The Sony FX30- Sony’s first entry level budget cinema camera came out almost a year ago and provided a new massive stepping stone for beginning film makers. This video lists everything I've added to the FX30 since the day I bought it along with my experiences using this camera in the great Digital Outdoors.

The FX30 is definitely one of the best value cameras one can buy today. Nice low profile setup. Didnt think of adding the phone with that app for a setup. 👌🏽
I’m still enjoying my Sony FX30. The Sony 16 to 55mm F2.8 G lens is on it the most. I find it the most versatile for what I do (vlogging, etc.). Great video, thanks for sharing your experience.
Love my FX 30- and the Monitor+ app is a fantastic way to inexpensively add on an external monitor- and you always have your phone with you! Honestly the FX30 monitor is excellent (& bright) so I usually just use that. I did add an external V Mount battery with the compact SmallRig V Mount rig- it not only adds the power but extra weight and size which helps a lot with hand-held shots.

*I love My FX30 and b4 I bought the FX30 I sold My a6400 and kept my Lens the Sigma 16mm f1.4 and then Bought the Sony 11mm f1.8 and then some Sony Tough Cards and a Tiffen ND Filter with a step up Ring. I also have a Smallrig Cage with Smallrig Top Handle, But I bought this because I wanted more video then photo capabilities still learning LOG shooting but Find that S-Log 3 works amazing but with Firmware 2.0 The New formats aren't supported by adobe yet, that being XAVCS-HS so I just shoot in the normal XAVCS and it works normal. Nice Review I've only had mine for 3 months*
I love the FX30/FX3 top handle, but I did upgrade it with the extension.

Id like to know where you heard the audio top handle isnt good...I work in pro audio and that thing sounds insanely clean and is super easy to use. I dont use it all the time especially if im using Lav Mics, but if im putting on the shotgun mic, its my go-to
I was going strictly off of reviews on youtube and couldn't find many positive things people had to say about it. It's good to hear from someone who works in pro audio though, thanks. Maybe people just didn't think it was worth the extra $400 at the time of release.

The ZV E1 has the full frame sensor so it's gonna be better in low light but it's more geared towards vlogging. Both great cameras!

Time code???
In the video menu, there's a whole screen of time code settings. I don't have that option with my audio recorder that I use, so this just stays off for now.
Time code is a real sleeper with the “run and gun” VLOGGER’s at the moment. The recent introduction of 32 bit-floating recorders with Bluetooth (TASCAM DR-10R Pro) and Bluetooth sourced Time Code Masters (Bluetooth Ultra Synch) are set to bring this black art to the masses in a cable free deployment. At the moment other solutions require YAC (yet another cable) and a lot of head scratching. Apps for the iPhone only require a setting to select the Blue Ultra Sync Time Code source. So with this tech all a Vlogger needs is a recorder for each audio source, a Blue Ultra Sync and their iPhone. No wires, external camera boom mics etc. simple as it gets. With time code on all of the video and audio files all of the most common editing software makes it a one click process to perfectly align all media. That’s with an iPhone (or two) where are the cameras that do this? Looks like I am stuck with an iPhone for now. Audio is king, video is nice - not going to part with $2K+ for a camera that doesn’t get the job done

From what I can tell the Tentacle device requires a cable to “Jam” time code to most cameras (I think the Sony FX3 had a firmware update for this). The best option is for time code to sync wirelessly (Bluetooth) to everything. Imagine the whole group being able to get the same time code reference to their iPhones and each of the subjects to record their audio from a miniature lav Mike that has the same time code. No dropouts from wireless mics and poor audio from camera mounted mini boom mics. At the end of the session collect all of the media files, bring them into the editing software of choice, click sync all - then edit. This is a reality now with the Blue Ultra Sync, TASCAM DR-10L Pro and iPhones. This capability just needs to be adopted as a standard by field audio recorders and cameras so it is a “cable free deployment” - for run and gun vlogging cables are a deal breaker.
