@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE I’ve had a cub cadet sc 700 e for about 5 years now with one of those Chinese engines and have beat the heck out of it and had no issue with it at all. Change the oil regularly and have found no metal or anything in it. The only thing I don’t like about it is that the carb will leak gas when u tip the mower over. I would definitely like to see a name brand or an American made engine on it though. Last year I got a RZT L cub cadet with a kohler 7000(the one that is made in America) and it has been fantastic. Only issue is it eats solenoid for breakfast😋
Cub cadet is underrated, but that doesn’t mean they are as good as Exmark and scag. I personally think their mowers are actually very good and almost as good and scag toro etc. they also make some of the best walk behind snowblowers out there
MTD makes Cub Cadet and others; if MTD mowers are the same as MTD snow blowers, then it's an "MTD designed engine" made in China. I have an MTD snow blower with the same Chinese engine manufacturer as you highlight here. It's a good engine with no issues since 2016. B&S "makes" engines made in China too for certain applications like my generator... can't avoid the reality of today's corporate economics.
Here’s what people don’t understand about China that is the same as American products. There’s cheap Chinese products and there’s premium products. Same for American made stuff. Problem is we always see more of the cheap stuff here and just assume that all of the China built things are of the lesser quality.
from what i can gather, it looks like it has some parts from a Loncin engine. who ever the hell they are. but they could also be owned by zongshen also.
I do like these engines coming from one 14yo novice mechanic to a 20 year old one they are reliable and I use the same cub cadet mower but with caster wheels in the front for my mowing jobs
My Craftsman M270 self propelled mower has this exact engine on it with one extra feature on it which is electric start that uses the Craftsman V20 battery to operate the electric start portion of it and this is the 3rd or 4th year I've had the mower and so far no engine issues as of yet. And I believe the brand name of this engine is Powermore
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE yeah I agree with you on that one the only issue I can say that I have with it and it's just something I may have to get used to is sometimes the engine will smoke blue smoke for a few seconds on startup but that might be because of the way we have to tilt the mower to get it out of our shed each time plus it could be from tilting it to clean under the mower but we always tilt it straight back with the handle on the ground so the spark plug is straight up in the air so that it's not tilting towards the valve cover because another small engine channel I watch said to not tilt the mower so the valve cover is towards the ground and I took their advice on that

We bought a Cub Cadet Push Trimmer and it worked for one season, when the next season came around it wouldn’t start even though we left the tank empty and only use pure gas with stabilizers. The local tractor supply replaced the carb under warranty and it worked for one cut and then just quit. Would not recommend their products.
I've had the pleasure of using and owning MTD/PowerMore/Cub Cadet engines, they're not bad as you think. Besides, Toro only has house brand engines. They are basically modelled off of the Honda GXV120/140/160 engine. @Donyboy73 says he's had more problems with Briggs than PowerMore.
I like this engine too but for the price you pay for what's perceived to be a "better brand" I would hope for a better engine. As for engines preference I can only vouch for Honda stuff since it's my personal mower and I don't use the other stuff...I only fix it.
I picked up a Mountfield a few weeks ago that wasn’t starting and they’ve switched from Briggs to some unbranded engine in recent years. I was actually quite impressed with its performance and design.

Zongshen is one of the better Chinese manufacturers. It's not a Honda GX nowhere close but it's a cut above other Honda clones, even Toro and the "known" brands are using. Also Briggs has been making motors in china for a long time now, check the stampings on any post 2000 Briggs, you'll find a couple made over seas. If you want quality every time and have the money to pay for it. Honda all day everyday. You can google the stress tests people do guys have revved 4k revving engines to 10k and they don't explode for a while. Project farm recently tested some engines and ofc Honda came out on top.
I'd be more worried about that front wheel drive. Front wheel drive sucks on self propels. Get rear wheel drive . Or the new 4 wheel drive that came out few years back.
Why is everybody so shocked to find a Chinese engine on their lawnmowers, the CEO's for the US manuf's decided we can't build anything cheap enough in the US, so they outsource everything. (door plug for Boeing comes from Malaysia) Its a Honda clone, there are several versions. I see a lot of folks on here longing for the good ol' American brands (B and S for example), if you've owned one of these lately they aren't that good anymore, and I suspect they are also built somewhere other than the US.
the only deference is that you know what the predator engine is, but those buying a fairly expensive Cub, might know, and to be honest, I don't think those that buy them, seem to care. So I guess everyone wins. thank you Guying playing with tools

This is why Honda makes the best gas push mowers but, they are being discontinued due to CARB lawsuits. Nowadays it’s just better to get a cordless electric mower if you are on the market for a new push mower. Those Honda mowers costs just as much as a high quality equivalent cordless electric mower with battery and charger included if not more.
LCT Chinese engine. (Liquid combustion engine) not a terrible engine defenitley improving over the years. The old cub cadet garden tractors are excellent. Cub was bought by mtd in 1981. The quality has gone down very much over the years. Cub is not a real brand it’s simply an mtd product with the name and color scheme attached.
I’ve the same mower starts runs good than I shut it off and start again it won’t go to full throttle? If it cools it’s ok again. Only two years old. My last mower a Craftsman with a tecumsi engine ran great for 17 years till deck rotted out. Think I’ll go electric

They’re the same as the Powermore engines and, while they’re not as good as the Loncin engines used by Toro and others, they really aren’t that bad IMO. I’ve got two Cub Cadet mowers here waiting to be restored with this same engine on both of them, at least they’re easy to work on. Finding the right parts can be a challenge tho.

the Robin is a knock off of a Honda , The HF predator is not that bad of a engine I have used a few on log splitters . big down fall is parts hard to get Pull start recoil and dogs . im sure the zongshen be just fine .
Yep, typical MTD. I have a Chinese engine on my snow blower and am not impressed. If you are going to pay top dollar, it should have a made in USA engine. Especially in these times where we are close to war with them.

looks in good shape from my view and maybe a valve adjustment might be ideal as there,s a bit of oil under the head or the gasket etc.
it had an intermittent stoping issues, that was related to the carb, but it still ran quite nicely

cub cadet Is a very expensive brand and to see an engine of this caliber on there is less than inspiring.

I have a Predator on my go cart. It's not much more than a Chinese Honda and it's been great. That said, the Quantum is the best.
