  • The Prom is so committed to capturing the spirit and joy of a broadway musical that it's easy to forgive the flimsier elements of its story.

    i think my biggest problem with the movie is that it is too long and the pacing is really horrible. within one hour in the movie, the climax already happened, and there is another hour that is very slow and boring when they could do it in like half an hour, and that would be fun. james corden is so annoying that it makes meryl streep look bad (when she was actually good). i though everything felt very generic, including the songs, that basically sound almost all the same to me. also, the protagonist is kinda bad??? to me she doesn't have any personality and just do things for the sake of the script. i see why people would like this movie, but to me there is much better lgbtq movies out there

    I am beginning to think that Emma (Jo Ellen Pellman) may have been written a bit generic to make her an audience stand-in almost. I do agree that she doesn't really have a character arc but I kind of feel like she didn't need one.
    All and all, I really enjoyed the movie. It's fun and frothy and sometimes that's what you need.

    • @80MWH
      @80MWH 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She reminded me a bit of Jyn Erso in “Rogue One.” She should be the focal point, but she feels like “the thing” that all these more interesting people are orbiting around, and I really wanted this to feel like her story.

    • @victoriakmartin
      @victoriakmartin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that sounds about right - though I think Emma all and all is a lot more consistent in her characterization. But they definitely both are a bit on the passive side when it comes to protagonists.

    I was disappointed we barely saw the teen romance

    • @glenn212now
      @glenn212now 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, but the teens have very little charisma. Any more of them and I would have bailed. The adults just blew them off the screen. You really can't put Meryl Streep belting out songs up against Jo Ellen what's her name with an acoustic guitar.

    Only the first 40 minutes are good, the rest so boring that it made me forget the good things. Unresolved things like Nicole Kidman's character that appears out of nowhere, but since we have the premise of being actors fallen from grace, we know that she is one of them, but they don't explain her origin, they tell you that she is the showgirl and that's it; the thing of Meryl Streep's house and the sacrifice for nothing, just to mention the ex-husband, who given zero development,
    Let's not say that I saw Miranda Priestly's character most of the time, disliked. That movie has no personality and just try to hang on the LGBT movement.

    Of course people will love the film with such a massive presence of the hetties' Favourite Gay Stereotype - the Super-Eunuch.
    The reviewer assumes that most people have empathy for the gay experience? Seriously? He isn't in the market for some prime real estate, is he - maybe a bridge somewhere in the vicinity of Brooklyn?
    If anything we're worse off than ten years ago - public opinion is now in an irreversible decline. Those of us who are married might as well divide assets on our own terms now rather than wait to be divorced by force.

    I agree that Emma's character isn't fully realized in the script. But Meryl Streep is just so much more fun to watch and it didn't bother me at all that she ruled the screen. The actress playing Emma has a sweet voice but very little charisma. Meryl just rocks it. I understand what you guys say about the casting of James Corden, but it didn't bother me.
