Thank you! Love your beagle! I have 2! Just got this kiln off FB marketplace and just had 220 outlet installed. Your video is giving me the confidence to try it out!❤
I got an. Older Duncan...this helped. Scared to hit that first test
Just found your channel! Love the pottery.
Great video just got an old Duncan this will help a ton!
Hey! I just got an old Duncan too, first firing today and it'd be great to hear how yours has been! Hard to find much on youtube.
Thank you. I just got one of these kilns. I have yet to have the wiring set up and do test runs. I know nothing about it.
What thing is sticking in the top hole? I bought an older Duncan kiln and such thing didn’t come with it!
It's some sort of plug. I tried to look around for it online but I wasn't able to find anything. It's defiantly a different shape and material from the peep hole plugs. It seems like a vent hole because the plug is a slightly loose fit and it's a small hole. I bet that missing the plug doesn't really affect firing.
@@arkansaspotter7250 alright 👍🏼thanks for answering !
Very helpful troubleshooting for someone who has no idea on this stuff. I’m looking at buying the same unit as you have here. They want $300. They said they bought it 3 years ago (but can’t remember where they bought it) and haven’t used it the 3 years they have had it due to no 220 outlet. Would you recommend this is a good deal? It has 2 shelves and some feet, but missing the top peep hole. Thanks again!
Yeah, that sounds like a really good deal. I think I got this one for around $200-$250. New kilns cost close to $2500 at the cheap end. Even if you have to replace some elements in the kiln I think it will be cheaper than buying new. You should also be able to buy a replacement peep hole plug pretty easily.
Just got a Duncan DK820-2 and looking forward to trying it; Yes, this helped A LOT - Thanks for the tutorial! Did the timer need to be replaced after all, or was the knob just stuck or something? Thanks! Best!
The timer still doesn't work. But it's just a back up, to turn the kiln off if the kiln sitter fails. I just make sure to stay nearby and check that the kiln sitter turned the kiln off, before I leave it to cool down.
Did you figure out the issue at the end? ❤
It would help to know standard temperature for greenware and for glaze fire.
There are some standard temperatures, but it really depends on what clay you use and the glazes you use. If you buy commercial glazes they will recommend a bisque temperature that works best with their glaze and will say what temperature the glaze matures at. And you want to buy a clay that matures at the same temperature or higher than your glaze. Hope that makes sense and helps.
