      Handing him over to Satan sounds like the Church have authority to hand him over to Satan but maybe it only means in their hearts. Kicking him out of the Church because he hasn't repented may make him repent but it is also good for them as a little leaven leaves the whole lump. They can judge whether he is welcome in their Church but it is not for them to judge his salvation, God will decide that.

    You said it right, that this is love to confront them and remove them until they repent and change. This man was restored to the church in 2 Corinthians 7:10-11. The huge problem in America's churches is that most are not doing this and Satan has taken over the church as Jude 1:4 using the grace of Jesus as a license for sin. We are called to live courageously and obediently. I think that if more Christians would read Revelation 21:8 and see that all cowards go to the lake of fire, they might repent themselves of cowardice and be bold truth tellers. God bless.

    Dear Brother, thank you so much for this bible reading. I stopped at versus 11-12 where it says not to be associated with a brother or sister and is ...verbally abusive. My immediate thought went to my mom. After my father passed away in 2004 my mom has been extremely suspicious and extremely verbally abusive towards me. I came close to the Lord after literally on my dad's death. I have been living with abusive mom. She re married I'm still single and live with her. She has stopped reading the bible and everyday her behavior towards me is getting highly toxic. I have been toying with the idea to live separately but she is getting old and I fear what if this is not from God because when I did that the last time I ended up in a terrible place spiritually. So my question is it a right decison if I choose to live separately.

    • @BranchTogether
      @BranchTogether  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would seem that Paul is suggesting that people who claim to be believers but continue unrepentant with egregious sin, are not saved. This is not talking about people who mess up at times and ask forgiveness. It seems that he envisions en excommunication of sorts where those people are not welcome in the inner family anymore in thier current state. Should they repent, they would be welcomed back but I believe Paul sees these people as a risk to the community of believers. If you are wrestling with implications of this challenging passage, consider discussing with your church leadership. This is a tough one for sure.

      We are saved by our faith. However, genuine faith will produce fruit. That is why Jesus said, "If you love me you'll obey my Commandments." And "You will know them by their fruit." "And "Not everyone who says Lord Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven." Its also why James said, "Faith without works is dead." If a person's faith is not producing fruit in their life then according to Scripture their faith is dead.

    I'm struggling hard at this chapter. It seems like Paul wants to cater to unbelievers and show them a respectful unconditional love to win them over to Christ, But in this chapter he wants us to condemn those who are saved but still struggle with sin... It kind of seems like he's tricking people into following Christ by His great love for them but then when they start following Christ, They have to live righteously or they will be condemned. It almost makes the unbeliever life more appealing. Who wants to enter into a church just to be judged by everyone there.
    I just don't understand this. When Jesus met with the prostitute he did nothing but show compassion, mercy and love for her. I understand pointing out somebody else's sin if it's affecting you directly. But there's been numerous times in my life where I've mentioned something to somebody else because I thought it was wrong, and they stopped talking to me. I honestly feel like giving our opinions and advice doesn't actually change people. Does anybody know anyone who's actually changed and turned away from serious sins because somebody else gave them their opinion? I think that the Holy Ghost can only change people. I think we could pray for people. I don't know I'm struggling really hard to understand this chapter because to me it doesn't show unconditional love like we're supposed to show unconditional love. Jesus Christ showed unconditional love to everybody. Even those who accused Him and put Him on the cross... And he looked up in heaven and said father forgive them for they know not what they do. I just see this weird pattern of condemning and casting stones amongst those who sinned was in the Old Testament, And then when Jesus comes he just shows love and mercy to everybody... And then in this chapter with Paul it's almost like we're back at condemning and casting stones..
    So basically if there's a believer committing adulterous acts in church are we supposed to condemn and cast them out ? But what about the group of believers that have a mental addiction and commit adultery in their mind but not in real life. Jesus said that when you lust than your mind is just as bad as doing it in person. So how do we pick those people out of the crowd and condemn them and cast them out? We cant because we can't read minds. So how is it fair to only do that to people who show they're sin outwardly. .. But the ones who can hide their sins get away with it and can still remain in the church because nobody knows. I thought that we were all set free from the law.. And even though we are set free we strive to be more Christ-like but we're always going to still sin. So I don't understand why we're still punishing people for it within the church. I mean if the guy who's struggling with sexual sins is at church, maybe it's because he's trying to better his life but he needs the support of believers.
    Nobody wants to go to church to be monitored. We go to church to try to better ourselves and understand the word
    Luke 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

      Matthew 23 contains judgment and condemnation from Jesus on religious leaders of his day. In 1 Cor. 5, Jesus by His Spirit (the Holy Ghost) is speaking through Paul. Please don't accuse Paul, instead accuse Jesus if you can. You (we) can read 1 Cor. 5 over and over in morden translations including The Message Bible and prayerfully meditate on it.
      The man in 1Cor. 5 sinned against his father. His father is the one to forgive him. But his sin is also against the holiness of the body of Christ. Jesus in 1Cor. 5 is saying: condemn the sin, judge the sin, correct the man using appropriate Christ's Body discipline - Rom. 6:1-2, Gal. 6:1-2 and James 5:19-20.
      If someone sins against you, your goal (in Christ) is to restore the relationship and save the other person from error (sin) Matthew 18:15-20.
      From Heb.12:4-12, what God is saying is that the congregation should carry out the discipline with the intent of restoring the individual to a better walk with God. 2 Cor. 2:1-11 explains the position and the video brought out the same point.
      Please let us meditate on these references. Note that the God who pronounced death sentence on such act in the Old testament has not changed but he wants us to change as we remain in him.
      Also, 'All scripture is God-breadth and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness' 2 Timothy 3:16

      You’ve took the words out my mouth !! For awhile now I’ve been feeling like grace isn’t a thing even though I know it is but because the church doesn’t allow you to mess up without making you feel as if you could possibly looose your salvation. I’m born again and hate the sins I commit !! I don’t want to but I do them still .. sometimes I’m hard on myself for falling short but I don’t feel comfortable telling the church cause of judgment… it’s such a unsettling position to be in. It makes living in the world seem more comfortable than giving your life to Christ !!!

      I hear you. Let me simplify it so you’ll understand. A man is sleeping w his living dad’s wife. Not even the Gentiles would do such a thing! Yet, a man in the house of God does? He KNOWS what he’s doing is wrong and does it anyway. He’s a hypocrite indulging in lust but professing he’s a Christian. And the church is ignoring this which is defiling the gospel!
      This news has reached Paul who’s afar off and it’s affecting him tremendously. Imagine what it’s doing to those in the church? Or worse yet, what it’s doing to those outside of church and don’t know God, yet, they see THIS which debases the gospel. Do you think this hurts the Message? Of course, it does.
      Paul is saying that since this guy is CHOOSING the world (to be separate from God) then send him to it, to satan (the world) so that he’ll learn what it’s like to not have God. Hopefully he’ll get the revelation and be delivered back unto God. That’s ALL Love intended.
      The church needs to address this willful disobedient issue or it will taint their ministry and many will fall away. Our actions affect those around us. For the gospel’s sake and other’s salvation we cannot be afraid to speak the truth. The truth will set them free if they will to.
      It is also better to please God than men. Don’t worry about rejection. You planted a seed of truth in LOVE and God will send someone to water it. You may have lost a friend but you have saved a life. Our sacrifice is for their gain, just like Jesus did for us, right? Peace I send to you. God bless!

      Jesus also told everyone, including the woman at the well to go and son no more. You’re looking for a God in your own image. Your sins are forgiven. That’s not a carte Blanche to continue sinning because “I’m trying”. He also said be holy because I’m holy. This easy believeism if the American church is trash. Sorry if you don’t want to be monitored. It’s biblical.

    Technically we dont really know if it was with his step mother or *mother* . Look at what it says in verse 1.
    1 Corinthians 5:1 (KJV) It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.
    .....that looks like Paul could be talking about incest here. ...maybe.

    • @saltandlight316
      @saltandlight316 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it was incest he would just say the guy was sleeping with his mother. Because it says his father's wife that seems to indicate it was a step-mom. People don't call my mom my father's wife they call her my mom.

      @nunyadontyaknow 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@saltandlight316 not really. Son's sleeping with stepmothers is hardly new. Whether today.....or yesteryear. The important part of the story here is.....why did Paul still consider the son to be saved? Not a backsliding reprobate, but a child of God. I mean, if there is such thing as a backslider then sleeping with your stepmother would certainly put the son in the category of someone who has chosen his own path.....right? Right.
      But that's not what happens.....
      The son is saved, sealed, and sanctified until the day of redemption....why?
      Because he believed the gospel and is forever saved.
      PRAISE GOD HALLELUJA!!!!!

      Not at all! He is talking about those within the church who say they know God but live their lives as if they don’t. Being a hypocrite. Doesn’t our lives affect those around us? I mean really, Paul heard of this from afar off and it’s affecting him. Imagine what it’s doing to those IN the church…let alone those who are on the outside of church seeing this hypocrisy continue unchecked! Doesn’t this affect the gospel and cause people to turn away from God?
      If you read the whole chapter Paul clearly distinguishes those who are in the church and KNOWS God compared to those in the world who don’t. They get a separate judgment from God because they don’t know any better but WE get a different one because we KNOW the Truth of how sin will separate us from God, eternally.
      Paul basically is saying that this guy who is sleeping with his stepmother (his father is not even dead, yet) knows what he’s doing is wrong but does it anyway. Give him to satan (the world) since that’s what he’s choosing, so that he will hopefully get the revelation of his sin and be delivered back to God.
      It’s all in love.
      The thing is, the church sees this and chooses to ignore it. There’s a hypocrisy in that, too. Paul’s addressing it before it contaminates the people & the gospel which will cause some to fall away.

    There is a difference when a believer accidentally sins here and there, they hate it and they want to change it. In other words, they want to repent and change because we pursue Jesus and his holiness.
    It is a very different heart issue when someone lives a sinful lifestyle, without repentance or wondering what Jesus thinks about that sinful lifestyle. Jesus told the woman that committed adultery that she is forgiven AND told her to sin no more. He told her to REPENT. I believe this man Paul is talking about here was arrogant and maybe even proud of his sinful lifestyle. Did he even care about what Jesus thinks of him? We are saved by grace. But this saving grace is not a license to live a sinful lifestyle like sexual immortality in this case.

It's a weakness, and in the weakness we can call on him. We should really just love them just the way they are. For Jesus came to heal the sick and it's not just physical sickness, But everything we are. Loving each other covers every sin it's the greatest gift of them all. Just know Jesus came for the outsider he love them just as much just repent 7*70. It's hard to stop a habit that you have been doing for so long. Just know call on Jesus and he will help be you have to mean it.
