fun fact about the development of Mario galaxy 1 and 2. Miyamoto believes Video games don’t need to have stories, all that matters is if the game is fun to play. Which is why most Mario games don’t have much of a story. Where as Koizumi believes that a story enhances a game. Koizumi studied film and had a big grasp on Galaxy 1 which is why it had such a cinematic and “epic” opening story. Miyamoto had a bigger grasp on the sequel, Mario galaxy 2. Which in return had way better levels then the first game, but had a very weak story. Watching both openings back to back makes it very apparent. Koizumi also had a big hand in Mario odyssey, which also has a very cinematic story.
I agree with Koizumi. Miyamoto needs to understand that that’s one of many reasons why their games get called lazy (NOT BORING). Yes, Miyamoto has a point and the games are fun imo, but I feel like a story just adds extra OOMPH that is absent in a lot of Nintendo-ESPECIALLY Mario-games.
I feel like 3D All Stars was a lazy way to do it, however, I appreciate the game's existence and allowing newer players to experience these games. The biggest problem I have with it is it missing Galaxy 2. Sure, I have more, smaller annoyances, like the menuing and box art, the limited time for digital, etc, but the fact that we could have had all the previous 3D Mario games all on the same platform would be amazing, and a great selling point for the Switch, however, the point cant be made as well without Galaxy 2. It's close to being fantastic, but if the devs had taken the time to put the extra oomph in, it would be, and they didnt.
@@calespeight9087 well, the WiiU didn't sell well, and the games should still be able to be enjoyed, so I feel its a little more justified for 3D World. At least they are giving us a clear enhanced version of it, with Bowser's Fury, faster movement, etc. With 3D All Stars, it really feels like just a port.
Cale Speight i just don't get Mario ports adding in a minigame and calling it a remake, seems like an excuse to not add anything to the main game. Though, I might be soured by Mario&luigi 's extra content being lackluster in general.
As someone who played Sunshine and galaxy when I was like 9, I love being able to play them 7 years later on a new consol to experience them again. Turns out they're alot easier then younger me thought.
This is a really nice video! It’s nice to hear from someone who started with a Wii U since I’m someone who grew up with a Wii for a few years before getting the Wii U myself. I personally think that Eyerock is a good boss, but he’s the only good one in Mario 64. And overall I’d be more willing to excuse the lazier aspects of this collection if they included Mario Galaxy 2 because it’s my personal favorite 3D Mario. Galaxy 1 may have better presentation, but Galaxy 2 has better design, a higher difficulty, more creative ideas, and Yoshi just adds so much to the gameplay to the point that I would take 2 over 1 any day.
"Special thanks to Viddy's Vids" Woah, that was really funny to see for some reason. I've watched the review in a single go and I've got to say, it's been very well made. I think this collection could have also been better if it had Super Mario 64 DS, the supreme version of the game. The models are better, they added tons of characters, they remodeled a lot of models limited by the hardware, and added more enemies.
I actually grew up with 64 DS. No clue if it’s the supreme version, since both have their ups and downs. Still, 64 DS was a fantastic remake of the original.
Wow, I've never seen this much effort and care into a video like this before from your channel. You're improving a lot and a lot with your videos. Fantastic job
Just wanna say thanks for commissioning me on animating Bowser and showing it at the end credits! Also, great video! Couldn't imagine how long this took to make with all the research and edit
Really, speaking of the Wii, you could play all of these games there, with 64 being $10, Galaxy being $20, and Sunshine being... Probably $20 considering Player's Choice. Galaxy 2 could also be picked up for the Wii for $20, which would've made a collection of the 4 games $70. Instead, we get just 3 of them for $60, a $50 value.
Ay just wanted to say this was a great video. Games were analyzed fairly with points that were clear and to the point most of the time. Editing was solid. Some humor thrown in. This was a great review for someone who’s never actually played Mario 64 or sunshine. It’s really brave of you too criticize and honestly review such beloved titles. So many people can’t look back on their favorite games with a critical light. Great review (s)!
Fun video. I played 64 and sunshine for the first time with the switch collection and felt the opposite of you. I found 64 to be extremely frustrating and slippery, and the camera of course is infuriating. On the other hand, despite some jank, I had a lot of fun with sunshine and found it's theming very charming.
Dunno why this has so little views compared to the pvz content. Glad to see you change up your content, please don't pressure yourself to be "The PvZ" guy because this is pretty great!
Before watching this, according to the cutting room floor, the upscaled mario sunshine textures were found in a folder called ''Lazy_Texture_Replace'' or something like that. Just saying...
Good video love to see a younger persons take on games I grew up with. Something important to keep in mind when going back to play these original titles is that they were well before the archetypes of games were so set in stone and well known. These were also the days of seeing things truly done for the first time, which is not something someone who grew up with post 2010 titles will experience very often, or ever. Peaches castle and the game as a whole, for instance, was (is) absolutely mind bogglingly impressive for someone who came from Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3, and Super Mario World. I literally can’t fathom how difficult it must be for someone to be impressed by these things when they never experienced a world without millions of polished, cheap, and available on demand titles.
A great example of this disparity is your assertion that you’re bumped out of levels to “pad out game time.” This game was made in an era where most games, start to finish (if you do a perfect run) were quite short, and an era where losing actually meant something. Like in the original Mario you literally go back to the beginning of the game when you lose, compared to just hitting continue in modern Mario. Why? Because you were actually “punished” for losing, and so you can eventually gain the satisfaction of conquering the whole game in one run. This was also well before the era of consumers expecting/wanting games to be very lengthy, so the motivation of trying to lengthen the game doesn’t really make sense. The real answer is, in 1996, when you died in a video game - it meant something, they make you do the level again. Completely bog standard. Modern video games feel like playing retro titles with save states, they’re so forgiving it’s insane.
When I got the game I had just finished Mario Galaxy a few months before on my old wii. I mostly wanted this for sunshine because I wanted sunshine really badly but couldn’t get a GameCube. It’s a really great game and I also tried our Mario 64 and I need like 10 more stars to finish it
Fun fact: the international version of the game called "King Boo" in Sunshine was actually called "Boss Boo" in Japan. So, this design of "King Boo" was designed with a different character in mind.
props to you for beating all three of them, i beat galaxy, maybe half of 64 before giving up, and got 2 shrines in sunshine because i didn't know where to go. guess i know now and i can go back to it. the second shrine was weirdly hard due to the controls lol
this game showed a lot of potential, i got it and said "i can just play these games on my Wii u... whats the point" Also, the games are emulated versions... Pretty lazy if you ask me. I think a better idea would to remake these games in Odyssey's engine, because in my opinion, it forces nintendo to think out of the box (making sm64 stages to fit with Odyssey)
its not lazy to emulate the games they don't need to be ported from the ground up and would probably not work that well and even if it did some people want to play the original game
I recently got 3DAS and I love it (and by “it” I mean “Sunshine and Galaxy”). Despite having a Wii and easy access to the PC port of 64 (with tons of QoL mods), it’s neat being able to play these games on the go officially, as well as officially having them in widescreen and 1080p. My preferred way to play Sunshine now is actually the 3DAS version with a GameCube controller and adapter. I also like how they kept the charm of the demo videos on Galaxy. However, this port leaves a LOT to be desired and I don’t think there was any excuse for its issues, and Nintendo ABSOLUTELY needs to do better in the future.
Great video, but at 31:14 I would not consider the idea that Super Mario Galaxy is the best of the 3 games unanimous. Many fans would consider Mario 64 to be the best of this collection because of its legacy and open world. Still an amazing game though.
I didn't grow up with nintendo. I didn't care about the N64 as a kid. I was mainly into PlayStation's legend of dragoon and Crash bandicoot more then a plumber that jumps. But as I got older my friends keep telling me how "Deep" and "Exciting" and "Mature" the Nintendo games are. And I replied with a "Holly shit they looked like Baby games when I was a kid was I purhaps wrong?" I grabbed a controller and played Pokemon for the first time and... "Wow... This is worse then I thought.. why can't I have my pokemon follow me around?" "Play Pokemon black!" "Can your pokemon follow you cause they should in the year 2010s?" "Um no..." "Then it's garbage next game" Ok next game is legend of Zelda breath of the wild "Oh this opening is similar to Fallout 3 I love Fallout 3..... Where is everything?" "Well it's mostly open spac-" "Genshin impact didn't cost me 60 and it has better graphics and more characters then this next" Metroid this game looks like Halo I like Halo "So why not buy it?" "Why should I the other 2 games sucked" Animal crossing "this looks stupid" Smash bros "I hate fighting games" Mario 3D all stars "Forget it-" "Oh wait there's a time limit!" ".... You're kidding me...." *One gameplay session latter* "Okay... The first game sucked galaxy made me nauseous but.... Sunshine was actually pretty fun"
Honestly the hugest mistake is not including Galaxy 2 or 64DS which would've made this a steal. Honestly if you just ported DS, Sunshine, Galaxy, and Galaxy 2 without improving framerate or anything, I would've bought this. Sadly, we got none of that and now I'm sad and don't regret not buying this.
Mario galaxy 1 and 2 were legit my childhood. Also 3D world was what I had when I was a little older so now I wanna buy a switch purely to get 3D world
Sadly i didn't play these games no where in my childhood just wanna play these games like super mario odyssey,Super mario SunShine,Super Mario Galaxy and etc but i don't have A console or the equipment to buy them hiw do you even afford them :(
10:58 - Pretty simple explanation for that actually. That's _literally_ the sound they used for him back then. They just took 1 of the "mountain lion" sounds from a sound library then pitched it up. ( If you're curious, you can find more info here: th-cam.com/video/zvlt5L51prI/w-d-xo.html )
I personally don't really like Super Mario Galaxy and prefer 64 and Sunshine, but I'm glad you got to experience these games despite how clunky most of them were. I still have those games myself, only reason I got them on the Switch was so I could take them on the go with me.
-I thought it was so long, eh bowser? -Bro. Wet Dry World was an enigma to me. -Suck it Luigi's Mansion 3 -It took me 300 deaths to figure out rockets were on the track for some reason -All the character design changes are due to regional differences. Like pokemon. -I love sunshine but that death montage hurt. -Woah woah buddy. Technical limitations were a real thing when both 64 and sunshine was a brand new thing. The fact that nintendo didn't remedy any of the flaws is the problem. There are modern day fixes for those past limitations. I'm confused at the naming of other titles on the gamecube that don't even meet the same genre as Sunshine. Compare another sandbox platformer on the gamecube. -Galaxy was so gorgeous. Mostly due to the change of design and pace. Smaller scaled levels. Made me jaded as a kid. I gotta go back and play Galaxy again -It's more of a prequel to 3D Land.
Jeez man, i remember when u first made the PvZ 3 vid, and u had so much less subs. I don’t remember the exact number, but I remember before u got so many subs
huh, super mario sunshine is the first 3d platformer i played (on the switch in only 15) but i enjoy it a lot, i haven't beat it yet cause im trying to 100% before i beat bowser but it's been a blast, i have had to use tutorials for a few levels, but honestly some of the bugs in the game actually kinda help the experience, like fruit storage, incredibly easy and incredibly useful, I find the flood a worthwhile addition due to the complexity it adds to normal standard mario platforming. And stating the game is unfair does seem a bit unreasonable since you can skip a lot of difficult stages, the game will make you go trough some but you can skip a lot of em. But what you said about the blue coins is true it just feels like padding, it makes it really difficult to 100% the game and i've always hated collectable fetching, it's a reason why i've never reached the true ending of batman arkham knight, there's just so many riddler quest. so yeah it is flawed but i'd say it's worth a play
Thank you all for waiting so long! This was a huge project that I had a blast making. And to answer the question, Crazy or Lazy? That's up for you to decide. You know my opinions on each game, but you are the final verdict. I will see you all in 2021 =). Take care.

At 11:32 my first thought was “wait Luigi’s mansion 3 had a soundtrack?”
Still have my 2008 save on my wii. I played this game for a ridiculous amount of time as a kid.
props to you for beating all three of them, i beat galaxy, maybe half of 64 before giving up, and got 2 shrines in sunshine because i didn't know where to go. guess i know now and i can go back to it. the second shrine was weirdly hard due to the controls lol
Nintendo knew it was lazy, So they made it a limited edition so they can increase sales Because of FOMO (Fear of missing out)
Might as well flip off your customers
Yea I love ur videos, I’m doing a marathon of all your videos, u have talent
i love how the intro title knocks him to the floor very funny
Toy time galaxy was my favorite galaxy when I was young! I still love it
Oh, so I'm NOT the only person that hasn't played those games prior to getting 3D All-Stars.
When Jr calls Peach his mama, I kinda wish she said something like "oh no...not another one..."
The hilarious hypocrisy of Danerade (Bowser) disowning Jr., when his voice is even more ridiculous by comparison is gold.
20:09 those are Alolan forms of the enemies!
this game showed a lot of potential, i got it and said "i can just play these games on my Wii u... whats the point" Also, the games are emulated versions...
@TrainerblueTube yeah ik
Mario 64 DS review? (I really loved the game tbh)
When playing sunshine, I got stuck ON a shine. Couldn't move, couldn't collect it
You are really put a huge amount of work in you're video don't stop ples😃
Watch as on March 31st as they released super Mario 3D all stars DELUX with Mario Galaxy 2 and Mario 3D Land added to it
Great video, but at 31:14 I would not consider the idea that Super Mario Galaxy is the best of the 3 games unanimous. Many fans would consider Mario 64 to be the best of this collection because of its legacy and open world. Still an amazing game though.
I am interested if you’ll ever pick up and talk about galaxy 2
scottposting earns you a sub
emulated smg4: 1080p, fullscreen, baked in lighting, mods
3d Allstars smg4: 720p, 4:3, dated camera, n64 lighting
Sonic Origins is dying of laughter right now.
I love the fact that too this day Amazon still has some of the European version left in stock
I've only played Galaxy and played 64 through the Wii U's virtual console so being able to play sunshine for the first time was great
I just noticed this. Bowser jr in sunshine sounds like bart simpson.
"God forbid If we kill in a mario game..." ahem oragami king! Bobby
So wait if emulation is bad should I not get dolphin emulator?
Emulation isn't bad because it is the only way to preserve older games that would never be able to get released.
How are you supposed to do a spin in galaxy on a lite
1:24 this entire collection is emulation
I didn't grow up with nintendo.
I didn't care about the N64 as a kid.
I was mainly into PlayStation's legend of dragoon and Crash bandicoot more then a plumber that jumps.
But as I got older my friends keep telling me how "Deep" and "Exciting" and "Mature" the Nintendo games are.
And I replied with a "Holly shit they looked like Baby games when I was a kid was I purhaps wrong?"
I grabbed a controller and played Pokemon for the first time and... "Wow... This is worse then I thought.. why can't I have my pokemon follow me around?"
"Play Pokemon black!" "Can your pokemon follow you cause they should in the year 2010s?" "Um no..." "Then it's garbage next game"
Ok next game is legend of Zelda breath of the wild "Oh this opening is similar to Fallout 3 I love Fallout 3..... Where is everything?" "Well it's mostly open spac-" "Genshin impact didn't cost me 60 and it has better graphics and more characters then this next"
Metroid this game looks like Halo I like Halo "So why not buy it?" "Why should I the other 2 games sucked"
Animal crossing "this looks stupid"
Smash bros "I hate fighting games"
Mario 3D all stars "Forget it-" "Oh wait there's a time limit!" ".... You're kidding me...."
*One gameplay session latter*
"Okay...
Also 3D world was what I had when I was a little older so now I wanna buy a switch purely to get 3D world
I just remembered, I never played these games. What what's that soun- *gunshot* *small splash sound* *thud*
if you dont like emulation why does the luigis mansion gameplay have a windows mouse pointer? just curious is all
Really diggin the Scott the Woz clip used to describe the viewers here. Someone knows who our TH-cam lord and savior is
Quick question where did you get your game cube from
Fun fact: There are still copies of this game still available at my local Walmart
Sadly i didn't play these games no where in my childhood just wanna play these games like super mario odyssey,Super mario SunShine,Super Mario Galaxy and etc but i don't have
A console or the equipment to buy them hiw do you even afford them :(
10:58 - Pretty simple explanation for that actually.
That's _literally_ the sound they used for him back then.
They just took 1 of the "mountain lion" sounds from a sound library then pitched it up.
( If you're curious, you can find more info here: th-cam.com/video/zvlt5L51prI/w-d-xo.html )
1:17 i remember playing mario 64 on the wii u virtual console, but apart from that, i feel you
Honestly I'd rather emulate older games on the Wii or Wii u than the switch, which sucks
Dude, you are literally the best youtuber
I personally don't really like Super Mario Galaxy and prefer 64 and Sunshine, but I'm glad you got to experience these games despite how clunky most of them were. I still have those games myself, only reason I got them on the Switch was so I could take them on the go with me.
Love your content 💪🏻🦔
-I thought it was so long, eh bowser?
-Bro. Wet Dry World was an enigma to me.
-Suck it Luigi's Mansion 3
-It took me 300 deaths to figure out rockets were on the track for some reason
-All the character design changes are due to regional differences.
I gotta go back and play Galaxy again
-It's more of a prequel to 3D Land.
Why no galaxy 2 :’(
actually u know what,I play galaxy 2 on wii first and I don't have galaxy 1 on wii now I have both :D
But what you said about the blue coins is true it just feels like padding, it makes it really difficult to 100% the game and i've always hated collectable fetching, it's a reason why i've never reached the true ending of batman arkham knight, there's just so many riddler quest. so yeah it is flawed but i'd say it's worth a play
can't lie that front cover is better! 43:06
This channel is an underrated gem holy shit, I've been binging your videos all day. I can't wait to see you blow up!!
