I was a US Civil War living historian and my regiment used the 53 Enfield, both in the real regiment and in our impression. Awesome weapon that has an entire additional history in the US and elsewhere in the world.

As Rob noted, but worth mentioning:
    - Cabin Fever Challenge is open to ANYONE who can safely handle a firearm, regardless of your local weather
    - Divisions exist for everything from Black Powder, to rimfire, to modern semi-autos
    - BritishMuzzleLoaders is renown for excellent production quality, but all that is required is a cell phone camera
I highly recommend checking out other CFC entries (from this year or previous years) and get out there and try it yourself!
(PS: Nice shooting, filming, and editing Rob!)

This intro was excellent sir!! Mackenzie might be an old grumbler (so too was Napoleon's old guard) but he's been in the army for quite a while now and made a career of it. I wonder if someone had dealt with a similarly accented Quebecois sergeant back in his army days.

  • @HarryFlashmanVC

100% agree with you on the Pritchett bullet type. In the 1980s I used to regularly shoot an original P53 (an old Crimean gun) over here in Scotland, my grandfather used it as his deer hunting rifle up till the 1950s! We didn't use a cartridge so its really jntereating to see the paper blanks and your attention to detail is extremely impressive. The narrower calibre of the bullet was 'patched' with some regular paper when we shot the rifle, we did have some oversized bullets that needed a good deal of grease and peening to get into the bore... my late grandfather's design but by the time we were shooting this gun it was 150 years old and a lighter charge and looser bullet made for a less 'tense' experience!
Its been 30 years since I shot a P53 and my Grandfather's original is now on the wall at my mother's, its shooting days ended by Her Majesty's Inspectors but I am thinking about buying a reproduction and shooting at our local black powder club.

    Well done!
Rob, if you like shooting muskets while on snowshoes you should come to the primitive biathlons in Vermont next year.
Every year there are a handful of competitions around Vermont and New Hampshire. The competition is a timed run (march?) on snowshoes of a mile and a half. There are four shooting stations, nine shots total. You are shooting at metal gongs, and each hit knocks five minutes off your time.
People compete in modern clothes or 17th/18th/19th c outfits, using everything from matchlocks to percussion rifles.
There are generally other stationary shooting competitions as well.
    I think you’d have a (round) ball.

Hey, Rob. Your videos are always a inspiration.
My beloved dad dies before one year. Cancer... I miss him every day.
He was gunsmith, target shooter, but first of all, Gun and ammo collector. I got his collection. And, here Germany, everything with guns is a problem, I sold a few. But the for me importend, I owned. A lot of German guns, but two british. A long Snider and a Martini-Henry carbine. At moment, I'm thinking about a new project. Buying reloading dies and brass.
That should distract me from the fact, that we are about to get a tightening of gun laws again...

I look forward to your annual CFC all winter. Sorry you had rain with your snow. Hilarious as usual. I had to be careful not to wake anyone I was laughing so hard.. Good shooting too! This can only mean one thing, more shooting with the P53.
