I took my 25-year-old Tercel in for an inspection last month. It needed brakes. Last year it needed a light bulb. Buy a Toyota and take care of it... and it will live a very, very long life.
Unless you live in the rust belt! Down here in Florida, I lots lots of older cars still going. Cars from the 80's even. I recently saw a Toyota Corolla from the 70's cruising down the road! But where I grew in Upstate NY, within 10 years nearly every Toyota was just eaten up with rust. I guess all cars rusted out, but Toyota seem to rust more.
@@bradc7882 It really does depend. I bought a used 2007 Yaris, and didn't inspect the underside enough before buying. Muffler was rusted out with several holes. After being told I needed to replace the entire exhaust system while getting an inspection (not true, they were just lazy and didn't want to cut out and weld at all, and they would have turned around and sold the cat for a pretty penny plus the 1500 they were going to charge), I went under there and inspected the whole thing and there is a fair amount of rust on a good portion of the exhaust pipe, though no where near as bad as the muffler was. Anyways, the first owner apparently had been up in MA. Btw, took it to another place that was willing to cut out the muffler and worst rusted section of pipe, and literally only paid a 4th what the first place was going to charge (again, mostly because of the cat/c). I didn't mind paying that, because I still got a great deal on the car. The dealership was originally trying to sell it for almost 6k and I got it for 2, 400. It had been sitting there since August, being stick, having somewhat high miles, lol and being a Yaris (not a "sexy" car to most), they kept lowering the price. It sounds and runs great. Note to folks who don't know this. Apparently the old automotive trick of patching up mufflers/exhaust with fiberglass and water glass (sodium silicate) does not pass certain state inspections, cause that's what I did first, myself after going to the 1st place (you can patch up the rest of the pipe that way, but not the muffler itself). Thankfully I already had the materials on hand, and it was an easy/quick job, otherwise I would be kicking myself for the waste when it ended up still needing to be replaced.
I just bought a 2007 with 97,000 miles.I hope mine gets to here.I just got oil change and basic stuff done at the dealer didn't need it but wanted to freshen it up for my self.I Love my Toy.Thats her name God gave me this car . 😇
I bought my 2nd hand 2910 yaris n have not collect it yet. The milage is 11850km, I am going to start my journey, you guys give me the confidence I am buying the right thing!
I have been in the auto service / repair business for over 35 years and I can honestly say that the Asian cars and trucks ARE better. I wish I could say the American brands are of higher quality but I can't say that because I know what I see every day. The US brands ARE getting better and closing the gap but they are not there yet. I really don't think it's the labor assembling them because many camry's, corollas, accords etc are built here in the United States. I feel the quality difference is in engineering, design and the parts suppliers used.
I think alot of this has to do with his driving schedule. 400k miles when put on the car in a matter of 4 years isnt as bad as 400k put on the car in a matter of 20 years. Heat cycles have alot to do with it.... If you drive only 50 miles a day, VS 400 you would let the engine completely cool down, and get back up to operating temperature literally over 7,000 more times before you hit the same mileage. Obviously thats going to matter.... 7000 plus more cold starts which do accelerate engine wear, 7000 plus more times the starter has to work, etc... This is why alot of people will stress "Highway miles" when selling a vehicle with high milegage, becuase just cruising down the highway does less wear, then constantly cold starting, and stopping and going in regular town driving.
Agreed. Constant freeway driving causes very little wear on the drivetrain. A car that has 200k of strictly freeway driving vs a car that has 100k of in-town, stop and go driving is a night and day difference as far as wear on parts.
@Drew Taks the ford ranger easily does it. Had a buddy with well over 300,000 on his ranger. Same story as the yaris, only small part changes like alternator. It also spent most of its life in the country, so not all clean highway miles. Hills, snow, road salt, harsh conditions all its life. Toyotas aren't the only vehicles that do it.
i had a toyota echo with 410,000 miles on it, still ran great too until some idiot drunk in a tractor trailer hit me at a stop light. the car was mashed up but i still drove it for another month until the insurance got worked out.
my 96 Toyota Tercel is about to hit 400,000 miles and we have never replaced the engine, transmission ,clutch , alternator , anything realy except spark plugs fan belts and oil and tires ill have a video for it on my channel in 2000 miles
My wifes 2007 Yaris just hit 175K - so far we have only had to change the oil and replace the tires. I've been expecting to need to do something soon, but so far - so good.
***** I had the plugs done as part of regular maint. schedule at 100K, but haven't had the flush done - good idea, thanks! I should probably get the transmission screen cleaned and fluid changed while I'm at it.
itsmegp46 My wife is a nurse and makes better money commuting to the city from our home in the country. It adds up quick, which is why she drives a Yaris. No car we know of lasts as long and still gets great gas mileage. We have ordered an Elio, but they won't start making them until next year.
I love Toyota especially the Yaris. Japanese cars are always tough as hell it works hard and never let you down it can go even more than 1 million mile and further more with no problem at all
I cut off the upper (permanent) air filter. Just have K&N now. I constantly check the air box area behind the filter (the upper part) and notice it's completely clean, there's no even dust. So ... it's safe and also the car breaths easily now, I can go up to 115mph. But my MPG is not good as I expected - 35mpg => LOW !!! (where I live and go to school, there're all highways). I don't know if it's because my 07Yaris is 135k mile old, or I drive it 90-100mph most of the time. Good luck with yours^^
This happens mainly on manual transmission. My friend's automatic yaris is running but in bad condiotion even though it went through good maintenance schedule.
What's really impressive is that you still have a spine. I once drove a Yaris from Miami to Hartford CT, and can only say one thing...Never again in such small and uncomfortable car. It's a nice city/town car but not a highway cruiser.
What can of job you do? I know here in FL you can put many miles on a car but that amount is out of range. Why the airbag light is on? did you crash the car? how many set of tire you put in that car? how many times you fill your gas tank a day?
Just hit 105k miles driven hard same motor but in a 05 scion xa. Hope to see at least 200k even though I have literally no oil blow by nor excessive wear.
UPDATE?? I just bought a 2008 Yaris for only a thousand bucks that has two hundred and eighty thousand miles on it and it still looks like brand new and runs like a champ
my husband's 1995 toyota camry le v6 has 371400 miles and has gone over 135mph idk if its good or save to go that fast in high miles but the car does it all the time and still keeps going
Your clutch history is 448,000, 474,000 & 506,000 with your second clutch lasting 26,000 and third lasting 32,000. Were your second and third clutches used, genuine or non genuine parts?
2nd & 3rd clutch were replaced with an ACT but I made a mistake and used back the original pressure plate as it felt fine... But then realized I needed to chg it after the 3rd time... I'm currently using a custom carbon/Kevlar street disc with a HD pressure plate.
I have a Yaris and it's better than my G6 I owned. I only do basic repairs. I'm at 154900 miles and I heard they can go over 400k miles. I love Toyota.

Just put 485 000 kms on my 2004 Sienna awd. Have only replaced shocks and rear springs front brakes 3 times and back twicel. Run flats tires are garbage but went with regular Michelin tires Xice and defender in summer and never had another problem. Also I replace battery often as they are cheap and also oils myself and often. Seats are worn out now and doors have had some issues. Time for a new one if something major goes.
my 02 Echo just hit the million km mark and the odometer stopped at 999,999km..the trip meter even stopped working. Gonna retire it in a couple weeks for a 2008 Yaris

bpurdy305 if you ask me, a good combination for Toyota would be a 6.7L Cummins motor in a Toyota Tundra. Toyota is built to last 1,000,000 miles and then some, and Cummins is built to last 1,000,000 miles and then some. That would make a great combo.
If I may ask, is the car still running? Whats the mileage now? Also, if you could please tell us what you do for a living to get so many miles so quickly. I think it's cool you can do that
Bcuz I was changing my oil every 10 days, I decided to use Walmart Super Tech Synthetic oil. And to this at 588k miles, the car is still running without touching the engine.
Back in February this year I picked up a 2010 2 door AT Hatchback with TWELVE Thousand miles. Paid $7200 out the door. 36 MPG solid, every single time I fill the tank. Not a single rattle. Even though its not the sexiest looking car in the world, I felt like I won the lottery when I bought this one. I remember joking with my son (who's a Toyota tech), calling them a "Shitbox"....he warned me they were far, far from that....fact.
I haven't gotten the time to do a new video. I'm so use to turning high miles, that I only take pics of the odometer every 50k miles. Right now I have 550,000+ which I did on 2/12/16.
I had to replace the clutch so soon because I replaced the OEM with an ACT 6 puck ceramic clutch kit which ate into my flywheel very fast and it wasn't biting anymore. So when I replaced that ACT with another ACT 6 puck clutch kit, I didn't replace the flywheel when should have. So, I had to go back in for the 3rd time to put in a new flywheel and Competition Race clutch kit.
Legend says this car is still on the road...
Legends are right! Yes, it's still on the road and hoping to install a turbo kit on it soon with the high mileage on it.
@skbuoy My Yaris currently has 575,000 miles on it and still running without any major issues.

Bcuz I was changing my oil every 10 days, I decided to use Walmart Super Tech Synthetic oil. And to this at 588k miles, the car is still running without touching the engine.

@@gdu370 Thanks for the update.... 😊😊
I remember joking with my son (who's a Toyota tech), calling them a "Shitbox"....he warned me they were far, far from that....fact.
dude, you drove so much I think your commute is at least 1,000 miles each day lol
Will you upload a new video with the updates? :)
I haven't gotten the time to do a new video. I'm so use to turning high miles, that I only take pics of the odometer every 50k miles. Right now I have 550,000+ which I did on 2/12/16.
why did you have to replace the clutch twice in under 70,000 miles?
I had to replace the clutch so soon because I replaced the OEM with an ACT 6 puck ceramic clutch kit which ate into my flywheel very fast and it wasn't biting anymore. So when I replaced that ACT with another ACT 6 puck clutch kit, I didn't replace the flywheel when should have. So, I had to go back in for the 3rd time to put in a new flywheel and Competition Race clutch kit.
oh wow..
what is the car at now?
