    What a mystery box they send you…. Your video helped us figure out how the drain parts go together. What is the screw hole on the bottom of the grate used for?? Mine (floral design) doesn’t screw down.

    Hi Sal, thanks for these great videos. I’v pretty much completed a full bathroom renovation, predominantly with your help via TH-cam. I installed this shower drain and now that I have the finished shower, I’ve noticed that when any pressure is applied to the drain grate, that itSqueaks Ever so slightly. The drain itself is cemented down perfectly, but the squeaking Is coming from the screws that keep the drain grate down. It feels like the screws are just not holding strong enough.Any thoughts on that?

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, not sure what it can be, but call your Schluter rep, or their help line, they can probably help.

    • @luiscostabile6036

      the ring that comes with the grate has two larger holes, these two holes should be aligned with the two screws on the grate, reason being, the screws don't touch the ring. Try removing the two screws, does the squeek go away, if so, cut the screws slightly.

  • @riverdog8796
    @riverdog8796 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Those cuts are only 1/4 or 5/16 thick. Would have been better/cleaner to just center drain and have a 3/16 continuous joint around grate with all full tiles..........

    • @CJD44
      @CJD44 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah 6 of one half dozen the other. He would’ve had twice as much cutting to do on the outside perimeter. Drain appearance is important. Usually not so much on a 3 x 3. Still great video.

      @@CJD44 The schluter drain moves 1/2 inch all directions. Outer cuts would not change at all

    • @CJD44
      @CJD44 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@riverdog8796 the Schluter drain only moves a half inch and all directions in the perfect environment. Not all drains line up… could be agains a joist. misfed plumbing, etc. you never know what someone has to go through in their own install if they don’t show you everything from start to finish. And I guarantee you one thing every job you have done hasn’t been perfect.. so why hate on the video. Why even watch it if you’re so good and perfect? How many years do you have over this guy?

    • @CJD44
      @CJD44 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@riverdog8796 i’m just wrapping up a bathroom now that’s completely Kerri in a 1955 home and the Schlueter drain did not give me any room for adjustment at all. Can send photos if you like not every job is perfect. Sometimes you have to go within this environment of standards if you watch the videos on TH-cam, you will see this especially the guy with the red brick house, you’re not gonna move exterior brick walls. And some peoples budget does not allow them to buy 25% or even more tile to make things centered of course all that material factors on the size of the job and how perfect they can afford it. Flawless cost more time which is labor also known as expensive or affordable

    • @sbevic
      @sbevic หลายเดือนก่อน

      Totally agree, I’d rather center the drain rather thank having any small bits, the perimeter will and should still show same measurements once you install the curb/finish pieces.

    What if you use the LFT cement which is polymer modified?

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LFT does not necessarily mean modified, it is more a property of the mortar. Since this video was made there have been advancements in thinset technology and Schluter now make their own thinsets, both modified and unmodified.

    What size of trowel did you use?

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** Trowel size depends not only on the size of the tile, but also the thickness and flatness on the back of the tile. But generally the bigger the tile the bigger the trowel, in this case i think it was a 1/4"x1/4" square notch.

    • @eugenesokol9138
      @eugenesokol9138 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      What size of trowel would you recommend for 2"x2" mosaic with 3/16 thickness?

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Try a v-notch or a small square notch trowel, Like a ditra trowel, if you get good coverage then continue with that, if you find that the coverage is not what it should be, move to a deeper trowel.

    Is there no weep holes in a Keri system?

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Joe B The traditional shower system with a vinyl pan liner is a "water in, water out " type of system, the water that gets into the mud, filters through it down to the pan liner and out the weep holes. The Schluter system is completely different in that the waterproofing is directly under the tile, so the mud always stays dry and all the water goes down the drain.

      Kerdi is WAY more expensive than Red Guard and is waterproof just like red guard. No red guard needed

      Red guard dries and break after a time.

      Using red guard over any Kerdi product voids all waterproof warranties.
