    You have designed some lovely dresses, but this is my favorite, thus far! I think cutting that on the bias was just what that longline, slender dress was crying for to show it off to it’s potential.

    One of the things I like about linen and other natural fibers is that they have their own character...that is; wrinkles, slubs, little bumps in the weave and color variation in yardage that you work with or lose the beauty. I love this pretty dress. Thank you for your hard work and for sharing your knowledge. You are wonderful!

    It helps when you put a lovely figure inside the dress! So simple and elegant on you.

    This style reminds me dresses I wore in the '90's, unstructured and chill but still flattering I think.

    Great video. Very easy to follow. I haven’t seen sewing techniques like these in almost 50 years. Thank you for the reminder of how we used to produce beautiful clothing on the kitchen table. I’ve been sitting on a glorious piece of linen for almost 10 years waiting for a bias cut pattern but have waited in vain. I can’t wait to start.

    So interesting to see the comparison of the same pattern and fabric with one version cut on the bias and the other on the straight of grain. Thanks for showing that! They both look super cute.

    I made some multiple panel pinch pleated linen drapes years ago and I swear every day I went in to work on them the length changed. They had to hang just off the floor. What a headache!! That being said, I love linen and your dress is beautiful!

    I'm so glad I'm not the only one with the pockets thing!! It's such a trend so put pockets into any and every garment, but often I feel like it affects the fit a lot, dragging on skirts or gaping on trousers.

    I have just made this dress in an Italian navy check linen viscose blend. Sooo pleased with the fit as I made the d-cup and the top fitted my shoulders and bust perfectly. (I usually have a gaping armhole with a sleeveless dress). Will make this again in a plain linen. Great pattern!

    It's good to see you, Casey! I agree with you so completely about the pockets. I never put them in dresses, or even in gathered skirts where there is technically room. When I did put pockets into some lightweight rayon shorts I made, I found that my phone swinging around in there just annoys me, so not a win either 😂 Love the rust-coloured dress you were wearing towards the end of the video!

    Beautiful! And, I am so with you on no pockets. Yes, it’s an unpopular opinion, but not every garment must have pockets. If they are going to drag the garment down or ruin the silhouette, I’d rather skip the pockets. 😃❤️

      Just a quick heads-up. The bias cut must be exact and although it looks as though she worked without a ruled surface, I wouldn’t recommend the same technique if haven't done it before. Cutting on the bias essentially makes the fabric into “ stretchy” fabric. If the angle is even slightly off, the dress will never hang properly. That's where the real expertise is to be found. Measure twice, cut once. There are videos on how to lay out the fabric for a bias cut if they are not included in the pattern instructions. Good luck!

    I am never doing the burrito method again! I loved this facing construction so much. And no wonder my zipper was wavy -- I too let mine hang before installing the zipper, thinking the stay stitching would take care of everything! 🤦‍♀ Always learning...Such a beautiful pattern Casey. I'm going to have to make a long linen one -- yours looks like a vacation in dress form! 🤩

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I thought I was so clever hanging it before the zipper install, haha! Luckily I was able to salvage it by removing the zip and just sewing the center back (it still slips overhead, thank goodness!) and the waviness is gone. Thanks so much for making it!!

    I have never seen an invisible zipper installed that way- it is different from the instructions that come with the invisible zipper. But it looks like you have so much more control over the finished zipper, that I will try this next time I install one. [My granddaughters (8 and 9) think it is funny that we call them invisible zippers because you can actually see them inside the dress. I think they were expecting something akin to the emperor's new clothes.] You demonstrate and explain your techniques very well and your garments are just wonderful.

    Would it ruin the hang of the bias-cut dress if I were to apply a slim line of interfacing to both centre back seam edges, underneath the invisible zipper, to alleviate waviness along the centre back seam? I'm not used to sewing bias-cut garments and am not having much success limiting a wavy seam in this area.

    I got a donated dress recently and the zipper was such a ghastly color even my husband noticed, and he’s not that into color. It was a visible zipper.
    It got me wondering, when do designers choose a visible vs an invisible zipper? Is there some sort of rule or is it just preference?

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it is down to personal design preference, and possibly that invisible zippers can be a little more "technical" to sew well. But with that invisible zipper foot, it is really not bad at all! :)
