This is one of my favorites. I have this cd and you'd think there was nothing but this on it 'cause I listen to it over and over. I love to listen to it while driving. It's fun to swing dance to it also. Today's music doesn't even compare, not by a long shot!!!! This 63 year old grandma still likes her rock and roll. I'm stuck in an old body, but my soul is young....who's that old lady looking back at me in the mirror??
Umm, Junior is great and one of the funniest guys I ever met, but the West Coast and the East Coast have different sounds. Here, we have Rusty Bogart, Danny Gatton and Bobby Radcliff. Lucky us! th-cam.com/video/QX3SB7_cjBU/w-d-xo.html
Absolutely spectacular. Fireworks. Incredible ideas, impeccable timing. Watson is a true blues guitar master. And the Heat were never better than during that period.
I met Junior in the 80s when he was playing with a buddy of mine. He was huffing these big old stogies, so I told him I had a friend with a tobacco store and would send him some rarities. He gave me his card (which I still have) so I sent him so many cigars, he smoked them all and then quit smoking shortly afterwards. He also told me the funniest Musselwhite story ever.
Once when he was playing at the Slippery Noodle in Indy I asked him if he got to play any of his jump stuff when he was in Canned Heat, he told me it was only the Canned Heat repertoire. He lied to me! Haha! He's truly one of the best in this genre, I steal every lick I can from him.
I first heard Mike perform at Michelangelo's in Long Beach, the summer of1982. I quit my job the next day. Then went directly to the nearest thrift store for a new suit, and then to the Bellflower Pawnshop for a guitar. Thanks Hune !
"The Mole" is not only alive and one of today's top blues bass players, he's also the one playing the bass in this video. FWIW, I have seen them play in this lineup and IMHO it was the best and most entertaining Canned Heat I have ever seen or heard ... YMMV. Canned Heat was constantly replacing members throughout theit whole career so this is not more or less canned heat as any other version of the band.
You sir are one of the only people I've ever seen rival Junior Watson for having infinite ideas on the instrument. I'm friends with Steve Guyger and have watched a lot of your stuff together on youtube. I just saw Junior in NJ this year and he was fantastic. It was a spectacle. I'm sure you rarely make it over to the states but if you are ever in the Philly area and are around I'd love to see you do some stuff with Guyger here. You're the real deal and so is Junior! Hope all is well with you sir!
James Thornbury is the other guitarist. Saw this line-up at the WOW hall in Eugene, Ore with Henry Vestine sittin in as well. James was my friend and has passed on, and died in Australia
Check out Robbie Laws from Oregon ... he does a great tribute to this song with his own arrangement. It's on this album: www.amazon.com/Deep-Ellum-Blues-Robbie-Laws/dp/B0001A79E4
In my humble opinion, this is utterly outrageous. LOVE this version with Junior, though - and Fito's playing is ridiculous :-) th-cam.com/video/pPmIPaWdChU/w-d-xo.html
An under-rated genius of blues & swing guitar this man is....why on earth is this so ?....and listen to that groove !... & bass players who aspire to swing , check out the superb Larry Taylor !....this is awesome ....
Great great Junior Watson. one of the greatest and the most creative guitarists on earth. What the fuck nobody knows about him here in Japan… What a shame..
Is that Larry Taylor on bass? I played in a band that opened for Canned Heat in Dallas and met Junior Watson when I played at the Tulsa Blues Festival several years ago. These guys are old school solid musicians and great guys!
Yes, it's the great Larry Taylor on double bass !! He has always bent his body like this. I saw him once in concert playing guitar as well but never double bass
as a long long REH fan and admirer-i have to agree. he's not had it easy-yet his soul is SO deep sweet and all-reet. not to mention what he does to those strings. i love a musician who can combine genres and do it with ease. REH and i have some things in common-and 30+ yrs later we are still standing and defying the odds of doin what we've done these yrs. and humble? cant get more humble. shuffle on-all!
I seriously do not get the interest in this guy as an "amazing" guitarist. His style is a "Lolly Pop" cheesy. There are equally good if not better, more melodic or lyrical player or interweave jazz into their blues and who are smoother and quicker. I mean he's good just not THAT good iMho.

Junior Watson proves here why is considered one of the best blues guitarist out there...man, what chops!

Both Junior and Larry were in Kim Wilson's Tigermen in the early nineties, along with Gene Taylor from the Blasters and Rusty Zinn.
Yes, it's the great Larry Taylor on double bass !! He has always bent his body like this. I saw him once in concert playing guitar as well but never double bass
cool, that's some tasty playing

THIS is what I'm talkin' about.
Thanks! I was wondering what the title was.
This is sweet. May I add: Anybody who digs this would LOVE the incomparable Ronnie Earl's handling of nice, uptempo Blues shuffles.

Right on! There's a shortage:(
I prefer Watson on a hollow body guitar, but he's so damn good it really doesn't matter what guitar he uses!
oh yeah it is and how fuckin great they are, fuck !
Hollywood Fats was seriously worried to share the stage with only one guitarist: Junior Watson.
