    Very pretty fish, but I personally have caught bigger on the Yellowstone River, thigh deep, 7W fly rod. Three native cutthroat, each over 18 inches! Oh, yes with an abcessed tooth! The thrill of the fish made the tooth pain disappear!

    Hi, Tristan….I learned of tenkara rods from you a few years ago. I mostly watch you on Suv rv’ing. I am so excited because a friend just bought me the Sierra Tenkara rod! I have not yet received it, but am so looking forward to watching more of your tenkara addict vids now to learn more of how to fish with it. I must tell you that you have had a great influence on me….all in good ways! Thanks!

    Okay, let's think back to October 2021 in a really little stream in Wyoming using the Dragontail Mizuchi with an 11 ft line...about 11 or so minutes into your video, you hooked into a BIG fish, and I quote from the soundtrack, "Oh my gosh, it's a monster! It's a monster! It's a monster! It's a monster!" And when you measured it, it was 17 inches. You were fishing one of those step-across streams and you pulled out a 17 inch trout! That was surprising and highly gratifying! The video heading was "Big Trout Here".

    • @TenkaraAddict
      @TenkaraAddict  ปีที่แล้ว

      That was probably the single most surprising catch I've had! I'm pretty sure that fish was a 16-incher, though, not 17. That's why I said the 17er here was my new personal best cutthroat. Thanks Robert!

    Sweet day on the creek indeed! And the Hellbender rod. Great rod and can handle all those fish with ease. I have that rod and it somehow reminds me of an old Sage sp 6wt. I have. Kinda sorta the same rod action. The Hellbender I reckon in the hands of someone knowing how to play fish efficiently can most likely handle trout in the 20" to 24" range. Mahalo for another great video flick. I always look forward to saturday!

    That was fun! Thank you again! I picked up a Hellbender a couple months ago and am looking forward to trying it out in some high elevation lakes n streams when time and weather miraculously line up again lol! It is Steelhead time too and I'd love to give them a go some time. I'm not sure if that's on your radar, but they do get into some small streams and look like a fun challenge. Northern CA coast trip! Enjoy your day Tristan!

    The upper sections of this stream, I am almost certain, are untouched and likely pristine sections of water. I once caught a gnarly tiger so high up there that I felt terrible because it must have been quite the ordeal through spring runoff to travel so many miles through some rough stream terrain.

    hi. have enjoyed your videos since taking up tenkara. Thanks for posting! quick question (more of a technique question than anything...) - how do you tell when you get a bite? i'm looking at your line (at 9:02 and 10:01) and there doesn't seem to be much movement at all. Are you looking for the slightest movement on your level line, or are you feeling for the tug on the rod? or is it just a matter of being able to actually see the fish take the fly under water?

  • @tenkaraintheiowadriftless
    @tenkaraintheiowadriftless ปีที่แล้ว

    “What a great place to fish!” Couldn’t agree more! Thanks for sharing. A question: Wouldn’t a creek with tiger trout by definition also hold browns and brookies too, since the tiger is a non-breeding hybrid of the two?

    • @TenkaraAddict
      @TenkaraAddict  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In this case, no. The tiger trout here are not naturally reproducing but are stocked into the lake that this creek flows into. Some of the planted lake fish make their way into the creek.

    • @TenkaraAddict
      @TenkaraAddict  ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on the size of water you'd want to fish. Since I'm a creek fisherman, I'd take one of the smaller triple zoom rods, something like the Dragontail Mizuchi, the Zen Tenkara Suzume, or the Tenkara USA Rhodo. Something that fishes in the roughly 8 to 11 ft range. I'd personally probably pick the Suzume out of those.
