 1 camera and 1 lens, which lens were you using? Also, your images appear very saturated, are you doing this in post processing or using a vivid film style? Thanks!
Edinburgh is a deeply characterful place. Interested to hear why you chose not to capture much of the place over people, who are found in all cities? Would have loved to see your take on landscapes given so much opportunity in Edinburgh.
Big G Edinburgh is my favourite city i worked up there for years and have some great locations to shot later in the year u fancy coming along let me know (don’t worry a don’t want to be in the video) PS enjoy your self while in my homeland (Northumberland) 👍
Must admit I am not a fan of jaunty angle shots, unless it adds drama. Otherwise it makes the viewer feel off kilter for no particular reason. Jaunty angle photography is something I thought looked cool when I was a teenager; not now though. One of my mates loves his angles, and I’m just like “no mate”. Each to their own though. 👍📸
I’ve wandered around Edinburgh a few times. Love it
The dog in the rucksack! Brilliant!!
Amazing Day with Amazing Photos. Royal Enfield and two days drive .WoW
Brilliant video Gary its almost 20 years since ive being there ! fantastic shots loved the 1,s with the dude engrossed in his phone the movement of the other great stuff !
Cheers 👍
Love the slow shutter speed shots!
Thanks for the video. It is amazing just being in the moment. I have often thought about doing a little street photography but hesitate because of the reactions of people.
A very productive session this has been. Your newfound love for slow shutter images is yielding great results.
That's charming, bet you didn't expect to get the finger while photographing. I wonder if it was a tourist. Nice video, Edinburgh's a nice city for the weekend.
Cracking , crisp and very interesting shots Gary 👍👍
Cheers Gaz 👍👍
Some of these really made me smile - the little one on Dad's shoulders holding the umbrella and the guy behind the book were two of them! 🙂
I love the movement photos, they really add to an image and story.

congratulations on reaching 100k subscribers, love the slow shutter speed photos 👍
Thank you 👍
Some really nice images of my home city - although I don't live there now. You covered a lot of ground in a few hours!
Really enjoyed this video Gary.

I think the guy hiding behind the book was in the witness protection programme. Almost busted! 😀
Great shots

This was a nice adventure. Loved the slow mo shots which I'll use when on the streets. You never disappoint.
Impressive what you got in a few hours of street walk. I especially like the gentleman with reflective sunglasses holding an umbrella - class.

Great video Gary. I don't do this type of photography but this has really inspired me to pull my finger out and hopefully do a lot more of it!

Hi Gary, thanks for the wander thru Edinburgh. Scotland, Wales and Ireland are on my bucket list. I have ancestry from Wales and Ireland.
Congratulations 100k subscribers! Great video, Great contents and Great photos👍👍👍🎉🎊🎈🥳

Another thoroughly enjoyable video Gary, when you were in the gallery it reminded me of when you Gareth and I were in the Tate in Liverpool..
Superb thank you Gary, a town I know well, but not been yet this year, until I saw this . Just arranging a visit in October.
We have been there several times Gary... Love the old commercial district... and yes, I have photographed the very same stairs. LOL
Cheers.

Great vlog Gary. As you featured in it so much , I thought you would have named it. ‘The Good, The Bad And The Ugly.’ 🤔

As always great video

Another great video and set of images, really enjoyed this, can I ask what lens you were using for this shoot? Looking forward to next week’s video.
Thanks for the reply Gary. It’s interesting that you’re using a zoom for street photography. I tend to shoot with a 24, 35 or 50mm prime.

Edinburgh castle esplanade work you noted would be the preparation for Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2024 starts 2nd August, great video thanks

24/120mm lens in this particular video. Images are definitely not over-saturated. My street images are barely touched in post-processing.
Cheers 👍👍
Love your videos Gary. Can you please share what lens you used for these photos? Did you use a prime lens or telephoto?
They were all captured using a 24-120mm lens. Hope that helps. 👍👍
@@GaryGough yes thank you.
I really enjoyed your photos, could you tell me what model of Nikon camera you used and what lens, thanks
I use the Nikon Z8 and 24/120 lens 👍👍
great images, I know someone who moved up there last year, he keeps telling me I should go up with my camera. This may have just persuaded me
The only problem with Edinburgh is that you'll always get a Piper!😀
Enjoy the images and your comments. What decision(s) did you make to render the image in color or B&W?
Edinburgh is a deeply characterful place. Interested to hear why you chose not to capture much of the place over people, who are found in all cities? Would have loved to see your take on landscapes given so much opportunity in Edinburgh.
Any photos of your parents on their Royal Enfield ❤❤
Greyfriars Bobby is such a sad story - they buried the owner still holding the dog’s lead!!
I see in front of the castle they're setting up the bleachers for the Military Tattoo👍
Do you have any rule/reason/thought on which photos you process in B&W or colour?
Big G Edinburgh is my favourite city i worked up there for years and have some great locations to shot later in the year u fancy coming along let me know (don’t worry a don’t want to be in the video)

If my memory serves me right that uninteresting building is locally known as the 'turd" due to the shape of the thing on the roof 😊
I always struggle with street photography. Should I ask people's permission to photograph them, this spoils the naturalness of the moment.
Hello, Gary. How’s things? Is it my impression or the young bloke holding a book gave you the middle finger?
The interesting building is a hotel at the st James quarter. Commonly referred to as the golden turd due to its resemblance to the poo emoji 💩
Cant believe you were in Edinburgh gutted.
I didn’t like most of your shots , you seemed to avoid closeness to people the distance from your subject shows . Have more guts .
