Could somebody inform younger people this song does NOT have or need the awful OOH AAH irritant in the lyrics. Unnecessary and a bloody contamination of a great song .
For a song that only held the #1 position on the Billboard charts for three weeks in 1962, it’s sure had a lasting impact - pep bands and sports arenas still play it nearly 60 years later. The song was written by Channel and his acquaintance Margaret Cobb when they were teenagers trying to create hits like they heard on the radio. Channel’s only other commercial success was a song called “Keep On,” which made the Top 40 in the U.K., but didn’t do much in the States.
That killer harmonica is Texan Delbert "Giving It Up (for your Love)" McClinton! When he toured Europe with Channel in 1962, a little quartet from Liverpool opened the shows. That's right, The Beatles! During down time, Delbert taught John Lennon harmonica tricks (Delbert calls then tips), which Lennon began using with The Beatles!
Remember that magic moment when I heard this song favorite coming out of Battersea Park Funfair funfair. It marked the last time I felt happy before decades of stress and mistakes arrived. How I wish I could back to that time with the knowledge I have now. God can be cruel sometimes.
What TV show was this from? I’m guessing Bell Telephone Hour, Perry Como’s Kraft Music Hall, the Tonight Show with Jack Paar, or maybe Dinah Shore’s show?
every time i hear this song, it brings nothing but a smile to my face! 😊❤
Class of 1962. We loved this song.

And in turn inspired a certain group to write and come out with their first single called "Love Me Do".
So beautiful! This song rocks
It does! O.G.! Anne Murray did a remake of it, and it sucks!
Nothing sucks like the OOOH AAH insertion. ERADICATE ERADICATE ERADICATE (Dalek voice).
