  • The journey to becoming a haematologist is different for everyone. In this seminar, we have two speakers, coming in to talk about their pathway before becoming a haematologist and what kind of work they do now.
Our first speaker is Dr Jamie Kuzich, a final year haematology advanced trainee. He completed his basic physician training at Royal Perth and Fiona Stanley Hospitals in Western Australia, before moving to Melbourne for haematology training. He spent three years at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and the Royal Melbourne Hospital in both clinical and laboratory roles and is now based at the Austin Hospital in Heidelberg, Melbourne.
Our second speaker is Professor Mark Dawson. He is a consultant haematologist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and heads the Translational Haematology program which aims to understand the molecular basis of disease in order to develop novel therapies for cancer. He is the group leader of his laboratory studying Cancer Epigenetics.
The ASSH is a professional society with a mission to connect, educate, and inspire university students across Australia and New Zealand who are interested in blood disorders. Every year, we run a series of high-quality educational seminars covering high-yield topics in haematology, with the aim of enhancing students' understanding of basic principles in haematology, elucidate the pathway to becoming a haematologist, and raise awareness of the latest research in the field of haematology.
