    The takeaway had always been a challenge for me, and my tendency was to lift the hands up too early and consequently, chop the ball down , including the driver. After watching the towel drill several times, I discovered what was plain in sight but not obvious to me, and that was that my right elbow was collapsing early n the back swing , and therefore there was no extension past the right knee with my right hand...effectively a wow moment for me, after all these years!! Thank you for such a great video and the interaction between both of you to bring this lesson home to me.

      Thanks for your comment and I'm glad the drill was helpful! Fixing early right elbow collapse can make such a big difference in your swing.

    Wow, that equal and opposite idea/drill seems kind of "left field" and a bit hard to really believe and assimilate. BUT from the few swings I've done on a simulator it's actually fantastic!!! The improvement to my ball striking is shocking! I've seen Pete Cowan discuss this, (who hasn't), but I never really accepted it. Your video lesson here made me give it an honest try and it really uncomplicates the swing...actually the opposite effect of what you would think, and the improvement is amazing. Many, many thanks!

    Brilliant drill and really well explained. ive also found with this that it keeps the triceps pushed in to the rib cage - perhaps cost me 10 yards of distance per iron but the accuracy and ball flight improved massively.

      That's the trade off, but I'd say losing 10 yards is worth it. Thanks for sharing.

    A very simple way to get the hands to work in opposition to each other is to hold the shaft of the club vertical with elbows bent 90° and pointing down, tucked into sides. As the club lowers and the arms are pulled straight the way the Vardon grip locks the hands together causes both forearms to rotate ( ) inward stretching the forearm muscles. Then just keep sight downward pressure with the pad of the trail hand to get any slack out of the lead arm.
    This works because it puts the ulna and radius bones in both forearms in the middle of their range of motion an that in turn causes the non-load bearing hand (trail in backswing / lead in finish) to max out in extension and force the arm to fold elbow down. It will make the folding of the trail arm in the backswing and lead arm in the finish mirror images and keep the club head ‘in the groove’ which is the feel of a perfectly balanced club head path and turning over of the hands.

    Are you maintaining that feel through the whole swing? Through transition and delivery or just for the takeaway up the the top ?

    • @kerrodgraygolf
      @kerrodgraygolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not for the whole swing, just for the initial takeaway.

      I have heard Pete Cowen use the term equal and opposite “all the way through” and in another of your videos “all the time.” It’s wasn’t clear to me that it should be limited to the initial takeaway from parsing the several videos of Pete on YT.

  • @TheStretchBear

    This is a great drill. At around 6:40, you talk about the handle moving forward when the club is pushed away from the body. Would this be a good move from address to create the 'forward press' that so many Pros show in their golf swings.

      @@kerrodgraygolf would be awesome to have a video out there about for which type of golfer an inside club path would work. I think Fitz actually changed from straight back to inside takeaway and is now a long hitter.

    Nice video but I wish you had talked about the release pattern. I would think the ball would go dead left if there was any counterclockwise rotation through impact.

      The clockwise rotation is just for the takeaway.

    my problem with this video is that is contradicts all the other videos about the takeaway where we are supposed to simply turn our body and not manipulate the hands. kerrod gray has made multiple such videos.

  • @danielmarbella1197

    I don’t understand. The drill encourages to maintain arms straight, but this position doesn’t let you go up with the club for a while swing.

    8:13 Good feeling didn't go as planned.

  • @hocheye
    @hocheye ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't get this drill? Most pros manipulate the club at the top of the backswing to square up the club face all the way through impact with full extension coming after ball strike, this gives club lag at impact compressing the ball properly.I only can guess your trying not to manipulate the club from the start of the swing giving more control thus eliminating the manipulation.

    • @kerrodgraygolf
      @kerrodgraygolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      This drill is more about equalizing the hands and correcting an overactive lead hand.
