    I have the same thoughts, it’s a ebb and flow. True collectors will ride it out. It’s a definite buyers market, May as well take advantage. I don’t collect to get rich.

    • @MattWoodsComics
      @MattWoodsComics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is hard to impossible to before “rich” collect anything. While collectibles can be a great place to park capital, there is a lot of risk. A leaky roof can cause water damage over night, or a fire could wipe out an entire collection in the blink of an eye.

    Now is the prefect time to assess your goals, hobby habits and PC. Trail by Fire always spawns the best results. I’m looking forward to this period over last year’s over saturation in pricing by a mile. Trust your gut. A wise man once said ‘Buy a Comic Book that you love and love what you own”…

    Around 2009 I bought a Silver Age X-Men 14 cgc 6.0 for $150 and I struggled to convince myself to pay that much. I paced around for days wondering if I should even pay that much. That was high! Sold it last year for $1k. I still can't believe how prices have risen.

    • @MattWoodsComics
      @MattWoodsComics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is amazing how the prices have changed for these books. It is fun now that values are so high but I miss being able to buy a Silver Age Key without selling another book in the collection to pick it up. Now I need to move books out of the collection by selling them to get the keys that I’m after.

    Great, baseline economics info vid sir! When the price of necessities goes up, the value of incidentals goes down (and fast!). It is indeed a good time to buy collectables and such during those times, always assuming that one has the "disposable" income to do so. With the state of online selling, this sort of downturn is actually advantageous to the short/mid-term Flipper (no extra cost associated with travel; one can simple mail the stuff nowadays); buy when the prices are cratering from people who are suddenly strapped for money, then hold it till things invariably level off and rise again (though with the rate we are careening off the rails right now as a country leads me to expect a far slower climb back up to previous prosperous levels) and sell on the upswing. At this point, I would compare comics/collectables to Bonds or Mutual Funds; buy them and hold them for future sales. When we get back to where the economy has course-corrected, those same comics/collectable will be more comparable to stocks with the wild upswings in value, and Flippers become more akin to Day Traders. So much value for things such as comics is predicated on the disposable income surplus, which is in sharp decline currently.
    One thing that I do not understand, nor trust, is a comic suddenly gaining immense value due to a movie tie-in. In the immortal words of Admiral Akbar on this phenomenon; It's a Trap!!! I think any value from this will be fleeting, at best. Warren Buffett was once famously asked why he didn't take a bath in the Dot.Com bust. He simply stated that he didn't understand the product and thus didn't invest in such entities. I don't understand hype of a movie effecting the price of a comic with a tie-in to any appreciable effect unless normies out there start clamoring for comics like they were in the early 90's (as investments), which I honestly don't see happening. In the end, when the same amount of people (regular comic collectors) are vying for a book, the book doesn't really have any more "demand" than it did before; it needs more interested parties in order to naturally increase it's price. What happens when the movie fades from current popularity, or, in the case of many releases now, underperforms drastically? In 10 years when most of these comics movies are sitting in (probably digital!) dollar bins, will that huge short-term value boost remain on the comic? Hard to say.
    Maybe NFT's will take over and relegate floppies to the recycle bin of history ;-P

      Economics 101!
      You are so correct about the books that spike in value because of movie news. It doesn’t last and the books come back down to Earth.

    The stock market has been fluctuating MUCH more wildly than the comic market. My stocks for example have been riding WILD waves, meanwhile, comics are tangible. Comics are cool. There is nothing artistic about stocks.

    I don't have any really expensive books,, but do have a lot in the $10-$50 range. I sell to buy what i want and recently I've done some deep discounts. Its not that I'm desperate to be rid panicking or have no faith in the market. Its because I've got my eye on the prize. If the book I want is deeply discounted, well that all works out.

    • @MattWoodsComics
      @MattWoodsComics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have the right attitude. The wave is relative. Like you said, as the books you are selling go down, the books you are buying also go down.

    Hi I’m looking to purchase several 1970-80 comic books. Brand new to collecting comic books, in this current time, is the general market back to prices pre-2020?

    • @MattWoodsComics
      @MattWoodsComics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Comic books are definitely coming down in price. But the values change daily. While it seems that most books are coming down there are still comic books going up in price. It is hard to say that the prices are pre-2020. Some are, some aren’t.
