@@mouldy5156 Yeah you would need to add a mad ass SFX, and tone down the hi hats in random parts of the track just for variation. But yeah you pretty much summed up German tekno
One question: When you have a big ass kick like that, do you add a sub to your basses or not at all? Keep up the good work Zen! Paradox soundbank is amazing
Watching this reminds me of every time i get in the studio with a producer pal and share individual tactics you both use, also refreshing to see how someone else goes about it.
Thanks for everything man. If you could make a tutorial on hi-hat grooves like the ones in Latmun's Footsteps and Trippy Feeling, it would be amazing. I just can't figure out how he does them.
Shout out from Australia, sick as channel bro! Only discovered you a few weeks back and been hooked! Got myself Ableton, Serum and the Paradox soundset, not getting anywhere fast but having a blast :) Keep up the killer content!
Can you explain something to me.. at like 2:25 you mention you "anchor the kick at -6db". I'm kind of familiar with what you're doing in the sense that I assume you're giving yourself some headroom, but I'm just not sure what that does, as I use Reaper. Does it limit the kick to no higher than -6db? Or does it act as an expander and bring it up to -6db? Or both? Or something else? Thanks!
You plan on doing a start to finish like this in the Anjunadeep style (aka melodic techno/house) like you've been doing a lot of videos on lately to support your sound pack?
Hey Zen, was wondering if you can for example automate that cutoff in Serum since i hear a lot of songs for example from the label Afterlife where they get any melody and they do an orgy on it. I have no idea how it's done and i was wondering if you can share some insight. It sounds exactly like an automation of the cutoff that you did in the last couple of minutes on this video.. How the melody goes from normal to being i don't even know what that is..
just touch the cutoff filterknob with your mouse in serum an select serum in the device menu of the track . Then you select the filter cutoff in the parameter automation menu and you can start writing your automation. (edit: it automatically selects the parameter and the device (in this case serum) when you click on it with your mouse)
New subscriber here, love the videos! keep it up :) qq - Why put the kick at -6dB in the beginning? is it for your ear's sake or is that a mixing best practice?
its a thing for mixing so that everything is gain staged at -6 db since the kick should be the loudest part of the drop and everything would either be -6 or lower in volume so it doesn't clip and the volume can be increased during the mastering without the fear that it will clip after adding volume from the limiter
I think what is missing is the fact that your kick is in key of g and so is your bass note. Most people would initially think that but you should look at the circle of fifths and refer to that when to tune the key of your kick and bass vise versa. In this case you used the kick in the key of g and should have used the root D for the bass note. If you do this it will bring a lot more life out of the kick. T ry this. I think this would help a lot for when you are struggling finding the right sound using multiple octaves still not finding that right vibe.
Where do you find the sample audio he is using? Like the kick, hi hat etc. I bought the Paradox pack but only a handful of kinda random sounds were included, along with the (very nice) Serum presets.
One more subscriber for you!. So great how you give your knowledge away. Soon I will be buying ypur EVO sounds too. Too bad you don't live in Amsterdam. Would be great to get some courses. Anyway, Will check this latest one out. Also if ever you want to make something psy- trance, or maybe you have that already and I missed it. Would be very appreciated from my side! Great way of teaching. Thanks Zen.
cool content man but I have been noticing that you are getting less views nowadays , I feel sad for u , but don't give up man youll do great and are helping a lot of producers , Love from Nepal Man !!!!!
Random question but how do you define Techno in words? Like I know what it sounds like but I have trouble defining it in words to someone, especially in a way that distinguishes it from house and trance or anything else that's 4 to the floor pretty much
"If you hear something that you'd never expect to hear - that's techno. If you hear something that kind of sounds like you've heard it before - then it's not techno. So the whole idea of techno is to make something unimaginable." Jeff Mills from History of House
Mate! watching your vids for a while now and learnt a lot ! But please do something with your mic , satured from Time to Time , probably too much of energy !
I really like to hear the sounds of the track, but your voice is really loud because microphone seems to be super close to you. Don't mean to be rude, but that makes it a bit hard to watch, because I have to make your voice really quiet and the sounds way up.

Yeah, there are just 7 notes and all, but for now this track sounds very similar to Run level Zero - Shadows Merging. ( th-cam.com/video/44rognR5NjQ/w-d-xo.html )
Nice one. You are amazing.
It's done already. Just loop it for 7 mins.
If you're from Berlin you can do it for 14 minutes.

Latmun has a beatport tutorial special breaking down that very song himself, he touches on the hats too. Search it on TH-cam
Anthony Giovanni Thanks, but I’ve already seen it. He talks about the hats only superficially, doesn’t show how he made the groove at all
Start to finish series f... yeah, please make trance and psychedelic ones as well
