Joan is a sweetheart. My friend ran into her one Halloween at her Chicago house during trick-or-treat and was so nice and talked to her for 5 minutes. I met John Cusack twice in the Malibu Inn bar. Nicest guy who talks to people. He heard my Chicago accent and asked me how things were back in the Windy City. My gf and I had gotten a room at the Inn and was pulling me to go check in. When she left to check us in, John said "Thanks for the update, but never keep a lady waiting."! lol. When I was there with another gf 6 years later, he was there again at the Malibu and he remembered me! But he didnt out me about being with someone different. It didnt matter, but he assumed it might cause a problem and didnt say anything. Straight up great guy.
Jack Black hams it up mercilessly in a role that was absolutely made for him. Right from the very start when he tries to jump into the non- existent mosh pit you know this is going to be great. Being a musician myself, and having been around guys like this even makes it more fun. Some great bits in this film especially when he can't spell his name on the blackboard, and he says to the kids about Led Zeppelin 'don't tell me you guys never got the Led out'. Sarah Silverman is great as the the nagging girlfriend, and real satisfying ending. Just a great fun film.
Caitlin Hale who played singer Marta and Angelo Massagli who played security guard Frankie have been together since at least 2018. She left the entertainment business to pursue a career in medicine, and is now a "OB-GYN sonographer." He played the role of Bobby Jr. in The Sopranos until 2007 then went to law school and became an attorney. They frequently post pictures together on Instagram.
Great reaction. This is easily my favorite Jack Black movie. Is it formulaic? Yes, absolutely. But it uses that formula magnificently, and the kids all give such incredible performances that the movie just radiates charm and joy.
The perfect example of a masterpiece of a movie that many wouldn’t think of putting into that category, but it truly is a perfect film. Flawless writing and directing, wonderful performances, and a role that was meant for no one else but Jack Black
Some of these parents remind me of my father. I was homeschooled for the first 15 years of my life and when I finally was allowed to go to real school, I got excited about making friends. He shut that down, telling me I’d never remember those kids anyway and that wouldn’t have time for them because I’d be at the kitchen table after school studying. I’ve never wished ill on anyone, except parents like that. I was forced to take classical piano when I really wanted to learn guitar and play in a band. As you would expect, religion was behind it all.
I had such a crush on Jack Black in this movie. I was stupid enough to tell my friend and I haven't heard the end of it yet, it's been 20 years. He's charming damn it!

This film was turned into a musical which ran on Broadway and London's West End from 2015 to 2021. Unfortunately, the kid that played the drums (Kevin Clark) passed away in 2021. But yes, he was a great drummer in this movie.
