    The day you posted the video of your RASAs getting rained on, my own equipment got rained on! Very luckily got it inside before the rain got bad. Glad you're back, fantastic image as always!

      Oh no, glad to hear your equipment is ok. It’s taken me a bit to get it all up and running again. Thank you, very happy with the end result also 🙂

    good to see you back at it Steven ...

    yours is a suitable setup for discovering something like a dozen new exoplanets per year

    Glad to see you back and in action. And good to see all is recovered after the 'rain' incident. Have you considered the Optec Libra Alt-Az dovetail plates for the outer RASAs to allow for alignment? Although I guess if you can make your own for cheaper then that would be the way to go I guess. Clear skies.

      I had considered something like them, however needing two and no longer being able to spend anything more on the system it would be another expensive purchase to get two of them... life was simpler with one...or two RASA's lol.

    Hi Steve! Great to see you out imaging again! Here between the weather, smoke, and my chip on my RASA is turning into a crack so it is at Celestron now to get a new corrector. In the meantime I am testing a smaller widefield rig which is no match for the RASA but easier on my back. A few notes, first the paint you are using is designed to sprayed on in layers to improve the light absorption and durability. Second in regards to power, most powerboxes can handle upto 13.8 volts and sometimes when the load is high pulling more current the voltage drops. So one way around that is a DC to DC voltage regulator and possibly running the input voltage at 13.8 volts. The QHY cameras also shut down when the voltage gets too low. I've even heard that Skywatcher mounts tend to run better at 13.8v so maybe even just have the extra voltage or the regulator on it. Thanks and Clear Skies mate!

      Hi mate, sorry to hear your RASA is now being looked at, crazy how the corrector is cracking.
      How much easier are small rigs to get up and running!
      I did hear that about the paint, spraying in layers helps so when I build the next dew shield I’ll do that.
      I do already have a regulator on my system and run at 13.8 volts. I’ve even gone as high as 15volts and the system has been fine, the computer likes the extra volts too. I’ve also used large gauge wire to help with any voltage drop. The issue with the cover motors only seems to happen on cold nights, indoors when all setup to trial run the system it works fine. I really just need to work on the sequence in NINA.

    Hi Steven, Good to see you are back online! Had the same issue not with rain but with hidden sprinklers that poored inches of water in my Rasa and mount over night during vacation. Got it working again too, just testing more when the weather permits. I made a dual rig like your previous setup, but I wonder is it not easier to have a dual rig adjustment like jtd to align the scopes? I got one, only thing is it adds weight to my cem70g setup. Cheers

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography
      @StevenMorrisPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      It most certainly is easier to have a jtd or alike to align the scopes. Something like that in Australia I believe is another $500 plus and seeing I have two I need to align it’s another $1000 plus which is something I’d rather not have to worry about when I can align my setup now. I’m glad to hear your system is up and running from the sprinkler system.

    welcome back mate image turned out great to even after all the issues, I'm sure you'll iron out the niggles in the end.

      Thanks mate, the image turned out great with an average of 200 frames per channel. Like anything astro, things take time a patience. I'm sure I will get it all working 100% soon :)

    Wow!😮He's alive! haha!😂Welcome back to the world Steven!😀Believe it not, I was checking out your channel almost exactly 24 hours ago, to see if I missed any video(s) from you. When I saw that I had not, I wondered what was up....and now I know! You've made quite a few improvements to your gear, and I am glad that the upgrades & tweaks are paying dividends.👍IMHO, the Snake Nebula shot looks great, and I am looking forward to seeing your image of the dusty section of the Rho Ophiuci/Antares region ( fWIW, it's my favourite region of the entire sky. Unfortunately it doesn't get very high above the horizon up here in Canada, but I have imaged it with a wide field set-up in Chile, where the region goes nearly overhead...) I hope your house construction is going well. Is it in a dark sky location? 🤔 Cheers!👋

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography
      @StevenMorrisPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha yeah mate I'm alive!
      I hope I can get some imaging done of the Rho Ophiuci region but it's not looking good for this year, the milky way is setting behind the house much earlier in the night.
      House is coming along slowly, I don't think I'll be in it until next year. It's in a much darker sky zone than where I am now, I'm guessing it's around a Bortle 3 but I'll know more when I can take a reading of the sky :)

    Re batteries, if you are putting them in parallel, they should be the same size, make and age. Cigarette lighter plugs are too flimsy, likely to get pulled out and have a poor connection leading to voltage drop. if your motors are having issues, likely cause is too think cables causing too much voltage drop

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography
      @StevenMorrisPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      The batteries aren't the same size in terms of AH but they are the same brand and can be run in parallel with each other I've already checked all that. The cigarette connection is for the mount, the rest of the system is all connected through anderson plugs to make sure the connections are solid. I feel it could be voltage drop in the cold, when I'm running a dummy setup inside the house the system is fine. I've also added larger wires to the system to adjust for voltage drop so we will see how that turns out. It's all part of the fun working on the system :)

    what 3d printer do you have? a dew shield for a RASA 8 is a pretty big print, must take a while...?

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography
      @StevenMorrisPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a flashforge guider 2 which does a great job in printing. It does take about 3 days to print a dew shield with a 0.6mm nozzle and a whole lot of filament. It can get expensive if you keep coming up with design changes.

    How heavy that rig? 250 Lb?
    Tried Helix Nebula with 800 and 2500mm FL. No context. Long focal length shows every nebula filament and intricate structures in the nebula. Short FL show just colorful amorphous planetary nebula.

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography

      The triple setup is approximately 44kgs when I weight it last, it might be around 48kgs now.

    • @anata5127
      @anata5127 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@StevenMorrisPhotography Just? Mount with tripod will be at least 60 Kg . Right? Weight of scopes and other gizmos 50 kg. So, 100-120kg. Right?
      Are you planning to get AM5 and ASAir? They are extremely popular nowadays. My astro club people buying AM5, ASAir and red cat scopes in bunches, like confetti. A person could carry simultaneously, in “one shot”, three such systems (one in left hand, one in right hand, and third by grabbing with teeth).

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography
      @StevenMorrisPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha ha that sounds like a really nice and light setup, unfortunately I can’t spend any more money on new equipment for a lighter setup. I don’t mind the gym session in setting up the triplets, it keeps me fit at least.

      @@StevenMorrisPhotography Yep, I also have heavy rig to dismay of my club buddies 😉. They set up in 5 min, I do in 30 min. What about outcome?!😀
