  • I have searched for a solution to this problem for YEARS! The Weber Q is a far superior quality BBQ to the more expensive stainless steel "marine" grills that have little temperature control and leave you wanting for a better boat grilling experience. The problem has always been figuring out a way to mount the Weber Q to your boat. FINALLY there is a solution! In this video, I show you how to make a simple modification to a Magma extended rail mount to adapt it to your Weber Q making it the perfect solution for your boat. Do NOT buy a boat grill before you watch this video!
    Weber Q1200: amzn.to/3PUjFyb
    Magma Mounts: amzn.to/3QVfrHT (1.25" Rails)
    Other rail sizes:
    1" amzn.to/3AwSfbZ
    1.25" amzn.to/3cnnuhX
    1.5" amzn.to/3wCqYE6
    Hardware you need for this modification:
    1/2" LONG 1/4"x20 BOLT
    1/4" WASHER
    1/4" LOCK NUT
    (4 of EACH)
    Weber Accessories:
    Cover: amzn.to/3PXfORh
    Trays: amzn.to/3e2CylA
    Griddle: amzn.to/3pTpIJ4
    What I've had before and not liked:

    Kuuma Mounts: amzn.to/3AAS6oi
    Magma: amzn.to/3cuSX1B

    I always love when someone is budget minded and/or handyman special alternatives to boating or grilling. I'll bet you saved enough to pay for those delicious looking steaks. Good to know no one is going hungry

    I have scoured the internet looking at boat grills for my 'new-to-me' used pontoon boat but was not happy with the options I found until I ran across your video. This is PERFECT and I already have a weber Q so lots of money saved. Thank you so much for sharing as I never gave a thought to installing my weber on the boat. Cheers

    I am taking my boat from my house on Marco Island to Pompano across Florida and the lake. Actually my first time. Usually I go to the Keys.

      Nice! Safe travels! We’re still in planning for our Florida route but probably around the keys.

      It was! It’s the best grill option for a boat (in my opinion). Great for grilling and okay for baking.

      It’s all negotiable! If it does, I would duplicate this setup at home since it’s so awesome.

    Someone suggested it was not a good idea to mount plastic feet to the rail brackets. Have you had any issues?

      No. Haven’t had any issues.

    I liked your video.... and I thought you had found the perfect solution for Weber Bbq on the boat
    I have the Q1200 Bbq but I am struggling with the Magma mounts.
    My Cutwater's round rail in the cockpit where I need to mount the BBQ is is 2.4" circumference which is 0.732" diameter I believe ) .... The Magma mounts only appear to offer 1" , 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" for the Extended round rail Dual mount .... although it looks like they offer a smaller 7/8" diameter for the round rail Dual mount ( non-extended ) model which I believe may work .... but I want the extended mounts to hang the BBQ out from the boat ...
    Any suggestions ? ... or , am I out of luck ?
    Best regards from the Pacific NW

      Sorry. I haven’t encountered that problem. Maybe see if the 7/8” diameter can be modified to get it out over the rail as you want.

    the part that you drill through with the rubber feet, is that plastic or metal?

    Are you using 1lb propane tanks? How much run time on a full 1lb tank? Thanks!

    • @onFIREfamily
      @onFIREfamily  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. I used 1lb tanks. I think specs are 3hrs per bottle. I’d say I got about a dozen meals per bottle. Just always keep a spare on hand!

    How is it in the wind? I've had Kumma and now Magma, Magma is good in the wind but is very uneven cooking. I would never try a steak on it.

    • @onFIREfamily
      @onFIREfamily  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For our setup we had problems with wind on anchor. When anchoring, the bow points into the wind always. That puts the Weber’s gap at grate level into the wind. That wasn’t good in moderate or heavier wind. Input a piece of aluminum foil there to block the wind and it was fine. Low wind or in a marina and we were fine since that didn’t line up directly with the wind direction.

    Slick! Love the adaptability to table tops. I have the same plan in mind, but have been concerned about the Magma adapters "grip" on the stainless rail. Do you ever get the feeling the grill, grates, dinner and all might flop over backward and disappear in the lake?

    • @onFIREfamily
      @onFIREfamily  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve never been worried about it. I do remove it and stow it when we’re underway so I don’t hit it with rough wakes but I’ve never been worried about it under normal conditions. I’ll even grill while underway on calm days.

    • @onFIREfamily
      @onFIREfamily  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those Magma mounts really grip the rail very well.

    Nice job! Thanks for posting. This is exactly what I’m looking for. Just curious...the Weber Q is approx. 30 pounds. Any trouble with the mount staying in place without slipping?

    • @onFIREfamily
      @onFIREfamily  ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem at all so far. We normally remove it when we’re underway just because it sticks out over the rail and could bump against lock walls or pilings along the way.

    Checking in to see how the bracket is doing after 1 year? Any issues with slippage when the lid is open? I have the same grill and it is quite heavy. I would be devastated if my beloved grill ended up in the drink. Thanks for sharing. Great idea.

    I know this is 8 months old. Have you had any trouble with the "thinning" of the grill foot, ie cracking or weakness from the hole? I have my Magma rails and I'm about to start drilling.

    • @onFIREfamily
      @onFIREfamily  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not at all. It has been solid. I’ve left it on the rail in rough, pounding seas and it hasn’t budged. Best boat grill setup I’ve ever owned. Best of luck with yours!

    Any suggestion for a 22mm (not sure what that is in inches) rail, less than the one inch ninimum available?

    • @onFIREfamily
      @onFIREfamily  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They sell a 22mm (or 7/8inch) version. No problem!
