It's not their job to make every character likable. It's their job to make the world believable. Putting the n word in their game is something most developers wouldn't even touch. I always wondered why in Wolfenstein 2 you pregnant girlfriend in the game is going out on high-risk missions. Couldn't she just sit out the missions on the ground while carrying a child in her? There are no nazis. A "Nazi" is a slang term for members of the NSDAP in WWII era Germany. That party no longer exists. Use your big boy words next time. But there ARE communists.

One thing is clear from what the survivors of both invasions tell: The red terror was no different than the nazi terror. If a game portrays communists as "good", that's as absurd as portraying nazis as "good". And remember, in Germany, the latter can get you a PRISON SENTENCE. As hard as it tried to make the case that you are fighting the bad guys, after finishing the game, I couldn't help but think that while these evil supernazis created a functioning, self-sustaining Moon-base and had access to technology we can't even dream about by 1960, our civilization is buckling under the pressure of trying to breed the third world to truly unsustainable levels while having to listen to how there's too much of us every-single-day, not to mention the bloated, overfed parasite class sucking the life out of us. I might deserve to get punched in the face for saying this, but I'd pick the Wolfenstein bad guys over the real world bad guys every single time. @@carpet163 character developement. Helps introducing the character of Rip Blazkowicz through the thoughts and memories of his traumatized son, which fits in the storytelling. It's needed for you to understand why BJ's own father would sell him to the Nazis, and also why BJ felt like going back to his old house. A typical frustrated, failed and abusive father of the 20s, I actually thought his character was quite believable, that's what made the scenes with him so dreary and angering for me.
I personally loved the mission dialogue. Despite all the attempts to make it seem black and white if you’re stealthy you actually get to sympathize with some of the men you kill. Sure you get the Nazi standard bearers but some of the German soldiers are just regular guys who are confused of why they’re there and are terrified that a seemingly immortal, dual wielding badass is coming to tomahawk their faces. I totally agree with Grace being totally unlikable. We lost the tough but relatable Caroline and got a bitch who felt the need to make every conversation a pissing contest.
Personally love Grace as a character, she is mad a lot, and whatever she said "white america dont give a shit", "Sigrun is a nazi", "All of kreisau circle members are idiots", "Men are too dumb and women are just as capable" is contradicted in the same game (whether it was by design or not) and you get to prove her wrong. Bj (although a polish jew) is a part of white America, doing much more than Grace could, while still being more caring for your allies. Set, BJ, Caroline, Fergus/Wyatt and Anya are all smart individuals. And the sigrun finally standing up for herself, beating some sense into her and showing her she aint such a strong woman she thought she was. Just goes to show how she, as a victim, is still the bully, trying to disregard people immediately, and she later learns thats not the way to go. I dont know if this is by design, but if it is, they surely nailed it.
This why I love the Metro series. Arytom as a young man notes that he has been told that communism is meant to be a fair and equal ideology, however after travelling through both the red line and Nazi stations he realises they are not all that different.

Have friends from East Germany who've talked about how their parents didn't mind it too much due to the securities it brought in for example job guarantees. It doesn't. The main character actually gets into a debate with the communist character, and wins. But yeah the rest of the game is so unsubtle and disjointed about what it's trying to do. I don't think I'd even care if it wasn't so blatant and forced.

While would agree, i should note that in a situation like this it would make sense that the rebellions are made up of fringe groups like this. Rebellions are often romanticized to having a collected group of people of a similar ideology and goal, when in reality most major rebellions are a collective of different groups who agree on a common enemy and can/maybe compromise. That is, at least, the most successful rebellions that happen. Many times the rebellions fall into inner conflict and can't really unite enough to be anything more than a major nusience on the ruling government. Now as for why theres so many communists, thats actually more or less would be accurate since communism saw success from the Russian revolution and its numbers grew. Fascism is a answer to its ideals of internationalism and nonracial bias(Which often always happened anyway with communist countries) by promoting a ethnostate with usually a strong military focus. Since the Nazi control the world, communists would likely be a counter culture to them. Why not democracy? Well, in these cases, unfortunately, democracy is like being a centralist, and moderates are usually always the first casualty in the battle of extremes. Not to say thats good mind you, just what happens.

Okay, let me put my own word in: 1) The characters' viewpoints do not always reflect the writers' viewpoints. The developers are not trying to praise or encourage the spread of communism. These are just characters with differing opinions, personalities, and perspectives. If they all thought the same way, they would become repetitive and interchangeable. 2) Grace isn't really meant to be seen as a charismatic leader. They make it clear throughout the game that she's nowhere near as beloved or accepted as Caroline, and she gets called out on her behavior before the end. 3) Communists, blacks, Jews, homosexuals, the mentally handicapped, and the like were all enemies of the Nazis. Of course they would be in a game about killing Nazis. If you're going to take on an evil regime that's taken over the planet, you're going to need all the help you can get from all the other enemies that regime has, even if you don't agree with the rules and laws the other guys have. You can worry about that shit _after_ you've done something about the elephant in the room. This game is supposed to be about seeing a wide variety of characters of differing races, creeds, and political/religious affiliations all come together to battle a common enemy. You know, like what happened in World War II? 4) As for the White Christian people like Rip Blazkowicz siding with the Nazis, there were a lot of pro-Nazi groups with the same mentality as him in the United States before the Americans entered the war. So when the Nazis took over the country, guess who gets put in charge? The pro-Nazi groups. They won. Everyone else lost. Everyone that didn't submit to or fit the Nazis' standards either went into hiding or was killed/imprisoned. That's how this stuff works. 5) By complaining about how political something is, you only show how political _you_ are. Just shut up and play the game. Whether that game is any good or not is a different matter entirely, so don't use your hate-boner for certain political parties as an excuse to bash the game.
It seems like you're saying because his criticism is political in nature then he is not allowed to criticize the game. It's obvious he is criticizing the story here and none of the other important parts of the game (Visuals, Mechanics, Level Design, Gunplay, etc.)
That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying that he's focusing too much on the political aspects of The New Colossus. This is a video game, not a campaign rally. If you want to talk smack about the story, that's fine. But don't use that as an excuse to project your own political viewpoints into this game ("Communism is bad, m'kay?"), nor should you make the assumption that the characters only exist to demonstrate whatever the writers practice or preach. This isn't SJW or pro-communist propaganda. Wolfenstein is and always has been about fighting Nazis. If you don't like the fact that Nazis are portrayed as the bad guys, you shouldn't be playing a Wolfenstein game in the first place.

I got this game for Christmas (because I liked the New Order and mentioned I'd probably like the sequel to someone), and I really couldn't be bothered to get past like the third level. It just has too many cutscenes for a game that's trying to say Nazis, racism, and fascism are bad (which are all pretty simple concepts) At first I dismissed the critisicms about the game being too preachy in tone because it's technically set in a time period where racism, Nazis, and such was prevalent. But the way they convey these concepts are way too on the nose and not subtle at all. The lady with the Afro would usually be a character I would like, but the way they wrote her just made me roll my eyes in every scene she was in. Then on top of that while playing it I had this feeling, this inkling, that Bombate would end up screwing the fat German chick. I didn't think it would happen though, because I thought they wouldn't put in the stereotypical "Black guy gets stuck with the fat white chick" thing. And I thought that if they did that, then this game could go fuck itself. And then I watched this video, and found out that it actually happens. Fuck whoever wrote this game's cutscenes/story.
Reading Bambate+Sigrun in the sub as something malicious and not a goofy joke? It's funny. I'd expect to see a scene like that in a movie or TV series.
One certainly cannot argue that between New Order, and New Colossus; New Order had the superior antagonists, and a much tighter, better told story. General Engel worked beautifully as a psychotic second tier antagonist the player had to worry about, but as a main antagonist, she does not hold a candle to General strasse. Deahtshead was a cold and calculating genius, who considered the very concept of morality, to be an antiquated relic. Frau Engel was just a psychotic nut job, who also happened to be a Nazi. Also, i've seen others point this out, but it bears repeating, BJ has always been a half Polish Jew; New Colossus simply showed us, that his Jewish ancestry came from his mother. Also, if you track down the various readable items around the farmhouse district, some of the letters paint a pretty clear picture, that Rip had already burned his reputation to ashes, by being an asshole and a general fuckup; his own best friend told him that he was done, and to never try to contact him again.
2:17: I mean, the writers could've just made a scene where the dad leaves the house after merking the dog, beats the beejezus out of the girl, and burns her house with a cross in the background, but I guess it wasn't subtle enough for them...
The only part of the flashbacks I liked were when it's revealed you have jewish ancestry cause it makes Frau Engel's line "I can spot an impure instantly" all the more ironic, and the one where William and his father go down to the basement... cause it's the only nuance we get with that character besides "He's a racist"

BJ openly shares his disdain for communism. Having played this game I never felt it was promoting communism at any time. BJ Blazkowicz is the definition of a hardcore, gun toting, freedom loving American. He's a stereotypical American badass. The only possible way you could have interpreted this game as pro-communism is if you never played it, or if you are an alt-right snowflake. The main criticism I had for this game was the lack of effort put into gameplay. I thought the story was fantastic in some ways and terrible in other ways. But rather than criticize the actual problems with the game. The alt-rightards want to cry about everything being communist or SJW.

Totally agree with this. The game lends itself to a lot of leftist commentary in the context of both Wolfenstein’s universe and our own. BJ doesn’t really fight for anything except for the resistance of Nazi’s. His ideology and beliefs are kind of remote and he doesn’t really fight for any specific goal other than a world free of Nazi’s. Which I’m sure pretty much any political ideology would be better than that.
Uhmm I interpreted it kind of differently. Both of those characters (the black resistance woman and the communist preacher) are horrible people... they're not really romanticised. You have no choice, you can only team up with them, but the message here for me is 'only together we can defeat the enemy'. We have white straight Christian male BJ, black crazy SJW warrior named whatever, and a white communist preacher. To me it didn't feel as SJW as people say it was...I don't know maybe a little. But families like BJ's existed, there were plenty families like that back then. I for one enjoyed the way they portrayed BJ's past.

Look at it from the Wolvenstein Nazi point of view. They won the war, stopped the violence. They are the side that was "right". The reason you hear the Nazi's say the things that make the most sense (like the anti-violence stuff) is because they have created and now want to maintain the status quo. Now I live in Europe and my grandparents have told me a lot about the war and what it did to people. It did not turn everyone into Nazi-sympathisers, but being occupied sure as hell did not turn everyone into resistance fighters! So when the fighting stopped and the resistance began in the Wolvenstein Universe, the indoctrination and general public's willingness to end the fighting made even the "good ol' US of A" docile. Now pa Blazkowicz is an interesting figure because he has been written exactly like an (over the top) fascism inclined racist 30's Southerner. It is no wonder that he fell right in line with the Nazi's because the same things happened in Europe. There were a lot of political movements (even before the war) that sympathised with the Nazi regime and then, after the country got conquered, got high ranking jobs in the police, industry, political structures etc. etc. Then the Christian thing, it was a thing that was (and to some extent still is) used by racists and bigots to justify their believes. Is it wrong? Heck yeah it is wrong! Is this something that the game preaches as being one and the same as today? No! Remember this game is set in a screwed up version of the 60's, everything that happens here is happening in THAT context. Then the protagonist characters. What group will fight the hardest in the most difficult circumstances? Terrorists. How do you get Terrorists? Strict doctrines that advocate violence and a large group of people that get oppressed. What creates these doctrines? Oversimplification of complex issues that only take into account one point of view. So, the "Black Panthers" are saying "white america" because that population is their antagonist in this doctrine, as it was in real life. The communists spout the communist manifesto because well... They are communists. Both the black population as well as the communists were quite obviously oppressed due to the Nazi ideology being anti-communist and obviously racist. All sides in this game are over the top, especially the resistance. Why not the Jewish population then? Well apart from being mostly wiped out or in camps, they were not as populous. In the 40's the Jewish population was around 3% of the total population in the USA while the Black population was around 10%. From a game dev point of view however, they already did a (semi) Jewish based resistance in the first game. Next, the communists being portrayed as better than the Nazi's. They are not portrayed as better, they are (as you mentioned, BJ's reluctance) being portrayed as a necessary evil to help the fight against the Nazi's. Just as they were viewed during the Second World War IRL. Was Churchill happy with Stalin? No, and neither was FDR or De Gaulle. But they needed them to defeat the Nazi's. It's not romanticising, it's showing the way that the game wants you to see them: As freedom fighters against a regime. If any of these people acutally get in power they will fuck things up big time, that is clear from the get-go, but you need them in a place that has no other options. Lastly, does this make a difference? No. The writing is still bad and the parody is so on the nose that you can easily mistake it for romanticising as you did. The gameplay is still great, but is more of the same from the original and the levels are plain worse than the original. I don't think this game is communist propaganda because looking at it historically the Soviets were part of the allied powers in world war 2 and in the Wolfenstein universe the Nazis won the war so it wouldn't be unnatural for the Soviets to team up with America to overthrow the Nazi government. And I thought that debate scene was genius because having 2 people debate their political views while begrudgingly teaming up to take down a larger evil is genius and as for the father of the main character I think he is there to have you sympathize with him and what he went through as a kid. It's a shame this game had to be released in our current political climate because if it was released at a different time it may have been appreciated for what it was and got the praise it deserved. But this is just my opinion if you think this game sucks that your opinion and you have a right to it.

The most chilling scene for me was the city where you walk around carrying the nuke, where everyone actually seems happy, right before they say something extremely concerning. I never got the impression the game was trying to make a political statement, except for maybe "the Nazis were bad". As hard as it tried to make the case that you are fighting the bad guys, after finishing the game, I couldn't help but think that while these evil supernazis created a functioning, self-sustaining Moon-base and had access to technology we can't even dream about by 1960, our civilization is buckling under the pressure of trying to breed the third world to truly unsustainable levels while having to listen to how there's too much of us every-single-day, not to mention the bloated, overfed parasite class sucking the life out of us.
I might deserve to get punched in the face for saying this, but I'd pick the Wolfenstein bad guys over the real world bad guys every single time. I just can't imagine the "nazis" fecking us over harder than we already are. At least we'd have a Moon-base.

It's needed for you to understand why BJ's own father would sell him to the Nazis, and also why BJ felt like going back to his old house. A typical frustrated, failed and abusive father of the 20s, I actually thought his character was quite believable, that's what made the scenes with him so dreary and angering for me.
I personally loved the mission dialogue. Despite all the attempts to make it seem black and white if you’re stealthy you actually get to sympathize with some of the men you kill. Sure you get the Nazi standard bearers but some of the German soldiers are just regular guys who are confused of why they’re there and are terrified that a seemingly immortal, dual wielding badass is coming to tomahawk their faces. I totally agree with Grace being totally unlikable. We lost the tough but relatable Caroline and got a bitch who felt the need to make every conversation a pissing contest.

Personally love Grace as a character, she is mad a lot, and whatever she said "white america dont give a shit", "Sigrun is a nazi", "All of kreisau circle members are idiots", "Men are too dumb and women are just as capable" is contradicted in the same game (whether it was by design or not) and you get to prove her wrong. Bj (although a polish jew) is a part of white America, doing much more than Grace could, while still being more caring for your allies. Set, BJ, Caroline, Fergus/Wyatt and Anya are all smart individuals. And the sigrun finally standing up for herself, beating some sense into her and showing her she aint such a strong woman she thought she was. Just goes to show how she, as a victim, is still the bully, trying to disregard people immediately, and she later learns thats not the way to go. I dont know if this is by design, but if it is, they surely nailed it.
This why I love the Metro series. Arytom as a young man notes that he has been told that communism is meant to be a fair and equal ideology, however after travelling through both the red line and Nazi stations he realises they are not all that different.

Have friends from East Germany who've talked about how their parents didn't mind it too much due to the securities it brought in for example job guarantees. It doesn't. The main character actually gets into a debate with the communist character, and wins. But yeah the rest of the game is so unsubtle and disjointed about what it's trying to do. I don't think I'd even care if it wasn't so blatant and forced.

While would agree, i should note that in a situation like this it would make sense that the rebellions are made up of fringe groups like this.
Rebellions are often romanticized to having a collected group of people of a similar ideology and goal, when in reality most major rebellions are a collective of different groups who agree on a common enemy and can/maybe compromise. That is, at least, the most successful rebellions that happen.
Many times the rebellions fall into inner conflict and can't really unite enough to be anything more than a major nusience on the ruling government.
Now as for why theres so many communists, thats actually more or less would be accurate since communism saw success from the Russian revolution and its numbers grew. Fascism is a answer to its ideals of internationalism and nonracial bias(Which often always happened anyway with communist countries) by promoting a ethnostate with usually a strong military focus. Since the Nazi control the world, communists would likely be a counter culture to them. Why not democracy? Well, in these cases, unfortunately, democracy is like being a centralist, and moderates are usually always the first casualty in the battle of extremes.

Okay, let me put my own word in:
1) The characters' viewpoints do not always reflect the writers' viewpoints. The developers are not trying to praise or encourage the spread of communism. These are just characters with differing opinions, personalities, and perspectives. If they all thought the same way, they would become repetitive and interchangeable.
2) Grace isn't really meant to be seen as a charismatic leader. They make it clear throughout the game that she's nowhere near as beloved or accepted as Caroline, and she gets called out on her behavior before the end.
3) Communists, blacks, Jews, homosexuals, the mentally handicapped, and the like were all enemies of the Nazis. Of course they would be in a game about killing Nazis. If you're going to take on an evil regime that's taken over the planet, you're going to need all the help you can get from all the other enemies that regime has, even if you don't agree with the rules and laws the other guys have. You can worry about that shit _after_ you've done something about the elephant in the room. This game is supposed to be about seeing a wide variety of characters of differing races, creeds, and political/religious affiliations all come together to battle a common enemy. You know, like what happened in World War II?
4) As for the White Christian people like Rip Blazkowicz siding with the Nazis, there were a lot of pro-Nazi groups with the same mentality as him in the United States before the Americans entered the war. So when the Nazis took over the country, guess who gets put in charge? The pro-Nazi groups. They won. Everyone else lost. Everyone that didn't submit to or fit the Nazis' standards either went into hiding or was killed/imprisoned. That's how this stuff works.
5) By complaining about how political something is, you only show how political _you_ are. Just shut up and play the game. Whether that game is any good or not is a different matter entirely, so don't use your hate-boner for certain political parties as an excuse to bash the game.
It seems like you're saying because his criticism is political in nature then he is not allowed to criticize the game. It's obvious he is criticizing the story here and none of the other important parts of the game (Visuals, Mechanics, Level Design, Gunplay, etc.)
That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying that he's focusing too much on the political aspects of The New Colossus. This is a video game, not a campaign rally. If you want to talk smack about the story, that's fine. But don't use that as an excuse to project your own political viewpoints into this game ("Communism is bad, m'kay?"), nor should you make the assumption that the characters only exist to demonstrate whatever the writers practice or preach. This isn't SJW or pro-communist propaganda. Wolfenstein is and always has been about fighting Nazis. If you don't like the fact that Nazis are portrayed as the bad guys, you shouldn't be playing a Wolfenstein game in the first place.

And that's a good argument, except for a couple of things:
1: If this video was supposed to be about the gameplay in general and not just the political aspects, it would've been called something like "Stop Turning Video Games Into Movies". But nope, "Stop Romanticizing Communism" was exactly what he went for. So I have to assume the politics are the primary topic of this video while the rest was just an afterthought by comparison.
2: If free speech protects someone's right to make a video where he/she rambles on about politics in video games, it also protects my right to call them out on their rambling and point out where they're wrong.

I got this game for Christmas (because I liked the New Order and mentioned I'd probably like the sequel to someone), and I really couldn't be bothered to get past like the third level. It just has too many cutscenes for a game that's trying to say Nazis, racism, and fascism are bad (which are all pretty simple concepts)
At first I dismissed the critisicms about the game being too preachy in tone because it's technically set in a time period where racism, Nazis, and such was prevalent. But the way they convey these concepts are way too on the nose and not subtle at all. The lady with the Afro would usually be a character I would like, but the way they wrote her just made me roll my eyes in every scene she was in.
Then on top of that while playing it I had this feeling, this inkling, that Bombate would end up screwing the fat German chick. I didn't think it would happen though, because I thought they wouldn't put in the stereotypical "Black guy gets stuck with the fat white chick" thing. And I thought that if they did that, then this game could go fuck itself. And then I watched this video, and found out that it actually happens. Fuck whoever wrote this game's cutscenes/story.
Reading Bambate+Sigrun in the sub as something malicious and not a goofy joke? It's funny. I'd expect to see a scene like that in a movie or TV series.
One certainly cannot argue that between New Order, and New Colossus; New Order had the superior antagonists, and a much tighter, better told story. General Engel worked beautifully as a psychotic second tier antagonist the player had to worry about, but as a main antagonist, she does not hold a candle to General strasse.
Deahtshead was a cold and calculating genius, who considered the very concept of morality, to be an antiquated relic. Frau Engel was just a psychotic nut job, who also happened to be a Nazi.
Also, i've seen others point this out, but it bears repeating, BJ has always been a half Polish Jew; New Colossus simply showed us, that his Jewish ancestry came from his mother.
Also, if you track down the various readable items around the farmhouse district, some of the letters paint a pretty clear picture, that Rip had already burned his reputation to ashes, by being an asshole and a general fuckup; his own best friend told him that he was done, and to never try to contact him again.

Having played this game I never felt it was promoting communism at any time. BJ Blazkowicz is the definition of a hardcore, gun toting, freedom loving American. He's a stereotypical American badass.
The only possible way you could have interpreted this game as pro-communism is if you never played it, or if you are an alt-right snowflake.
The main criticism I had for this game was the lack of effort put into gameplay. I thought the story was fantastic in some ways and terrible in other ways.

Totally agree with this. The game lends itself to a lot of leftist commentary in the context of both Wolfenstein’s universe and our own. BJ doesn’t really fight for anything except for the resistance of Nazi’s. His ideology and beliefs are kind of remote and he doesn’t really fight for any specific goal other than a world free of Nazi’s. Which I’m sure pretty much any political ideology would be better than that.
Uhmm I interpreted it kind of differently. Both of those characters (the black resistance woman and the communist preacher) are horrible people... they're not really romanticised. You have no choice, you can only team up with them, but the message here for me is 'only together we can defeat the enemy'. We have white straight Christian male BJ, black crazy SJW warrior named whatever, and a white communist preacher. To me it didn't feel as SJW as people say it was...I don't know maybe a little. But families like BJ's existed, there were plenty families like that back then. I for one enjoyed the way they portrayed BJ's past.

Now please hear me out before commenting, the only reason I am posting this is to (hopefully) put a fireblanket on the flamewar.
Personally I think that this video only adds to the divide you yourself lament, anyway...
The whole game is a parody! It's over the top, nonsensical and a shock-fest.
What they did was take the two things that 50's & 60's America feared most, Communism and Black Panthers, and made them the terrorist cells to the Nazi's.
Look at it from the Wolvenstein Nazi point of view. They won the war, stopped the violence. They are the side that was "right".
The reason you hear the Nazi's say the things that make the most sense (like the anti-violence stuff) is because they have created and now want to maintain the status quo.
Now I live in Europe and my grandparents have told me a lot about the war and what it did to people.
It did not turn everyone into Nazi-sympathisers, but being occupied sure as hell did not turn everyone into resistance fighters!
So when the fighting stopped and the resistance began in the Wolvenstein Universe, the indoctrination and general public's willingness to end the fighting made even the "good ol' US of A" docile.
Now pa Blazkowicz is an interesting figure because he has been written exactly like an (over the top) fascism inclined racist 30's Southerner. It is no wonder that he fell right in line with the Nazi's because the same things happened in Europe. There were a lot of political movements (even before the war) that sympathised with the Nazi regime and then, after the country got conquered, got high ranking jobs in the police, industry, political structures etc. etc.
Then the Christian thing, it was a thing that was (and to some extent still is) used by racists and bigots to justify their believes. Is it wrong? Heck yeah it is wrong! Is this something that the game preaches as being one and the same as today? No! Remember this game is set in a screwed up version of the 60's, everything that happens here is happening in THAT context.
Then the protagonist characters. What group will fight the hardest in the most difficult circumstances? Terrorists. How do you get Terrorists? Strict doctrines that advocate violence and a large group of people that get oppressed. What creates these doctrines? Oversimplification of complex issues that only take into account one point of view.
So, the "Black Panthers" are saying "white america" because that population is their antagonist in this doctrine, as it was in real life. The communists spout the communist manifesto because well... They are communists. Both the black population as well as the communists were quite obviously oppressed due to the Nazi ideology being anti-communist and obviously racist. All sides in this game are over the top, especially the resistance.
Why not the Jewish population then? Well apart from being mostly wiped out or in camps, they were not as populous. In the 40's the Jewish population was around 3% of the total population in the USA while the Black population was around 10%.
From a game dev point of view however, they already did a (semi) Jewish based resistance in the first game.
Next, the communists being portrayed as better than the Nazi's. They are not portrayed as better, they are (as you mentioned, BJ's reluctance) being portrayed as a necessary evil to help the fight against the Nazi's. Just as they were viewed during the Second World War IRL. Was Churchill happy with Stalin? No, and neither was FDR or De Gaulle. But they needed them to defeat the Nazi's. It's not romanticising, it's showing the way that the game wants you to see them: As freedom fighters against a regime. If any of these people acutally get in power they will fuck things up big time, that is clear from the get-go, but you need them in a place that has no other options.
Lastly, does this make a difference? No. The writing is still bad and the parody is so on the nose that you can easily mistake it for romanticising as you did. The gameplay is still great, but is more of the same from the original and the levels are plain worse than the original.

I don't think this game is communist propaganda because looking at it historically the Soviets were part of the allied powers in world war 2 and in the Wolfenstein universe the Nazis won the war so it wouldn't be unnatural for the Soviets to team up with America to overthrow the Nazi government. And I thought that debate scene was genius because having 2 people debate their political views while begrudgingly teaming up to take down a larger evil is genius and as for the father of the main character I think he is there to have you sympathize with him and what he went through as a kid. It's a shame this game had to be released in our current political climate because if it was released at a different time it may have been appreciated for what it was and got the praise it deserved. Did we play the same game or are you just making stuff up? I got the message that, while they did bad things, the Nazis were still people, and not everything they did was bad. The most chilling scene for me was the city where you walk around carrying the nuke, where everyone actually seems happy, right before they say something extremely concerning. Even for white people, the Nazis still sucked. I don't think the game has any bearing on current days..? I never got the impression the game was trying to make a political statement, except for maybe "the Nazis were bad". The only reason the freedom fighters team up with the communists I assumed is because the soviets fought the Nazis during WW2. I don't think the black girl (can't remember her name) was supposed to be likeable. She's there to be a foil to the rest of the cast. You're not supposed to like her. The quote "make America nazi-free again" was definitely seen as more of a political statement than I think it was intended to be. It seems to me more like it means "make America great again by getting rid of the Nazis in the video game" more than "get rid of the """"Nazis"""" irl".
I don't care what the game promotes, because in the end, it is all fiction. I separated the crazy storyline and bullcrap it presents from the real world, and enjoyed the game.
