Conan The Barbarian # 1 Re-Graded by CGC
Hey! This is Aubrey's friend Brenden. I heard you are coming to the show this year and I am really happy to meet you if I see you!!!
Looking forward to seeing the show this year. It sounds like a great cast. Make sure you introduce yourself. It will be a pleasure to meet you, Brenden.
The pulp magazines began running comics as a secondary feature. First among them was "Sally the Sleuth" whose adventures can be summarized as Sally investigates. Sally loses her clothes. Sally is rescued. Other comic figures that appeared in pulps were "Diana Daw" and "Dan Turner: Hollywood Detective" The reaction to and the fan male generated by the comics inspired the pulp publishers to try publishing the comics directly and skipping the more expensive to acquire fiction. The rest is history.
This was helpful to me, as I am adding Isolation to CLZ
Glad to hear able to help!!
THE COMPETITION TO HAVE 300 ISSUES BETWEEN SPAWN & CEREBUS HAS AN INTERESTING DILEMMA.TODD ONLY DREW 15+ ISSUES OF THE SERIES,& HANDED SPAWN OVER TO OTHER WRITERS & ARTISTS. SO TODD SORT OF CHEATED. DAVE SIM WORKED ON EVERY ISSUE OF CEREBUS,BUT DID HIRE BACKGROUND ARTISTS LIKE GERARD,WHILE DAVE JUST DREW THE ARRDVARK. WHAT DO YOU THINK.SHOULD TODD GO BACK TO DRAWING SPAWN?
WHAT ARE THE PRINT RUNS OF SPAWN NOW,FROM #300-#361,DURING THE COVID-PANDEMIC,WITH PAPER SHORTAGES ETC.
Excellent recommendations. Out of these, I've only read Queen of the Black Coast and Red Nails (perhaps my all time favorite of the Conan stories I have read). Thanx for these!
Can I get the dimensions and material u used
My local Walmart doesn't carry them. I have tried to find the three or seven packs online but I don't have the sku's for them. Great video.
The only comics I buy now.
Can’t go wrong with them. Facsimiles are fun books to read and collect.
Would those drawers hold golden age size books or magazine sizes?
I made them to fit up to and including Golden Age comic books. I did not make them large enough for magazine size comics. But it would be easy enough to make the drawers large enough to fit the magazines.
Hello. once I saw one of your videos where you showed your collection of savage sword of Conan. I would like to see it again , but I can not find it. could you help me to do it. could you write the name or the link so I can find it again. thanks
It may be this video. Let me know if this was the correct one. One of my very first videos Conan the Barbarian Comic Book Collection th-cam.com/video/fVmHVmTn8lM/w-d-xo.html
No John Carter Of Mars? The original strange visitor from another planet (Earth) who came to Mars with powers and abilities far beyond those of ordinary Martians?!
John Carter was one that I would have choose, but panel of voters are the people who decided the top ten.
I can’t figure out why he took the Superman comic out of the bag. 😂😂
👊
After 4 years, I'm curious if you've seen any off gassing issues with the wood on your bags.
That was a legitimate question that I had myself. But after four years I’ve not seen any yellowing of the bags and boards that have been stored in the drawers. Even in a long box stored in a dry room you will see some yellowing after a half dozen years or so. The poly bags would be the first place that gasing issues showed up. Since it has only been four years, it might not have been long enough to determine. So far so good. No noticeable gasing issues detected. Honest to goodness great question and one that I have been monitoring closely.
Those drawers are terrific!
They make a giant difference in storing my books. Make it so much easier to access the collection .
Love Tomb Raider! Great art and comics!
A very underrated comic series. Was a fantastic read.
miss you matt. hope things are going well!
Doing well here. Hope all is well with you!!
thank god i have every issue of this series 90% of mine were bought at original cover price yea i am old but love conan
You were able to find them at the right price!!!! I’m a tad bit envious 😂
You could add wood edge banding to hide the plywood edges, it creates a more finished look.
That is a great idea. Truth is that if these were to be anywhere else but the private comic book room I would have made these furniture grade out of hardwood. I kind of like the ‘raw’ look in the comic book room. It reminds me of the goal of me building the drawers. The goal was to build them light and cheap as could be. The drawers and comic books are on my second floor of my house. I didn’t want the weight to be too heavy for the floor joists to hold. A comic book collection can become very heavy.
YOU SIR ARE LEGEND AND LIFESAVER THIS IS WHAT I WAS TRYING TO FIND FOR A WEEK FOR NOW COULD YOU TELL ME THE DIMENSIONS OF WHOLE THING AND EACH BOX PLEASE
Have you seen the prices on those lately? Hope you held onto yours
I’ve been lucky enough to hold on to them. It is a great read.
Rhe punisher is like the modern day Conan
I’ll have to check that title out
Dude, you got a sick collection. 😮
Thank you, appreciate that
Amazing system, do you have a parts list and dimensions for this
Sorry, no parts list, I designed this on the back of a cocktail napkin
The list was going along fine (although a bit out of order; The Spider under Phantom Detective and Black Bat ???) until Number 5. After The Spider, Phantom, and Black Bat I was thinking, "Who's the Top 5.... Tarzan, Shadow, Doc Savage, Conan, perhaps G-8 or even Captain Future." And then there was "Domino Lady".... A Nobody !!! A character that only had 5 very minor stories in a very minor "Spicy/Saucy" magazine in 1936. She influenced NOTHING. Her only claim to "fame" was being in a "Spicy" title and being seductively painted on the covers by Norman Saunders, which make those issues now expensive to purchase. Nothing more.
Those Domino Lady covers though,… are very highly sought after. Truth be told, she isn’t one of my favorite characters. This list was made up by a group and I presented the list. But as with every list there is room to debate. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
Last year I discovered the fun of reading those old pulp magazines. A lot of them are reprinted now. I don't read many American Comics, but I'm a long time collector of European comics and graphic novels. Every Thursday I talk about them on my channel.
Thanks for letting me know about your channel. I just subscribed.
@@MattWoodsComics Thanks.
Very nice set-up Matt. I envy your carpentry skills. I lack the patience and skill to create anything like what you've created.
Thanks for the kind words. The truth is that I would not count my comic book cabinets as finished carpentry. I was trying to make these as light as could be, and as cheap. These cabinets are on my second floor and the weight of comic books can add up. So the material of the cabinets needed to be light but strong enough to hold the weight of the comics themselves. Also cheap. I wanted to build an entire unit, one row of four drawers, out of one 4x8 sheet of plywood and a 4x8 sheet of mdf board. I may have gone with different material if this was on top of a concrete slab where weight was not a worry. Even though I say this isn’t finished carpentry. I still love the rough look and the ease of use for my collection. Thanks again for the kind words.
@@MattWoodsComics Still to me it's a very nice way to store and display your collection.
'ppreciate ya' doin' it, but much of it was out of focus,.....
That was one of my first videos. That LCS is amazing.
Noticed your ring! Glad to see a fellow Freemason collecting comics! Subscribed!
Thanks for the sub!! So many great masons out there. More than most people realize.
I just found this Adventure Pulp/Magazine Sep 1 1929 Vol. 71 #6 GD/VG 3.0 in good condition
So hard to find these old magazines let alone in a good shape. Well done 👊
I have a ton of conan originals I'm trying to get rid of
Hope they find a good home
This is so full of incorrect information. Matt Woods is NOT a reliable source for this material.
😂😂
The Spider DID NOT have any mental powers. Do your research.
😂😂 thanks for watching
I'm sure it was asked in the comments somewhere, and I watched this vid with the sound off, but do you by chance have plans to build this? Or recommended measurements? And if you already answered that in the video, my apologies. It is FANTASTIC!
Sorry, I built these a few years ago and I don’t have the plans anymore. But I do remember drawing it out on the back of a cocktail napkin. 😀 Didn’t make them overly difficult in design.
Those drawers are awesome! I'll try to replicate it for myself! One thing though I would change is the bottom drawers and add some height below them. I don't know, any slight flooding or water situation on the room and the comics can get easily damaged. But that's just me being paranoid. Cheers!
Thanks for the kind words. Glad you like these. Makes collecting so much easier. I weighted the benefit of adding a three inch base to the bottom to whether the top row would be too high to my 5’10 frame. The comics are on my top floor in the house and I don’t have any water pipes up this high in the house. If these were on a lower floor, then without a doubt they would have had a base on the bottom.
We use to colour-in the Savage Swords. Best b&w comics with great linework, probably B.W Smith was best but big John and Ernie Chan was more iconic. Seems a sin defacing them now but we did actually read them as well.
No wrong way to enjoy a comic book. Big John is my favorite Conan artist.
Thank you 👍
👊
This video popped up in my feed. Funny because I’ve been reading a Conan book
You can never go wrong with a Conan book!!!😀
Love this. Do you have the blueprints
Wish I did, I wrote on the plans on the back of a cocktail napkin.
Those views are incredible Matt🎉
Definitely a highlight in my life.
Wow! Wow! Wow!
This really is amazing
Matt that is absolutely amazing. It's better than I thought it would be. He painted this? It's just too beautiful for words.
It blows my mind that this was hand painted. Such detail on this canvas. Such craftsmanship on each brush stroke.
