When Waymo encountered the blocked alley, I presume that it sent out an SOS, and Driver Assist jumped right in and told it to turn around - which it knows how to do.
@@DerekDavis213 um it is the future the technology is just not 100% perfect yet lol. Waymo is literally like the first driverless car and the first that's also already training on the highway. I mean even Tesla isn't perfect yet give the technology time.

19:45 Why can't the doors close themselves lol. All the taxis in Japan open/close the doors themselves, so having to open/close a taxi door is such a culture shock (I have definitely accidentally walked away without closing a taxi door before in korea, poor driver)
so the key to this technology is there is a team of remote operators ready to jump in and provide remote human intervention at a moment's notice I suppose... 🤔

Well, yes, that's what it said on the screen.
The future is already here - it's just not evenly distributed
If the future was *really* here, Waymo taxi would not need remote help from a human navigator at Waymo.

It's funny how people are illustrated at Roombas :)
Curious what happens if you try to control the steering wheel or step on the pedals?
Just a “Please don’t touch driving controls message” at the very least.
Edit: I spoke to Waymo about this, and what I said only applies to the first time you do this. In the future, your ride will immediately end.
@@SylveonTheOctoling Thanks for the info. I was just curious what's stopping some punk passenger from overriding the controls and driving it away.
18:00 maybe the answer to the "why a roundabout with stop signs" question is "because of the crosswalk"?
Why do you need a stop sign for a crosswalk? A yield (to pedestrians) would be fine - it makes no sense to stop when there is nobody there.

Used to with the old minivans, seems like an oversight for sure. Though, nice to be able to force the car to hold still for a bit

Eh, it executed the 3 point turn once given the greenlight.
Tesla can't even reverse so I think you'd have to disengage in that scenario.

I still say none of that matters until the human is no longer liable for the car's actions
Nah I have seen FSD over-yielding plenty of times while driving around SF. It’s not related to whether the architecture is end to end.
There is a brand new FSD 12.3.4 video, more than an hour long, of driving in San Francisco. FSD had MANY problems there.
