      Right? Our work truck (05 sierra) doesn't even have a cassette player, vinyl seats, V6, not even adjustable mirror (have to press on the mirrors to adjust. Couldn't believe how basic this regular cab short box truck was. Manual roll down windows, AM FM, radio. 4 speakers, bench seat, 4x2. I'm surprised it has hub caps. But it works, and the surprise I found while doing a diff service is it has a limited slip differential. Only 80k km, so it should last for years to come. Live in Vancouver where they don't salt the roads, rust free.

      It’s a foot shorter than my old 2008 Dodge Ram. 5ft vs 6.4ft bed. And it’s about 10 inches of less shoulder room inside but in some areas it’s actually bigger! And it weighs less as well 4270 vs 4889lbs. Same towing capacity 3500 vs 3450. Payload is a little down 1487 vs 1710. But power is up 210 vs 237 and torque is up 242 vs 259. I would say it’s basically even maybe a little bit better since it’s lighter.

    I’m the guy that all ways base the base truck,so my wife of 35 years can have the heated ,leather etc suv! My 02 Silverado ext cab 5.3 liter is a WT, I bought it new and it’s still like new, I take very good care of my vehicles! I bought a new 2022 Toyota SR5 2 wheel drive WT, I payed it off and bought something a little more upgraded to me, I traded my Tacoma off on a new Colorado Trail Boss, they gave me 30k for my Tacoma I payed 26,500 new,only put 2900 miles on it, my Trail Boss is the best truck I’ve ever owned and first 4x4,,,, their is one thing you could do with that 4x4 WT and that’s put some aggressive off road tires on those steel wheels it would look awesome, I put more aggressive off road tires on my TB and it looks perfect, I’ll have my new truck payed in full by December! I can’t wait, and it sits in the garage outta the Arizona sun and it’s not my daily so I won’t be forced to put thousands of miles on it every year!

    - the current Colorado is only available as a crew cab w/ the short bed so if like me you'd want a longer length bed and also don't need the extra seating capacity, you're simply outta luck and forced to go up to a Silverado for $10k more (new).. I do though like the simple, utilitarian vibe of it a lot though.

    The best part about this, you can pay your Chevy dealer something like $500 and get the full 310hp/430tq of the ZR2 spec engine as it's just a tune, mechanically all 3 engine options are identical. I also noticed there is oil pressure and transmission temperature gauges in the instrument screen, that is a nice addition for a mid-size truck. This base model engine tune seemed slower than a Tacoma (it is less powerful than a Tacoma which is 278hp/265tq), obviously it will be downright quick if you get the dealer tune. Not much drama at full throttle though, whereas the Tacoma sounds like it's blasting down the back straight of a racetrack when you get on it haha.

    • @dawsongranger4940
      @dawsongranger4940 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You can’t get the dealer tune with the lowest output engine, only with the 390 torque version. There are mechanical differences between the lowest spec engine and the upgraded version

    • @TedwardDrives
      @TedwardDrives  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Dawson is correct. The WT uses the L2R engine which lacks some of the the more intense oiling found in the L3B used across the rest of the lineup. No tune available

    This truck is a flashback for me to my child and teen years. All trucks were utilitarian. I am visualizing C-10s, F-150s and more. My first car was almost a 1977 Dodge panel van in about 1990. It had a radio and that was about it. It got you there with lots of stuff and that was the job-period. The phrase was "Church on Sunday and Market on Monday."
    Though the interior with Car Play etc is tech that would never have been seen in my old panel van.

    These base stripped trucks prove that they COULD be simpler but aren’t simply because it would cost the manufacturer more to tool up with parts they no longer use. Roll up windows, a simple Bluetooth/AUX radio etc. Hell, even a single cab long bed. It’s cheaper to use the current parts bin filled with touchscreens, power features, cloth interiors, and a crew cab body. A real cheap base work truck would be cheap for the buyer, but the manufacturer will lose money on each one sold at ~$20k+. It sucks but they aren’t in it to lose.

      I have a 2009 Canyon with the 5.3. It would be cool to see that, and for GM to give more enthusiasm to possibly the last generation of ICE before the inevitable EV trucks. Some sort of final sendoff for enthusiasts to relish in the deep history of the LS-series, etc. But the market doesn't really care about that I guess. Only thing is, these new trucks don't really give off a raw, high-performance vibe - maybe it's the techy CUV-esque interior - but I'm sure they could do something to pull off a coherent look.
      Personally - the new trucks are bigger than the GMT355 and won't fit in my garage, so I'll keep my 12 MPG city 😬 and X-pipe exhaust

No telescoping wheel, no center arm rest in the rear, halogen lights. When you're talking $45k for a vehicle - it's really not acceptable and it makes GM vehicles a step below the competition.

    Crazy that it's a "work truck"...with a mandatory short bed and giant cab. Most people using this for work will be driving alone or with one other person max and need the extra bed space. The work truck model should automatically be a long bed version IMO. Let every other trim level be crew cab & short bed. Very odd that Chevy of all companies screwed this up.

    its sad that this couldnt be an actual work truck with legit bare-bones features. if it cost like 5k less it would be cool, but at its current price its only $1000 cheaper than a 4wd v6 tacoma

    Auto start/stop & lane assist is garbage! Thankfully you can turn them off when driving!

    • @Ben-jz3mt
      @Ben-jz3mt ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Auto start stop just wears the engine down faster anyways since most of the wear and tear is on startup. Not worth the extra few MPGs. Lane keep assist is dumb too. We need to learn to drive, not have a computer do it for us.

    Work truck and short bed shouldn't be in the same sentence...

  • @lorimcquinn3966
    @lorimcquinn3966 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Not a functional truck, load height is too tall for ease of sliding in sheet goods and equipment. Bed is too short for any sizable items you would need a truck to haul, no options for longer bed. Over priced for a basic truck. Gearshift on floor takes up too much space, leave it on column. Leave the non-mandated safety nanny devices off, it just over complicates things and increases costs. A step backwards GM.... plus it's ugly.

      I almost bought it, but walked away, for 35k, you don't get LED lights and it didn't have 4x4. Too much for what it is.
