I really like this interpretation of Dudley being an actually kind of okay bloke who was mostly copying his parents because he didn't know better, but as he grew up and started to talk to normal people he's slowly starting to realize how abusive his parents were, despite how they treated him.
I love this version too! Went back on his word the second he realised he was genuinely hurting Harry. I like to believe dudley always liked Harry and wanted to be able to consider him a brother but his parents made him be cruel.
