Mahler: First Symphony

Gustav Mahler took inspiration from the natural world for many of his symphonies. This inspiration, together with his use of folk melodies and rhythms, led to Mahler being described as a composer who brought the outside world into the concert hall. The third movement of Mahler's First Symphony features the well known round "Frère Jacques". In this video, the story of the sleepy monk is combined with scenes from the natural world.

Mahler is great - try the opening movement of his 2nd symphony for excitement or the adagietto from the fifth (I did a video for that too) for extraordinary beauty
