Omg I missed it - I have epilepsy so I can’t be around a lot of people … had I know this I would have had my son buy for me … oh well … maybe another time . Can anyone tell Me when they go on sale again??
Ive had the GE for the last several years. To really clean it you have to take it apart. There is a tank inside that gets all slimy. The hoses also. Did love the machine but just bought the Frigidaire because its $200 from costco. The GE finally went Kaputt
I’ll stick to my Frigidaire clear ice maker. Keeps drinks super cold for hours without watering it down. I can grind Pepsi 30 minutes later and still tastes like it came out of the bottle
Thank you so much it’s December 27, 2023 two days after Christmas. I’m just now waiting to plug My Frigidaire EFIC288 icemaker in can’t wait to taste my ice . I’ve been wanting one of these forever. Actually I wanted the GE opal but we have to get what we could afford so we’re hoping this ice machine does the job, thank you very for a very nice review. I will come back and let you know how my ice turned out.🎄💙👋🏻12-27-23
GE Profile 2.0, luckily we bought ours at Best Buy. It broke just before the manufacturer warranty expired (6 months). BB gave us an option to get a new one or a full refund. They don’t bother to fix it and if you read up on GE website, they don’t sell parts for it. It’s considered a “disposable” unit. That meaning if it breaks, it’s trash!! There’s a common problem on the Opal 2.0 forum. It’s 100% true. Great ice!! Best to use Distilled Water!! Even filter water will leave deposits and you’ll have to do a deeper cleaning. Watch you tube videos about the deposit buildup 🤢 We had no buildup with distilled water. Cheap at Walmart, we bought the ones in the Baby section. $a buck something. 👍🏽👍🏽 Great ice but not very reliable. It’s a gamble on reliability
I've bought the Opal twice. Difficult to clean, loud, and doesn't last that long--2d one I bought didn't last 4 years. Plus it has a refrigerant that some cities prohibit from the sanitation system. Not to mention it's so friggin' complicated to clean.
It's nice seeing other brands making these nugget ice makers, but I still love my Profile. I got it back in July 2020 and the main unit is still going strong. The side tank, unfortunately stopped supplying water to the main unit recently.
@@NateBuildingBricks the machine works without the side tank. The only downside is more frequent refilling the main water tank. But I managed to fix the side tank issue by blowing air into the hose ( after removing the water of course).
The thing that makes Fridgadaire less appealing for me is I got the one a step down from this one and it broke 4 months in so I tried going through the extended warranty I bought but they said it fell into the manufacturer warranty so I contacted them. First I had to find the contact info and sadly it's not even fridgadaire. Anyway I found the website and filled out the information. They then wanted a dozen pics of the item and a video of what was wrong. So I did that. They then contacted me and I was told I had about 7 days to ship it on my own dime to California from Georgia so they can evaluate it and then they would decide what to do about my icemaker. My husband said nope we'll buy a different one. Oh and by time I heard from them initially it had been 2 months.
How about mold and other bacteria/ecoli? Do these have filters in them since the water just sits in the reservoir? And when the ice melts it just recirculates. Help me ease my mind i want to buy one.
The GE 2.0 has an app for setting ice making schedules as well as supporting Alexa and Google Assistant so you can control it with your voice. When I'm out for a run with 20 mins remaining, I tell my Galaxy Watch 6, "Hey Google, turn on opal" and fresh ice is ready when I get home.
Yep. Mine is 17 months old. Used only distilled water for ice. Tap water for sterilizing with bleach. Ice machine descaler, even though no scale with distilled water. Now the unit makes horrible squealing when running. Not very serviceable, and replacement parts non existent. I’m past ge warranty, but may return it / replace it under Best Buy extended warranty. These are poorly designed. Great when they work, but not durable.
I went through 3 Opals, Gen 1 as well. It worked fine for a while but would start churning out black bits of garbage into the ice and bin. I took the cover off and found it rife with mold. GE tried to tell me it wasn’t mold but the internal reservoir was right over the compressor along all the heat. So that was complete BS. They gave me another and it waited till the warranty was up to start doing the same. During this time, I was fastidious about doing the proper sanitation and cleaning methods. GE was kind enough to work with me and get me a third machine, even though it was out of warranty. I never opened it but immediately sold it and got whatever money I could back out of it. I have heard that their second generation moved the reservoir to a different spot so it’s not right over the compressor. I hope that works. I’m interested in long-term review of the Frigidaire to see if it becomes a problem as well.
This really is super helpful. Great video!
Walmart had the Profile 2 including side tank for $349 - Black Friday.
Omg I missed it - I have epilepsy so I can’t be around a lot of people … had I know this I would have had my son buy for me … oh well … maybe another time .
Can anyone tell
Me when they go on sale again??
Costco has the Frigidaire for $199 right now. GE was $699 at Best Buy so the GE is .>3X the price of the Frigidaire.

Just bought a Frigidaire at Costco 2 days ago, on sale, $30 off, down to $169!
Thanks for the detailed comparison. 👍

I loved my frigidaire until it started leaking after 2 months. Just gotba GE Opal 1.0. Hoping this one is better.

I saw a video where the ge reservoir can be used on either side.

Does it still work with the side tank not working?

Ill wait for opal 3.0...assuming they ever make one...
I just got the GE for $449 at HD after 10% off coupon

If money was no option, which would you choose?
I'd never touch Frigidaire products!
Why?
How long does the ice stay frozen in the tray?
Depends how warm the ambient temperature is..
The Frigidaire is on sale now for $220. I'm debating on what to get.
it does a good job
Don't get the GE. It's junk. I'm on my 2nd one under warranty

*which ice is closest to chick-fil-A ice*
Yes
Well hell the ge machine keeps tearing up we are on our second one and our last one. Now it's. Making a clicking noise.
Yep. The Opal is a nice idea, but its manufacture is really sucky.
Great tutorial
Thank you!
GE got prop 65 warning, I wonder if Frigidaire has the same.
It's the refrigerant. NYC prohibits it from the sanitation system.
Costco has a Fridgidare for $200.
I saw 250 .. is that not true
@@thartsoe1 mine $200 also
The Frigidaire is now $250 at Walmart
Frigidaire is horrid, my machine broke in under 2 months and many others have similar problems. Support is also awful.
Home Depot has frigidaire for 169
GE is horrible quality machine. Sent mine back 3 times.
Did you regularly clean it? Was it because of the noises? Or did it just not work?
@@nicolumens3311 Cleaned every weekend. The noise grew overtime on each machine. The last one just quit producing ice.

I have the original Opal from first build (before they sold to GE) and it’s still running strong.
@@lauraharrington5195 Same with me.
GE is a terrible product and company!
My GE opal 2.0 done died twice. IF i return it would be my 3rd one smh
Did you have to pay for the losses ???12/21/23
I'm on my second one under warranty. I'm thinking the GE is junk
What went wrong?
